Silly lawsuit of the day brought to you by BMW

Actually they are only doing it because Nissan did it to BMW first when BMW used the letter Z in one of their commercials.

They sued BMW in US for using only the "Z" letter in advertising campaign (claiming confusion with Nissan Z: Z350).
Court decided BMW should use "Z" only in combination with number (3, 4, 8 etc).

Now shameless Nissan is doing the same thing.

Oh and infiniti sued audi for the letter Q but they settled out of court.

I retract my "only in Canada" statement.

In fact, BMW tried to counter-sue them... in Canada?

Not a counter sue. What I meant was that nissan sued bmw sometime ago about the z advert in the us and now nissan has used the m logo in canada and BMW has decided to be as much as a prick about it as them.

Not technically a counter-sue, but still not far from it.

The fact that they tried the same thing, but from this side of the border makes me wonder if they got their legal advisors out of a box of Cracker Jacks...

infiniti's been using the m name on and off since 1990.

the question of whether infiniti intends to make a profit using an established identity (which is the point of copyright infringement) is a little different - i'd be surprised if there isn't some restriction placed upon nissan on the usage of "m" as it stands now.

Next they'll sue Sesame Street for implying their cars brought you the show...

"Todays show was brought to you by the letters B, M and W, and by the number 3"
