Should I get the G27?

Depends on your budget and preferences. I like the g27 wheel more than the similarly priced fanatec wheels (gt3 rs v2), but the g27 pedals are very, very poor compared to the clubsport pedals.

The g27 set is close in price to a gt3 wheel and clubsport pedals. At this price point you must decide between good pedals and good wheel. You can't have both. That's my opinion on it anyway.

^The closest GT3rs package to the G27s cost is the GT3RS + CSR Elite pedals. Sure, they're better than the G27s, but not quite as good as the clubsports (which alone cost almost as much as the gt3rs+csre pedal package.)

That still $260 for the wheel+CSR Elite pedals, and it doesnt come with a shifter, if you wanted that it would be another $60 (plus shipping for both, so maybe an extra $20-30) vs ~200 for a G27.

And there are pedal mods for the G27, (the Nixim I think is ~30-40, and is supposed to be almost near load cells [not as good, but a good bit better than stock] gives a progressive resistance to them, and fairly easy to install, maintains compatibility.)

Also, I wouldn't say the GT3RS isn't a good wheel, its at least the equal to the G27, some would say better, others not as good (and some worry about the software on PC and general reliability, where overall I'd say the G27 comes out ahead.) But its not like if you get the Fanatec wheel you're getting good pedals but a rubbish wheel.

Slap a load cell on the G27 pedals And IMO they are just as good as CSP. I actually prefer G27 pedals with load cell mod over the CSP v1.

I suppose that might be the most cost effective solution. Good call.

The gt3 and gt7 wheels have completely different feels on iracing when the dampening is turned off. The high friction, belt driven gt3 was not for me. Maybe some peoria prefer it but I strongly disliked it.

The local price of a g27 in my area is $300. If you can scoop one up for $200 and mod it with a load cell (which is about $160 if I remember correctly) then that is a good way to go.

HOWEVER, the CSP has the brake pedal vibration which works very well on iracing once you install the correct plugin. I really love this feature.

I struggle to answer this without a point of reference, so I'll assume DS3, so if that's true, yeah both the wheels I bought made me re-fall in love with the game, I'd say the first 20% were DS3, another 25% were DFGT and the ever growing 55% now is with my G27. Which means I can't help when I think of the G27 of comparing it to my DFGT.

I love using the G27, it's a great wheel, the helical gears are nice and quiet, and more powerful for sure, The paddle shifters are a bit better because they are bigger, made of metal and make a nice click sound to them, the steering wheel, I think, is a tad bigger, but is mostly better because of the good quality leather feel, oh yes, a clutch and 6 gate shifter are good too.
But I don't think it's an entirely improved product over the DFGT, which makes for a superior wheel+controller combination, all because of the inclusion of DS3 buttons, especially the PS button, the adjustment wheel, which the 6 programmable buttons on the G27 can just never match, and the horn is good too.

So given my experience with both wheels, I think right now the G27 is of equal value to the DFGT, at their price points.

*checks G27* I found a G27 at canbuyit.ca for ~$244 including free delivery across Canada, idk, I paid $220AUD for mine nine months ago.

*checks DFGT* $119 for a DFGT is just as good at expansys.ca , I paid $120AUD for a used one nearly two years ago.

Knowing what I know now, I probably wouldn't have bought the G27, too many extra wires, clutch didn't work out as nicely as I would've liked, the lack of buttons on the wheel mean I need my DS3 when I use it, the strangeness of the feedback on occasion, all of these weigh it down to make it not a completely better product when using it with GT5, the DFGT doesn't have all the bells of the helical gears, medal shifter plates, leather steering wheel, or even a clutch, but the basic extras make it more useable, just power it, plug the pedals in, plug it into the PS3 (or PC) and you're good to go, even works with my PS2 recognised as the previous gen for GT4, and it works with GT3 too.

Oops. Forgot this isn't iracing section.

For gt5 I like the gt3 rs about as much as the g27 wheel. The csp brake vibration doesn't work properly with gt5 so that advantage is gone as well.

If its for gt5 the gt7 set with brake mod and the gt3 + csp set will perform similarly, so I would go with the cheaper of the two.

I have bought a G27 couple months ago as sllightly used (still had protective films on the wheel and shifter) though no warranty. Paid ~$214. And having never owned a FFB wheel before, my G27 made me the most parranoid person in the world with the sounds it makes. "Is it supposed to make such sounds?", "Maybe its broken?", "What if it is defective? Did I just paid a pile of money for a broken thing?" :ill: Heck I even had taken the thing apart to see if nothing's broken inside. As you'd expect, everything was fine, but as it was my first FFB wheel, I wasn't used to it's behavior. So far I have only used it with GT4 as I don't have a PS3 (yet!) and the only thing that stops me from having more fun, is the fact that I'm bored of GT4.

Overall it's a good wheel. If you can get one new with warranty for $200, then do it.

razzerx

Do it,do it!

If your an adult that has money to spend, and you like GT5,then buy one. It'll make you like it even more. It's the bang for the buck purchase.

As I've posted before:
It is normal.
This is one of the disadvantages of helical gears. Since the gears are cut at an angle this adds extra torque alone the motor shaft. If the motor is turn on and off very quickly (like driving on dirt) the shaft will overpower the spring (not very strong) and taps the top of the plastic stopper above it.
