[SOLVED] DVD drive slow...

OK, so I went to burn a DVD the other night and I ran into problems. It was a copy of a DVD I'd already made (so no piracy protection issues or anything like that) and Nero said it had read errors...

I tried another program, and while that didn't come up with any errors, it just didn't work.

Great. So my drive is shot.

I get a new drive today, and install it, and it's really slow. I chucked a CD-R in and accessing files takes about 30secs.

I tried to play a DVD, and it won't play at all.

So I tried to copy the same DVD I originally tried, and I get the same read errors.

So, it looks like the problem never was with my drive.

I'm looking to do a full re-install this weekend blow away any problem that might be there, but before I go to that length is there anything you suggest I should look at that might be causing the problem?

Thanks for any help. :)

Oh, my new drive is an LG GH22LP20.

Who knows it could be the ribbon cord. It happened before with the CD drive in the old family PC. Or it could be driver issues.

I don't think it's drivers, as the drive is brand new and I've asked it to update drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled it and what-have-you. And it's exhibiting the same faults as the "old" drive.

I don't think it's firmware either, as this is a brand new drive and it has the same symptoms as the "old".

I looked a bit on the 'net and following some instructions I uninstalled the Primary and Secondary IDE controllers, forcing them to reinstall. They did, but it's no better.

OK, you can stop trawling the Internet and talking to your buddies for me. You can delete all the bookmarks to helpful sites you had made, and put your hardware back to its normal configuration after trying to replicate my problem.

It's working again!

Turns out it was a faulty connection on the IDE cable. So a new cable later and we're back in business. 👍

Thanks to all who helped. :)
