Hey. I need help finding a pair of casual shoes, I've attempted to find some but I just can't find the right ones.

Can any of you help me find some interview worthy or date worthy shoes ?

Thanks in advance ! đź‘Ť

What kind of interview are you supposed to do, because you can't wear casual shoes to professional interviews.

Also how much are you willing to spend?

I'm looking for some all round casual shoes, I hate walking around in my running shoes all day. And what I meant by interview/date worthy is a pair of shoes that aren't too dressy but yet I can wear to an interview and just wear them as a pair of normal shoes.

My price is around $60-$100

Thanks !

This is a pretty good website, I've used it before and it's very simple. I already put in your price range on the linked page. You're in the US so there would be no problem with getting stuff online. đź‘Ť

Deck shoes are always a good call. They're comfy and look smart/ casual depending on the colour.

Something like this maybe?

Haha, a friend of mine said that if I purchase some Sperry's; he'll take them off of me when I'm drunk and beat me with them.

How about plain old loafers? I used to rock them when I worked in the city, made me feel cool and sophisticated! In fact, I loved them so much I still have the pair I bought when I was 16, and that was a looooooooog time ago.

If you do get some like these be sure to pay a bit extra for leather soles, rubber is just such a poor look/ feel.

Clown shoes.

Nah, I'm just kidding. I don't know the name of the shoes, but I prefer black colored shoes with small laces. It's good enough for pretty much everything.

I wouldn't hire you if you walked into my office wearing canvas sneakers.

For interviews, you need a lace-up leather oxford or blucher shoe.

This is pretty much the shoes that I've been using for 1.5 years look like(Nike Dunk Low 6.0) and the soles are just finally starting to rub out the ridges(though the picture shows a different model without the zig-zag ridges). Everything else on the sole looks good. Best part is that it works with business causal and for regular casual use. The shoes that Shem showed makes me think full out business look or casual with a polo shirt.

I'm still trying to find out what it's called. These are what I'm trying to talk about:

I wholeheartedly agree. Why is everyone suggesting tennis shoes?

A few suggestions:

  • Spend the extra and get leather. Synthetic won't let your feet breathe and you'll have swamp foot every night.
  • Rubber soles provide immensely better traction on wet/slick surfaces than leather soles. Unless you're planning on doing a lot of dancing.
  • While looks are plenty important, how they feel is more so. Just because they're dress shoes doesn't mean they have to be uncomfortable.
As I'd never buy a pair of dress shoes online only to find they run large/small/narrow/wide, etc, looking quickly at Kohl's website, personally (depending on fit) I'd go with something like this. đź‘Ť

I think it's because that the OP said, "casual" and sneakers/tennis shoes fit that perfectly.

Actually, they don't fit at all. Hipster != casual. You can wear vans if you want to look like a slob. Just don't expect the interview or the date to go very well.

As Omnis pointed out, he also said interview shoes. Unless you're interviewing at McDonalds or for a landscaper, there's no way I'd wear less than the shoes I posted. To me "dress shoes" are shoes like wingtips while the ones I posted are more dress-casual and tennis shoes are for casual Fridays and mowing the lawn.

Clearly phillkillv2 needs to refine for us exactly what he's looking for.

I personally think it's a bit confusing when someone says that they want casual shoes that would be fitting for an interview or date. Casual usually refers to everyday clothing.

Still, those Oxfords look like the best option.

Well, you might want to consider these Puma Sky II shoes. They can be used for “finer events”, but also as a “normal shoe”.

To be fair, I went to my last interview in a pair of Air Max and I've just signed my third year contract today.

That's the thing, I can understand wearing Vans canvas shoes to a date (definitely not a first date), depending on where you're going and what kind of person you're dating. Really, what he wants calls for two pairs of shoes. In your situation, I'd get a pair of black oxfords for the interview, and a pair of black loafers like Shem posted for the date. Unless you're going to a restaurant with a strict dress code, oxfords are probably overkill for a date (although I doubt it would work against you).

Also, just because a lot of mid 30's/middle aged men wear sneakers every day as regular daily shoes doesn't make it right. Wearing sneakers around looks pretty bad (why do so many 30-somethings wear jeans, a polo, and colourful sneakers?), and going into a job interview with them on is a really horrible idea. I don't necessarily think you need to be wearing leather loafers at minimum for anything that isn't athletic/boating, but if you're going to wear canvas/boat/skate shoes, they have to be tasteful and more conservative. Also, if you're wearing anything more formal than a pair of jeans (i.e. trousers/slacks/"dress pants"), you pretty much have to default to some kind of leather shoe. Other types of shoes can work, but not in the date/job interview context.

Tl;dr: Buy a pair of black leather oxfords and be done with it. You should probably buy a pair of black leather loafers too. And for God's sake don't buy something like those Vans or Nike shoes (or those Pumas that Dean J posted) and expect a job interview at anywhere better than McDonalds to go well.

You could probably-- maybe-- get away with a pair of nice-looking chukka boots in an interview. Leather soles of course (get something goodyear-welted and they'll last you forever).

And in your personal, every-day life there is no bad time to wear chukka boots. Only problem is they'll likely be out of your price range.

I was going to put something in there about loafers/oxfords not quite being the only option, but black leather oxfords are pretty idiot proof when it comes to job interviews.

And yeah, I've been looking at a pair of chukka boots for over the winter. Ever since I graduated high school I'm trying to start dressing better. Enough with the black and lime green DC's (although I still have them around as beater/yard work shoes). Problem is that university nonsense doesn't leave much money left over for that.

Ah, you beat me before I could edit my post. Was going to say no vibram soles unless there's ice on the ground.

I think there are some more affordable options. I'm restricted to meh Dunham shoes as far as casual stuff goes, but that's because of size not price. Florsheim's Doon looks pretty neat. If they're built anything like my Hugos, I'd recommend them. They make a Doon Oxford too. Right at the top of his budget.
