I see you managed to scroll right past the Sports and Fitness Sub-forum.

Anyway on topic I've never been snowboarding myself, been skiing the past few seasons, but no snowboarding yet. It's something that I will get round to doing one day.

A few Videos I like:

Those are sick. Thanks for posting.

If you like those go to youtube and type in Ben Ross: Sponsor me.
That's a sweet video too.

Nice posts. I am from Washington and have been snowboarding for 10 years(since i was 11). I never really got into the trick scene(do some things here and there, can do 540's and backflips, but nothing very technical). I mostly love to go powder hunting. I do not have any video or pictures, but here is a video some of my friends made last year that I ride with when I am home, it is also taped at my home mountain

I've ridden with Ross Powers a while ago. My little Brother is one of his best Friends.

They went to Stratton Mountain Ski School together. In fact, My little brother just missed out on the Olympic team a few years back.

I've ridden Stratton, Bromley, Mt. Snow, Jay Peak, Okemo, Loon, Cannon, and Waterville Valley. That was years ago. Haven't been out since I got married. No correlation though.

I'm hoping to bomb some hills with my new board thiscoming season.

It's a 2007 Arbor Element 152 with Burton Mission bindings. :)

Need boots though. I rode a POS Liquid Venture for seven years before that.

Sick videos.

Am I some sort of relic from the Cretacious period? I never do tricks, though. I'm just in it or the ride. :)

Oh those mission bindings are sick. Let me show you the binding I have.

You've already been told about your low quality posts. You've also been told about not double posting.

Yet here you are triple posting with pointless posts. Why?

I would advise you to cut out the double and triple posting, and to improve the quality of your posts. If you do not, your membership here will be a fairly short one.

It would seem that the baanhammer was primed and waiting for executive orders. :nervous:

I've a few questions in the realm of snowboarding. I completely understand that I live in the land of flat and it's not even the end of September.

I recently ordered a pair of Burton Rulers to complete my setup, and had them on in the bindings to test the feel. It was a little similar to the setup I had with my old board, which was +18 and -6 on a liquid venture 144. +18 -6 didn't feel quite right on my Arbor Element. If I'm not mistaken, that's a duckfooted stance, which offers far greater stability and is primarily used in the pipe.

I'm a freerider/carver. I've been trying to figure why my old setup seemed so lethargic on the mountain no matter what I did. Part of it could have been the Liquid Venture, part could have been the drake bindings, and part may well could have been the stance.

I've tuned my new board a little, and my bindings are right on the center marks. (I'm about 5' 7", the board is an arbor Element 152 and the Bindings are Burton Missions) I changed it to +24 + 6, and that seemed to feel much better with the spacing on this board.

This element has never been ridden even though I've had it for a year. Assuming that I were to try both +18 -6 and +24 +6 binding angles on the same slopes, would any of you expect a noticeable increase in speed and responsiveness? What's the normal range of angles for someone who rides regular?

And also. I'm pondering one or more ski trips with friends on winter break and spring break. Living in Kansas, Colorado is the cheapest option for me. I haven't been to Winter Park in years, so I might end up going there. A-Basin would be fun as well. Are resorts in Utah or Montana worth the extra expenses in gasoline in lodging? i.e. Are the mountains just that spectacular?

And here are a few pics taken with my far beyond terrible digital camera:

:20 on the youtube video: I hate falling like that, It just breaks your but bone. :D And never go on a ski racing trail on a snowboard, It's so different, It's like... All ski marks and that's where I fall the most lol.

I had the pleasure of snowboarding on every kind of possible snow in my first season. Powder is by far the funnest and Ice.. well it's fast and hurts.

Im glad I bought a helmet... On my second run ever on a mountain, I hit the back of my head.

Yeah, Good thing you did buy a helmet. I like riding on ice too. :D Powder and ice are good, Not slush! I hate slush. The only time when I hate ice is at the end of every jump in the WHOLE park! Last year, thats what it was like. :(

Question.. How long will it take me to break in my new boots? My Burton Rulers have been HELL on my feet. I pulled the insoles and that helped a bit, but by then it was a losing battle against the immense pain. I was warned it would be bad, but I had no idea it would be THAT bad. I plan to go out to Colorado over president's day weekend, and I'd like to not deal with what I went through last week.

Three days in Montana.. two at moonlight basin, one at big sky. Too bad Karst stage coaches lost the skis my friends rented by not closing the luggage hatch on motorcoach, otherwise we would have gone for one more. Lucky me for having my board in a different compartment. :nervous:

The element rides like a dream. Jan 1, 2010 was started by bombing black runs. 8)

Can someone tell me why I can turn on my toes just fine but can't do squat heelside? I'm goofy btw...

I'm not sure, though I'm goofy too, and I found it much easier to master toeside first as well.
I've since tried to teach several "regular" folks and they all seem more comfortable on heelside first.

It's going to be a practice thing, you're going to have to find a good slope and practice coming down it entirely in the "falling leaf" way just on your heels until you get your balance right.
Push off into the heel position and glide across the slope on your heels until you stop, then glide back the other way still on your heels until you get comfortable with the balance, though being on 1 edge for a prolongued period does make you legs burn a bit!!!

It's also a matter of overcoming the fear of speed and being "out of control", as it's actually easier to transition heel-toe-heel-toe turns while moving quicker than it is to try it while moving slowly on a shallow beginner slope, as you're much more likely to have one of those "catch an edge and stop dead" moments while going slow.

Patience and persistence. 👍 It'll come to you eventually and you'll suddenly be amazed at why it seemed so difficult in the first place!

I'll be back up in Tahoe over Superbowl weekend and will have a think about the mechanics of what my legs are doing and get back to you with any tips I can think of as a fellow goofy.

Going boarding this weekend. Probably last time this season.
I think my heels and toes hanging over the board so much might have something to do with it as well. I'm using rented equipment so it's not like I can get a wider board. Widest they have still leaves ~2" of overhang on each side.
You're right though. It's the fear.

I'm regular. My toes and heels hang off too. Some times I get slowed down because I'm turning and my toes are hitting :P I hate when that happens. It's good I don't hit any jumps like that. I'd probably go flying haha.

Oh, I learned toe-side first. Guess I'm weird? haha.
