Discover the art of the possible. A concept car like no other. We harnessed the most cutting-edge, avant-garde technological solutions that exist in the world today to create a racecar that could exist in the distant future.

As such, the technology that’s been applied to MP4-X is all real, even if it’s still in its earliest stages of conception. McLaren Applied Technologies is at the forefront of the development of these new forms of tech – read their insights throughout this feature.

Scroll through our extensive gallery of images, learn more about the thinking behind some of the key technologies in use, and share your thoughts and opinions on both the car and the future of motorsports by using the hashtag #McLarenMP4X.

Yeah, at or least a future GT Forza title. They already struck up a tighter relationship with the McLaren DLC in GT6 FM6 so who knows! Would love to try it out.

Actually looks very nice, I don't usually go for these future concepts but this one somehow looks more believable. I guess because it still has the rough form of a current F1 car.

The what now?

Totally got GT confused with Forza there. Don't mind me.

So yeah, the MP4-X in Forza would be awesome.

It looks like it came from the depths of Wayne Enterprises secret project division, for when Batman inevitably had to take up racing to catch a rogue.

I like it!

Red Bull vs McLaren, would want to watch :)

I was thinking a couple days ago about how cool it would be if PD approached all the current F1 teams and asked them to design their dream X-series F1 car and included them in a future GT game, especially since PD has a partnership with the FIA now. Give them their own career championship and everything. I think it'd be fantastic, especially looking at what the different teams could come up with.

I would think the series will need regulations to keep the cars balanced, but yeah, that would be great :) It will be similar to Cyber Formula GPX ( anime ) :D I really love that show and the movies. PD could take some of the cars design there, functional and cool. ( Boost usage, fan system, dynamic ride height, torque vector all wheel drive, and AI car management-futuristic )

Its an electric racer with batteries in the body, regenerative braking and solar panels to recharge it, plus conductive properties to use (magnets?) in the track as well. Sounds Vision GT'ish, but it's where they see F1 in the future. Awesome car!

Reminds me of the McLaren concept F1 car some fan did...

It's your turn, Ferrari and Mercedes! ;)

Ferrari had already gone public with their F1 "revival" proposal back in February (teams presented ideas to the F1 commission back then). The idea is/was to have a heavy change for 2017 and forward. Of course money issues between teams means its unlikely they'll get this soon.

Remember when some said F1 should be closed cockpit? I think guys at Mclaren planned to do one.

F1 heads and FIA are not sold on canopy security (and looks), but these talks have been going as early as Massa's accident.

---

I like this design, better profile line than Ferrari's and not as wide-bodied (as the X2010 too).

They have a similar design. The "X2010" shape. That's it. I was wrong to compare them.

I really want to see the MP4-X in action.

It's the entire concept of the car McLaren are referring to, not just the general shape/exterior design.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the MP4-X doesn't have the fan generating downforce (only passive venturi tunnels), so it wouldn't be a competitor to the Red Bull X1. It's more of a Red Bull Standard with its closed wheels and cockpit, but no fan. Still awesome though 👍
