Hi, I'm having trouble with my Skyline R32 Vspec II. It's fully modded and about 894BHP. The problem I'm having is with my settings. The way I have my gearing at the moment it is common that I have to go down to low gears, and sometimes the car doesn't get any traction and the car doesn't turn, it just gets paralysed. The odd thing is I can be driving down a straight, go easy or hard on the brakes and start turning into the corner, but the car won't turn. To correct this I tried using the handbrake, but this makes things worse. My gears start flashing and there is no sign that the car doesn't have enough traction to turn I don't know what's causing this problem. Thanks for any help you can give me :P

Set your VCD so it has a Rearwards tendency. You can put it at the minimum front setting (which would be 10%) and see if that helps. Try different tire compounds, or different suspension settings. If you have ASM or TCS, that could be a part of your problem, too.

If you need a setup, i'd recommend www.gtvault.com Pretty awesome setup site.

Do you have ASM set to zero? That should be your first adjustement to any car.

Thanks for the speedy replies :) I think these are the settings I'm using, obtained from GTVault:

Setup Item Front Rear Gearing
Spring Rate 12.2 13.0 First 3.188
Ride Height 92 92 Second 2.110
Shock Bound 5 5 Third 1.524
Shock Rebound 6 6 Fourth 1.156
Camber 2.5 1.7 Fifth 0.921
Toe 0.0 0.0 Sixth 0.770
Stabilizer 4 3 Final 3.800
Brake Balance 18 21 Auto Set 34
Downforce N/A N/A Assist / Misc
Limited Slip Front Rear ASM 0
Initial Torque 5 5 TCS 5
Accel 5 53 VCD 10
Decel 5 10 AYC N/A

The problem doesn't happen all the time, but it is most noticable in corners like the corkscrew in Laguna Seca and the last hairpin at Midfield. By the way, if it makes any difference, I'm usually using Medium Hard or Soft tires and have TCS set to 3 because I find it helps me be quicker at the starting line, because I don't like to qualify :banghead:

Well, given those two examples, I'd have to say brake earlier. They are both corners that need to be eased through very carefully. In addition, try this:

Camber: 3.0/1.0 (promotes front end grip)
Toe: +0.5/-0.5 (promotes rotation)

If it still plows, go up to +0.5/-1.0 on the toe, or even to -1.5 at the rear. Hope this helps.

For what it's worth, I've heard that installing a VCD on the Skyline interferes with the stock active center diff. Try removeing the VCD entirely and see if that helps.

I've had personal experiences with the same problems andrew, take the VCD off. That will 'reactivate' the ATTESA system...
At that time I THINK I was using the R32, but I could have been using R34... Don't know if it makes a difference though.

I think that on most occasions the wheels aren't locking but sometimes when I'm in the middle of the race group I will try to turn and brake hard at the same time, perhaps causing this problem, although the problem still occurs at other times.

I think I only experienced this problem after purchasing the VCD upgrade, which forces some power into the front wheels in all situations if I'm right?

That's what I'm saying - remove the VCD upgrade in the Change Parts screen. It interferes with the stock active VCD that comes on the Skylines. They actually perform worse with the VCD upgrade than they do in original form.
