Shottle Racing.
It’s like shuffling, but different.
On Saturday 10th December at 1.00pm I’ll be kicking off a shottle racing session.
It works like this;
Auto start is set at 10 minutes.
The first race is 7 laps of Autumn Ring in the Golf GTI from the recommended garage with a fastest first grid.
The guy who comes last picks a track and we go there with the Golf and have another race, starting with a reversed grid based on the previous race finish. The laps will be set so that the race will not exceed 15 miles.
The guy who comes last in that race picks another car from the recommended garage and we have another race at that track.
The guy who comes last in that race picks a different track and we go there with the same car……………etc, etc.
In that way we have two races with each car and two races at each track (except Autumn Ring), overlapping to give constant variety.
The cars will be fitted with their standard tyres.
Anyone unfortunate enough to have chosen two cars cannot choose any more, the choice defaulting to the next lowest finisher. The same principle applies in respect of tracks.
If a driver finds himself in the position of having come last on four occasions, in the interests of tight racing, he will be given the option of a complimentary tyre upgrade of one level relative to the rest of the field.
All 52 cars from the garage are available, and there are some real belters.
All road circuits (except SS7) are available, including those with variable weather. In that case the race will start off sunny with 0% water and the weather change set to 5. Variable weather isn’t compulsory at those venues which have it, just an option available to the picker.
No track can be picked twice, although the original track and its reverse counterpart are considered to be separate and so can both be chosen.
Once a car has been used it cannot be used again for a further four races.
No aids except ABS and driving line allowed, damage weak, track edge set to real, slipstreaming weak, penalties off, fuel/tyre degradation on. Parcel shelf nodding dogs optional.
And that’s it.
My objective with shottling is to give us close, hard racing in a concentrated dose. I hope that the ten minute gap between races will give people time to acclimatise to a car/track combo sufficiently to allow clean racing, without having us hanging around for ages waiting for a race to start.
So there you have it, shottling, like shuffling but different and, hopefully, better.
Cheers, Z.
