Smoother steering with the stick controller - a simple mod

Okay, I hope it's alright to make this thread here, as I believe some if not most stick users would have difficulties with smooth steering input on the Motegi event in GTA.

I got the idea from a friend of mine, so here goes, I experimented a bit with some rubber band, the usual type, we can use thinner or thicker ones to give certain resistance effect to lessen the sensitivity of the analog stick. I would recommend this for pad user as well, this might be a good step to get used to analog stick.

The more rubber band used, the heavier it will be to move the analog stick, the strength of the resistance may not be suitable to some, so experiment a lot until you find the right spot. The benefit of course, firmer feel, tight movement, and smoother input. The bad thing is it makes the stick heavier to move.

To be clear, here is the picture that I have also posted on another thread in this sub forum - the NA general discussion.

I have tried this mod for several laps, I don't really like it, but anyone who's interested should give it a go. I hope it would help giving smoother steering and shave more time :)

What do you guys think ? Want to try and see how it goes ? Feel free to give your story or feedback:cheers:

EDIT : I highly recommended to change the steering sensitivity under driving options to 2 or whatever that suits, experiment until you got the perfect balance quick and precise steering.

Using steering sensitivity of 0, my previous no assist, no brake assist record with stick was 1:35.234 done after 5 laps or so. Today I tried the mod, I made 1:35.075 in 2nd lap.

On the second try, 1st lap I have made an improvement again 1:34.909 and again 1:34.759

I modified the internals, the face buttons now needs 3 times more pressure to full input compared to the usual DS3. Replace the inner rubber pad for the face buttons, put some cushion between the electronic board and the rear casing. I did this as I happen to have several old PS2 stick gathering dust, few experiment with some stick, I found out that they have different degree of pressure sensors, so I kind of salvaged them for good use :) I am using a USB converter, works like a charm.
