They ruined all of the real tracks in Shift by Need For Speeding them up with stupid hoardings, boards, stuff that wasn't there in real life. I don't want to see a circus tent in Brands Hatch or a Ferris Wheel at Spa.

Yes, shift had the Nurburgring.

For me the most enjoyable part of shift was the Porsche GT3RS at the Ring.... felt lovely :)

Yeh the GT3RS was lovely wasnt it...! Shift has the best sounds ive heard in a driving game too!

Looks like it'll be a fun game for my kids.

It's EA, they spend more time on special FX and "wow" factor than the actual driving physics or anything else.

I played the first Shift, only the demo, for about 5 minutes. My impressions were "the sound is amazing and everything else is just fluff".

It was... it actually felt like a real, modern 911 to drive, it just needed slightly less grip to make it perfect.

GT5 physics don't really get the feel of driving a 911 right... they all suffer from stupid amounts of turn-in and lift-off oversteer. Of course a 911 will show these characteristics, but not at the level experienced in GT5.

In addition, GT5 911's miss that planted feel you get when you've got your trail braking spot on (the front being properly nailed to the turn on the brakes), and you get back on the gas... in a real 911 the feeling is of almost endless grip at both ends... in GT5 you tend to get a lot of front end wash.

In time I'll have to try and tune the RGT to feel a bit more like the real thing.

Huh? There are no 911s in GT5. There are some RUFs, but they're not the same are they? They're tuned, so are going to feel differently.

The "911s" in GT5 are all from RUF, which are known to be brutal cars (especially the old ones like the Yellowbird). You can't really compare a RUF with a normal Porsche.

Are they gonna fix the 'floatie' physics?
Also will it actually be possible to go in a straight line without going out of control?
God Shift sucks

Meh, the RGT is not a mile away from a 996 GT3 mk1... similar power/weight etc, and there's only so much you can do with a 996 to make it better.

I know, especially with a controller the physics were absolutely terrible, impossible to get on with. The physics in GRID were better. They were still arcadey, but at least they were consistent and easy to get on with. Shift was just a mess.

Try being a better driver :sly:

GRID was a top driving game too! i'll look forward to their next installment! If they do one

Dude! Do it, and make a post about your experiments and different settings in the Tuning section. I'd be all over it. I'm having a blast with the RUFs, but I do need tuning advice.

As for Shi...ft II.... maybe. ;) We'll see if it makes most of the serious racers here happy. But I have a feeling that Ferrari Challenge will still be better, and it gave me headaches after a while.

I really liked shift, good graphics, fantastic engine/race sounds, liked being able to get full value back for the cars you bought but even half value or more would still be good. The cockpits were spot on and I actually loved the shaky camera and partial blurring at high speeds. The major problem with shift was the physics..."learn to drive" all you want, the physics sucked. Online racing quickly became a joke because the slightest nudge meant you were off the track with no chance of catching up unless they made a mistake. Also cars in the "drift mode" felt completely different than they did in grip mode... Cars slid easily but were way too twitchy in drift mode and in grip mode they almost refused to let go and when they did it was near impossible to do anything with them(at least for me).

With them adding more cars and tracks it could be a great game but they have to fix their physics engine. Then it might be able to pull me away from GT5

Cool video.

I still believe that Shift 1 was a fundamentally good game that was ruined by rushing it out the door. The bugs, the dumbed down physics (which had been reported to be very realistic earlier in development), all sorts of things combined to not make it that fun to play. It had moments of brilliance (the aforementioned Porsche at the Ring), but for the most part it was a broken game.

If Shift 2 is a fixed Shift 1, it will be awesome. Given that a lot of the fixes exist already as mods for the PC version, it's not even like the dev team has had that much work to do. Squish all the bugs, take features from the best mods for PC Shift 1, add some content and Autolog, automatic amazing game.

It's theirs to screw up. It SHOULD be a great game.
