Should I buy a new disc...

...since I experience this sometimes on almost every weather/time change map? It happens sometimes, but just sometimes. There's literally little amounts of scratches, but just tiny bits, not massive scratches. This is what I'm talking about:

I know I made a similar thread to this, it's not my connection. Loading sometimes stays at 100% forever and never shows up, like when I went to GT Auto and left the game kept on loading for 20 minutes but never loaded. Or when during the menu screens audio just makes a "POP" sound and the music is gone. Or whenever I join 75% of lobbies the game freezes either during loading, mid race, when I'm chatting, even in the driver aids menu.

So, if I were to buy a new disc, where should I buy it? I don't have "game insurance" or a sort of disc warranty. I've had this game for over a year and a half, so I can't just grab the receipt and return it, and it wasn't like this out of the box, I came home from school to find my little sister and brother playing around with the disc, and it had a couple of TINY scratches and 1-2 medium-sized scratches. Disc cleaning might help, although it's a Blu-ray. You know when you wipe a disc and sometimes it just blurs the back cover? That's whats happening to my disc. I wipe it, it becomes clear, then 10 seconds later it becomes blurry again.

So, my main question is, (right up above) where should I buy a new disc from? And if I were to go to that place, would I get a discount? And if returning is out of the question, how should I clean the disc? The back gets really foggy, and even though I try and wipe it, it just becomes foggy again. Back in mid-2011 I had the same amount of scratches and there was no problem. Now, it glitches like mad, freezes, and it's getting really annoying.

EDIT - Online stores won't work, my father doesn't like shopping or paying online.

Reinstall the game?

Or ask a friend who has GT5 to let you borrow their disc, see if the result is the same. Then get a new disc if need be.

I have no friends...

...who have GT5 in real life. And what does reinstalling the game do? Does it delete my cars/drivers/DLC?

I had a gaming PC that did the same thing.
It was an overheating issue.
Make sure the vents are clear.
Back up your garage in case your ps3 dies.

Erm. Make sure you delete your GAME DATA. That will erase your photos, custom tracks, and possibly mess up your thumbnails. Before you delete anything however I'd suggest you back up your stuff on a USB drive.

Eek. Too soon for that. I'll try the cooling, it always seems when I take out the disc off the PS3 when it freezes it's blistering hot!

Dude I hate to say it but that picture you put up there is EXACTLY what my game looked like right before my graphics card went out on my old "fat" ps3 :( .. Sorry to get you worried but that's the honest truth :(

Son of a gun. B-but it only happens in change time/weather maps! I had it for two years, no dust, it's well vented, damn! My PS2 still works, but this?! Ugh.

Given that the graphics aren't the only problem here, I doubt that the graphics card is going.

Try a different game, that should confirm whether your graphics card is going or not.

Have you tried playing any other games? And does the PS3's fan kick in after a few minutes of use?

Yes, Skyrim, Battlefield 3, inFAMOUS 2, all those games. And yes, the fan kicks in a few minutes after use, and the back overheats quite easily. Now, though, I've dusted it out, vacuumed out all the dust, cleaned the vents, etc. And now I'm keeping it in an open area with a fan blowing at it (can't buy cooling pads) so it should be fine against overheating.

Cooooool. If you play a lot buy another but I'm saying try a used copy. The game is a classic so it's like $20 now but a used copy should be even less.

Bring your disc to your friends ps3. See if it works ok?

If its a fat ps3 it may be suspect. I would also save your game data and maybe re-install the game and all patches( will take along time tho)

And you think there is no dust but if you took it apart you will see the dust is everywhere!

Weirdest thing I've ever seen. Is it always behind the trees in the background and not on the track? And is it always just a strip like that?

I'VE MENDED SOMETHING!

It wasn't the disc at all! It was my PS3 constantly overheating, which meant it froze... a lot. When I took it out, vacuumed out all the dust, put it in an open area, and put a fan blowing on it, it's not freezing anymore! I guess it freezes in those types of tracks because they take much more CPU and processing, which in turn causes it to overheat! I am so happy with myself! :D

Mods, thread is solved.

this could only be a temporary solution.
Back Up your data every day and be prepared that the PS3 will eventualy die nonetheless.
is it a fat PS3?
Its a common problem.

My problem is when ever I try to drive the MUGEN AP1, it wouldn't show up plus the game music would stop and it would freeze. It happen on the Mine's R34(Premium) but manage to get it working, it would also freeze on the Shelby GT350R. This was on my PS3(NTSC-U/C 60GB PS3). When I tried GT5 on my cousin's PS3(Silm), it was doing great and appeared perfectly o_O. So I'm assume it's actually the system itself.

Had the same issue with Forza 3, my Xbox thought it was funny to scratch a nice circular scratch into my disc...lo and behold, trying to load a few tracks yields some fun results, like driving in space. Bought a new disc, and everything was fine.

So I suggest first deleting, then reinstalling your game data (backup any photos, replays, and tracks first). If that doesn't fix it, buy a new/used disc (of same region of course).

Just my input on the situation. We have a slim PS3 that is about 1 1/2 year old. The hard drive in ours crashed. Sony uses either Toshiba or Hitachi hard drives in the PS3. These two hard drives are the worst when it comes to reliabilty. We had some similiar experiences freezing up, really long load times etc. Then the hard drive crashed. Ours was always in an open space and then we added a couple of fans as well. So if yours is getting to the year or older be sure to back up all your games and be prepared to buy a new hard drive.
The hard drive is a standard 2.5 inch laptop hard drive. It is very easy to change. If you replace it I highly reccommend getting a Western Digital 7200 rpm hard drive. They are readily available. We got a 320GB for $70 and it has a 5 year warranty. May not be your issue but it sure sounds like similiar problems we had before our hard drive crashed. Luckily we had backed up our game saves to the PC. No matter the issue get your games backed up ASAP.
