I have no doubt that the SLS is a better car in the game, but it seems that everyone who has driven the SLS thinks it is better than the SLR. Now I know the SLS has a larger engine, but less HP, and it is about half the price, which makes me think that it has slightly less R and D in its development, also Mclaren was involved with the R and not the S. So, if these two faced off at a track, which one wins? Anyone have the power lap times from the Stig? Unfortunately I think they were to different Stigs.

I think SLR would win in a drag race, but where cornering matters the SLS > SLR.
SLR is a beast though. I have a stealth SLR. Bought one from the dealership, painted it in a nice black, painted the rims a nice black, and at night tracks you can barely see the body. Only the lights are visible. :D

The SLR I beleive, is considerably heavier, but does produce somewhere over 600hp, while the SLS gives about 570 or 580. Around the track, the SLS may come out ahead, but I think in a drag race, the SLR should edge out.

They're very close. They weigh virtually the same. The SLR has the power advantage, but the SLS has a much better transmission. Seven speed close ratio dual clutch > five speed wide ratio slushbox.

the SLS is a better car (it's more livable and less prone to chronic oversteer), but it's also a slower car. in other words, the SLR is faster, but the SLS is arguably better.

Haven't played both in game, but in real life I prefer the SLR.

It got a lot of criticism for being too heavy etc. but I think it is an amazing car. It also looks much better than the SLS (the front looks good, but I can't stand the rear of the SLS) and sounds incredible.

The only thing I don't like about either car is the lack of a proper manual gearbox (worse in the SLR which is automatic, at least the SLS gets the dual clutch).

Although I really like the SLR, I believe Mclaren had little to no input in the the development of the SLR.

I mean 5 speed automatic.

But other than that the SLR is a beast I prefer it over the SLS any day.

If you have half million, than go with the SLR, if you don't, then go with the SLS. It's trying to compare the Camaro to the Corvette, different price points, and the SLS doesn't even replace the SLR directly, just takes its spot in the lineup.

Yeah Mercedes talking to McLaren were like " you can put your name on zis zide of zee kaar unt zat will be all..."

Seriously what the hell does the SLR have anything at all representing McLaren?
It reeks of MB through and through, not that there is anything wrong with that...

And the SLS is allegedly why they split. McLaren probably had a heart attack when MB was like "unt vee vill uze zee chassis from zee new viper."

My thoughts exactly, its like comparing SLS's to SLR's.

+1 for humor.

Mclaren should have worked with BMW (Not because I am a BMW fan) but because BMW made the engine for the Mclaren F1. It seems fitting why did they jump to BMW's direct opponent!

Carbon fibre and lots of it, Thats something Mclaren are good with, they make the cars.

Mercedes owned a big stake of Mclaren (at the time).

Maclaren did do the SLR and they did it properly. I remember seeing the mule cars driving around Woking in Surrey back in the day.

Where the problems arose was with weight. Mercedes started changing the rules during its development forcing Maclaren to add radiators and other cooling stuff.

The car is the only production car so far to have full ground effects with a flat underbelly. The exhaust system does not see airflow at all and exits at the side. If I remember correctly, it was this request from Mercedes amongst others that caused a lot of cooling issues.

I seem to remember from an article in evo magazine that the car is about 300kgs heavier than Maclaren had started out with because of Mercedes' input.

Less pro e to over steer did you see the topgear Xmas special clarkson wasted his tyres in a few laps on an oval.

Slr bigger engine carbon chassis designed and built by Mclaren
Sls mercedes bringing back the design elements of one of mercedes great cars the 300sl

The SLR is the looking forward and the SLS is looking backwards

The mp4/12c is the car that got up mercedes nose. That coupled with the fact Ron Dennis wasn't going to sell up. So they bought brawn go instead.

The SLS looks nicer, is cheaper, and according to Jeremy Clarkson, looks, and sounds like a muscle car, but isn't. And, it's very tail happy.

Anyway, fun means everything in my opinion, so it's the SLS, just wish I had it on GT5 (I hate using cars in arcade mode)

What a ****ing turnaround that was.

Honda pull out, Brawn scrapes some funding, Mercedes give him the engines, he engineers a losing car to cope with the new engine, wins the championship and then sells for ****ing ****loads to Mercedes and still keeps the job he loves above all else.

Hollywood script.

The SLR handles much better than the SLS, and from what i seen when Jeremy Clarkson drove it, it's a handfull. Now, he's no pro driver, but he's not bad either. I myself think the SLR would be faster all around.

The SLR sounds better IMO and, the bonnet view is something to behold!

I swear this is definitely the most low grumbling bad@$$ V8. It has some kind of harmonics with my sound system...good vibrations.

It purrs like a kitty kat, a big kitty kat.

Oh yes the sound, I remember that from the Top Gear review. Sounds AMAZING!! (the first part of the video)

The SLR is the looking forward and the SLS is looking backwards

First, Clarkson does most of what he does on the show for entertainment and is often a poor basis for objective car comparison.
Second, he wasted his tires because he spent most of the time in the oval intentionally sideways.

As for the question: I like the SLR more and I'm a bit faster with it in the game. If I had to daily drive one of them though, the SLS is definitely more livable on a daily basis.

I'd take the old 300sl over both of them though.

not seeing anything here^ that most people wouldn't do given the circumstances.
