Now that you boyz got me hooked on online racing & Shift I was wondering when GT5 comes out is everybody going to start letting their Shift game start collecting dust? I've owned every GT game but GT4 but this online racing has difenitly has me obsesssed. Do I Need to buy GT5 where I can still race my online buddies? Feedback please...

Well, I'm somewhat on the fence about GT5. I'm new the GT series, being that I have never played any of them. In fact shift is my first real racing game. My back ground is in online FPS on the pc for the about the last ten years. I bought the ps3, modern warfare 2, and shift back in Nov. been racing every since. If GT5 is as good as shift is for me right now, then I buy it. If it's better then shift, then I will love it.

You have much to learn in the racing game world, grasshopper.

Much to learn. :P

When this topic came up the other night (when we were supposed to be racing  ), I almost posted this same question.

I think it's safe to say most of us will go out and buy GT5 when it's released. If even half of the pre-release rumors are true it's going to be a phenomenon. I imagine half the country's bandwidth will be taken up with it!

I think it's also safe to say that it's going to be superior to Shift in every technical way that you can think of. Our wheels will probably be better supported as well so it will likely feel better.

I wonder if it will be as FUN though.

Speaking for myself, I enjoy Shift as much as I do, because of the people I interact with on this forum and online. Without this group of people I'm quite sure I'd have gotten tired of the demolition derby on the public servers and reluctantly put the game on the shelf.

I'm usually terrible at predictions, so I'll probably be wrong, but when GT5 is actually released I think a majority of people here will buy it, myself included. If GT5 is fun and rewarding then I hope this same group of people will continue to seek each other out online and even on the other forum.

If GT5 prooves to be as frustrating and unintuitive as GT5p was for me, then after a month of frustration, I'll be the first to dust the cobwebs off the Shift case and blast around the Nordschliefe in my Audi R8, and of course I'll be sending out invites. :)

How's the racing been. I haven't raced online in about a month. True be told whenever GT5 comes out I will definitely buy it and race online.

I just purchased a PS3 about a month ago &
picked up NFS Shift last Sunday and am having a blast , I dont go on line as I feel like I am not really good enough to go against you guys here . Maybe I will eventually go on-line and see if I am good enough competition for anyone , or an easy mark ........ ha ha
Maybe I need to try it out and see how I do .

I also bought GT5p and was so disappointed I am in no hurry to buy GT5 when it comes out . Just a big rehash of GT4 IMO .

And the drifting area is not for me at all , cant find the right speed , plus the cars feel like the pivot point is in the center ( like a pencil in the center and the car spins on this axis ) , plus the cars feel way to light , no weight feeling in the wheel ( or resistance ) , & the tires feel like I am driving on greased SNOT instead of blacktop !

Other then that the FUN I'm a havin'

How about you add me? I get shift in a few days. I'm a total noob myself. This'll be my first NFS since the first one I think...we'll race online and see who's the greatest loser.

That post was from october 2007...so manny water under the bridge since then...but i'm sure it will be great when it comes out...:nervous:

LOL....I will never play NFS shift ever again when GT5 comes out.I prettymuch only play it online because of the terrible slow down in single player mode.Yea NFS is a fun game but I have limited time to play (as you guys have maybe notice) so if I gotta pick its GT5 hands down.

well i would like to think that when i get my copy of GT5 i would still be racing with the same guys as i did in shift, i enjoy racing with all the guys on here, i mostly race online with stevo manny and when i am feeling in the nurburg mood dorko's and i hope you guys will be racing with me in GT5 i dint think playing shift would be the same with out this amazing site of people and i dont think GT5 will be all that good without them either.

one way or another i am not going any were and and as long as you guys are willing to race along side me it would be my honor to race along side you.

i race my track car on track days in real life (when i have the money that is) and its the exact same as it is on here, we all meet up on the fiestaturbo website forum and organise a track day then we compete for the fastest lap time so now i can do it in real life and then come home and do it again on my ps3 t could not be any sweeter for me

I couldn't have said it better. My sentiments exactly.

I envy you for that, more than you can believe. The couple times I've had the M3 out to the track were, thrilling, terrifying and completely wonderful. To be able to run Donington would be a dream. But as I'm sure you know it gets very expensive. The racing tires alone for the M3 cost $1200 and as you know racing tires don't last very long. Street tires get ruined at the track (as I found out).

its ok really for me as my car is a track car only, it used to be a road and track car but the price to run it was way to high.

but even as it is now it costs a lot to do i only ever get about 3 or 4 track days out of the OMP disks and brake pads
3 track days out of the tires if i am lucky.
1 track day out of the oil IE engine oil and gear box etc etc.
and then you have to fix any damage from mistakes.

but the biggest killer for any track enthusiast is the quest for more performance, its like a bug 1 or 2 track days and you already find you have reached the capabilities of the standard gear so then come a hole new worry for you bank balance.

so far to develop my fiesta its took about £3,000 to 4,000 but that includes the 2 litre engine from a 1.6, fully adjustable coilovers, uprated brake pads disks and calipers and braided lines, 4 paddle clutch, uprated tires and semi bolt in roll cage, and there is so much more.

but you are a braver man than me as if i crash mine on track its only going to cost me £300 for a new shell, somhow i think it would be a lot more expensive to replace that BMW

Trust me I didn't get closer than 95% of it's limits, and maybe not that close. Hell, even the Oil for this thing is $11 per Liter. It takes 6 Liters to fill it. No I didn't take many chances. :)

I didn't play shift online since the release of the muscle car pack. I don't think I'll ever play this game again and back in december there were not a lot a people online. I wonder how dead it is now.

Do you realize this is about the tenth time you've posted here to tell us you didn't like Shift?

I think we get the point.
