Shopping Sprees

Well I just finished about 2 enduros, winning a shiny new Formula Gran Turismo, which I used to win a Nissan R92CP. But I'd raced the shiny new F1 car so much over the past couple days that it REALLY needs oil, but I couldn't give it an oil change. The GT Auto wouldn't even let me get in. I couldn't change tires either, and harder tires are what I needed most. And before I found out about the oil/tire issue I figured, the F1 car is considered Japanese in the game, and I want to win the Japan GT Championship and the rest of the enduros, so why need it? Then after beating the JGTC the oild/tire issue came up and I thought well huh. Then I looked at their resale value and saw that the value of the F1 car had actually decreased, probably because of the bad oil. (Another question for you guys, but not the main point. Feel free to answer.) But hey, it was still 1,499,999 credits, and the Nissan was 749-something credits. So, call me crazy, insane, stupid, or whatever you want to, but I SOLD THE F1 CAR AND THE R92CP!!! Even my brother thought I was crazy. But there happens to be a method to my madness. Now with 2 million plus credits on tap, I visited new and used car dealerships for an hour and a half buying cars I didn't have for arcade mode. Then when I couldn't buy any more cars, I sold all the cars I bought and hey, I had 380-something credits again. I kept funneling my money like this until I could buy no longer. And I was satisfied. This is probably the largest "shopping spree" I've ever done, but still one of many. Since I usually use arcade mode and seeing 100-plus more cars available brings a big grin to my face, these "shopping sprees" are useful to me. Which brings us to my question for you: Do you use shopping sprees as well? Even if you don't do it quite the same way as I do, just going out and buying other cars you don't need for the sole purpose of having them in arcade mode is enough. Is anyone as crazy as me to sell an F1 car to buy cars for ARCADE MODE??? Post now!

:-)

I've never done that, nor have I ever thought of it, But I myself don't ever go into arcade mode, I always just do simulation.

But no, I'm not crazy enough to sell my FGT, I might do it if I had multiples, but my one and only, not a chance in the world.

I can't relate to you because I never use Arcade mode but sounds like you had some fun. I believe the Formula GT does not require oil changes and never looses horsepower. As for the tyres, when racing with the FGT against non formula 1 cars I found that my lead was astronomical when the time came for a pit stop for the medium tyres that my opponents never come close to lapping me.

Well, I don't think you're crazy. I haven't gotten into GT4 enough to actually own an F1, but in GT3, I never used them (except for in the official F1 races at the end of the Pro League). I think I kept a couple F1 cars in GT3 as trophies, but I sold the rest!

I've never gone on a shopping spree for arcade mode, but (in GT2) I went on plenty of shopping sprees in sim mode after selling off yet another Speed 12, or Tom's Supra, or Calsonic Skyline...yeah, it's a good feeling to enter the used car lot, knowing you can pretty much buy the entire lot if you want to. :D

Or you have so much money, you can buy yourself a sweet old muscle car. Then buy 2 more just cuz they're different colors! You never actually race the other 2...they just look real good in your garage! :embarrassed:

I completely relate to this, I sold off my entire garage (except for one-time only prize cars) and ended up with a cool 15,000,000 cr which I used on a shopping spree to add cars for Arcade Mode. All said and done I ended up with 655 cars for Arcade Mode! I keep a buffer of around 1,000,000 cr because there's still cars I need to buy that are the JGTCs and LMPs. I admit, it was pretty fun searching out all those cars I need! I printed out a car list and highlighted off all the cars I got so far.

So here's a newbish question...and I expect some flames :embarrassed: but I'm asking anyways...:scared:

...I haven't done Arcade at all in GT4. When you guys say you're buying cars in arcade, I'm assuming you're buying the cars in arcade, right? You're not buying a car in simulation and then taking it to arcade? See the reason I haven't done arcade is I noticed you can't take sim cars over there anymore, and that had me kinda pissed off.

Many cars don't show up in arcade mode until you buy/win them in sim mode. All they mean is that they are buying the car in simulation mode so they unlock in arcade mode.

You can only do that in multiplayer mode. And regardless, if they are in your sim garage, they are unlocked in arcade mode.

Cars used in Arcade mode start with 0 miles and are pure stock, it's the only way to time trial or race these cars without adding needless miles and wearing out the engine.

I've been FGT-less for about 6 months or more. Sold it because I needed $$$ to build a few cars for a challenge.

And I never bothered to win it back.

Why would you want to use arcade if it's just you? That's kinda pointless if you ask me.

Plus you don't risk your 100% win (if you have one) and you can access a race quickly, simply and without much of a hastle.

By the way, for the people who have never been in Arcade Mode:
There are 3 ways to access cars;
By nationality, the year they were made in and your favourites.

The first option is simply choosing the manufacturer which is arranged next to the nation's flag.

On the second option is a timeline where you pick the year and cars from that year or era are selectable for your race. The great thing about the timeline is simply the fact that you can categorise cars easily and the timeline features information about each era (e.g. I believe it puts on pictures of Japanese cars in the Japanese sports car era)

The last option is, put simply, your 30 or less favourite cars. Obviously, it's convenient for you to find those special cars of yours. However, it may be just my game but it seems to take a while to load it up.

The only other loading problem I find is that if you scroll through the cars as soon as you enter a year or manufacturer etc, the smaller pictures of the car seem to bunch up and appear on top of each other, unless you stop or don't start straight away.

Another problem is that the timeline feature, while convenient, doesn't list all the cars available. While I do have 655 cars or so, the timeline lists only about 430 of them.

Many cars don't show up in arcade mode until you buy/win them in sim mode. All they mean is that they are buying the car in simulation mode so they unlock in arcade mode.

I see. Thanks.

Why not just use the cars out of your sim garage? Just access the memory card.

You can't take simulation cars over to arcade. I know..it's stupid. In GT2 & 3 you could take them from sim to arcade, now you can't. It sucks cuz this means you can't extensively tune if you race in Arcade. :grumpy: So I'm never doing GT4 Arcade...to me it's like I'm not really driving my car know what I meaN?

It's all right, Parnelli... At least if you race against a friend or an enemy in GT4, you can access your sweet old muscle-cars and other neat stuff.

But, I do share your feelings. As well as expressing frustration at the "20%" and "10%" rules for quick tune-ups. You'd think that the power can be raised as it can if new parts were installed, but no, it would be too complex. This ultimately cheats one out of up to 200hp, depending on the car in comparison to its Simulation Mode counterparts. (that you own)

At least the Gillet Vertigo gets 1061hp and can do 261mph...

I bought the used cars as I was going along. I believe I have all but two road cars and two race cars. I currently have 703 cars unlocked in Arcade mode.

It is a shame that your sim mode cars cant be used in arcade tho. But has anyone else noticed that your arcade time trial times show up in simulation mode and vice versa?

See I dont waste my time winning an F1 just to sell it for arcade cars.. first of all, all that wasted time was done for arcade, 2) you can't buy F1s nor can you maintain their qualities, 3)waste of electricity....

this calls for gameshark code. max cash, save. done
no longer need to use the cheat again. what's the benefit? saves you electricity, saves time, no car was sold at a hard price, and you get more money than selling the f1.

what's more you can buy whatever you want spend as freakishly much as you want, subtract 30 billion cr. and stil have enough for just about ever.
