SimXperience and Dbox. Two great tastes that taste great together?

Hello fellow sim racing junkies,

Closing a deal on a home soon so its gotten me to thinking about the next evolution of my rig which is currently still in the storage facility.

I currently run the 4 Actuator D-Box and its fantastic. But I'm thinking it could be better. I'm looking for anyone who has the Traction loss unit from SimXeperience and the GS4 G seat.

My plan is to mount the D-Box on an 80/20 platform and then under that to mount the SimXperience Traction Loss unit, and the GS4 seat to replace my Sparco seat.

That way I get the transducer and motion from the D-box, the traction loss, and sustained G force from the seat. I think it would be the perfect sim at that point.

My only question is can the SimXperience commmander software and the D-Box software run at the same time for the same simulation. This is key to making this work.

Also, what games support traction loss? What games support the GS4 seat. I know D-Box supports over 50 games, and I'd love if the GS4 and Traction loss supported them as well. I'm really excited about this possibility.

Thanks for any insight.

Might be cheaper to buy a Dalara chassis and a 7 post shaker rig. Would you only be using the G-force airbags of that seat or the motion as well? Because if you use multiple motion effects at once it sounds like it would need to be in perfect synchronization to produce the desired effect. Otherwise you might get the D-box moving upward and the chair pulling downward at the same time out of phase like a subwoofer. End result is your body would not feel the accurate motion translated through multiple actuators. Don't know, just seems really complicated to keep them in phase

Leman, the chair doesn't move, it is the GS4 seat with the 4 quadrants that have plates that move. So basically the entire rig would be moving, but the chair would give sustained Gs where the Dbox does not. Its in compliment to the Dbox, it doesn't do the same thing.

You're thinking of the SimXperience actuator chair that move around, this is different. Its the G seat they bought out from UltraForceSims.

I don't think it will work with any of the codemasters games: Simcommander edits a line in the hardwaresettingsconfig.ini, whitout it simexperience will not work.

It changes :

<motion enabled="true" ip="dbox" port="20777" delay="1" extradata="1">

into

<motion enabled="true" ip="127.0.0.1" port="10001" delay="1" extradata="1"/>

So for the codemasters games you need to choose between simvibe and dbox.
Not sure about the other racegames though

Dbox I know supports almost all of them officially without editing anything, which is the great part of Dbox, it supports so many games natively by just having the software on the PC, you don't even have to be running it.

So for all games you have to edit them to get the SimXperience portion to run?

If thats the case I'd rather have Dbox, but does this apply to all games?

Also does it apply to the GS4 seat?

That's the issue here. Again speaking for the codemasters games :

They have native support for dbox and need modification of the hardwaresettingsconfig.ini for simvibe to work. (located in the my documents/my games/(game title) folder

Simcommander does this automatically, so the user doesn't have to do anything, but i believe simcommander will take away the dbox support by editing the config file and thus changing the port to which the data is send.

I did read somewhere about the codemasters proxy server, which might help you out here

Does simcomamder apply to the GS4 seat as well? My dreams are crumbling here.

I have heard from both Dbox and SimXperience that there are several people on iracing running both but I'm not a member. Any iracing members care to cut and paste these discussions here?

I believe the GS4 is also powered by simcommander.

Simxperience is also working on simcommander 4, maybe there are some changes which could make it possible.

My advice would be:: Email customer support at simxperience and ask them :)

Mate I really think you're going into unknown territory and bolting on 3 different types of motion systems that yes should work, but will they work together...

In hindsight if I was to want to increase my motion solution (which after sitting in a GS-4 I won't be) this is where you need to be.. a "low cost" 6DOF platform that your VR3 can sit on:

http://www.ckas.com.au/6dof_low_cost_systems_62.html

I personally wouldn't use their thruxim rig but my own custom one mounted to their base.

Thanks for the insight my friend, right now its all preliminary. I have the main component which is my 4 actuator Dbox, which as you already know is awesome. Just looking for the sustained Gs, and I think the Geko seat is the better option. After looking at pics of it including the underside, I'm almost positive it can be modded onto an existing race seat.

Yeah I've seen those platforms, but in order for those to function you'd have to have the screens attached to the rig like the Dubai full car simulators or use an Oculus rift. And it doesn't provide tactile like Dbox. I think that would be better for flight sims. While I love my Oculus, I think that for Racing I'll stick to three or five projectors for now. Checking your PM now. :)

Ahh yes, forgot about the tactile - it's such a massive part of the immersive experience with d-box (I sounds like a brochure)

If we can find a horizontal actuator design that sits between the seat mounts and the base for lateral only movement - it would complete the D-Box motion system perfectly..!
