*SOLVED* Need a new headset. What should I get?

if you not worried about needing a mic then you could always buy a decent set of audiophile headphones for around the same price as what you want to spend on a gaming headset which should yield better sound quality.

The Sony Wireless Headset 2.0 is a good value headset. I use Sennheiser HD595 when not needing a mic and you have to listen very hard to notice the difference beyond the sound stage of the open headphones.

Your link is to a UK site but if you're buying from the States Astro A40 will be in the ball park. Never listen to them but they get good reviews.

+1 for the Sony Gold Wireless headset 2.0.. it is a great headset and can be found for under $65. No annoying mic boom sticking out. Has easy to access controls on the left ear cup. I have had mine for about a year now and never once had an issue with almost daily use.

You can tune the EQ with the companion app as well.. but I prefer the default bass boost profile with the virtual surround sound off.. but the VSS works pretty well if you are into that kind of thing but it takes a bit away from the full audio range.

Audio Technica do a couple of headsets now. One closed, one open back.

Astro A50s, thank me later.
I have a refurbished set. They are awesome and work on all devices.
I had Pulse V1 before them and they were good but the plastic started cracking (so I sent them back and got refurbished A50). Only thing that Astro is missing is the direct 3.5 jack ( that was really nice feature )

I need Mic for gaming obviously. That's why i said headset and not headphones

How is the customization on the Sony Wireless? They're at $78 on Amazon right now. Can I adjust volumes separately? Game audio, mic sensitivity, and voice audio?

Yes there is a control for chat vs game volume, there is a mute button, there is a button to turn on/off the VSS, there is the standard volume button.. and there are two modes A/B you can assign the second mode a custom EQ using the companion app. Game Devs come out with their own custom profiles for it. - It is a full featured head set with great mic, easy to access buttons, and good range of sound. If the battery dies and you want to keep using it it can be charged while using (if you run a long cable to it) or there is a cable included to hook it to your controller.

Edit - sorry MIC sensitivity is controlled via the PS4 and there is only a mute button on the headset it self.

For the price you pretty much can't beat it for all around features and quality.

I am pretty sure it works on Windows PCs as well but I never tried it.

I need to adjust volumes on the fly due to different cars and people's mics being at different levels.

I'll just stick with the Turtle Beach PX22. It's wired but has all the controls I want. An extra 30 bucks for the same headset but wireless. Not worth it. I really wanted wireless so I can leave the room between races and still hear what's going on but it's not that big a deal.

If the Turtle beach is $30 less and you are ok with it being wired than that is a better choice obviously 👍

The PS wireless gold headset does allow you to change others chat volume vs the game volume on the fly, just not the level of your own mic.

I ordered on your recommendation. They arrived earlier today, charged and tested on a PS3 with GT6. (I have to test chat later tonight)

Thank you.

Curious how you got on with these and your impressions with build, value for money and if you think they are worth it.
Gamers in general mostly seem impressed although I have often come across issues mentioned regards the mic quality being poor.

Have an upcoming thread regarding headphone and wireless options but it seems with research I have done. Even the best regarded gaming "headsets" in audio quality performance seem to fall rather short to a quality Hifi Headphone in the $200-$300 price range.

They sound good to me and I like the features. My friends say they can clearly hear me online. The only thing I didn't care for was not being able to use DTS. I was previously using the Sony headset and these are far far better then those.

Indeed, some may still be searching for a headset, or beginning their search today or even right now. If notifications are a bother, you can turn them off at this site. I believe default will send emails and I did not care for that either. Good luck.

Thanks for reply, I would expect them to be better than the Sony 2.0 but then again their is a rather big price difference. I have watched some Youtube reviews/comparisons which agree but not everyone seems to think the difference in performance is worth the additional amount.

If you can add any more info for comparison or personal preference would be appreciated, oh perhaps via PM as not to upset anyone eh.

I bought refurbished A50 (from official astro ebay) more then a year ago I guess (after I got refund on my Sony Pulse ones which started developing cracks on the plastic) and they are and sound great. They where considerably cheaper as I remember.
Only had couple of scratches on the plastic.

The only thing I miss on them (That pulse had) is using them straight trough 3.5mm jack without an adapter (it was great on vita and my smartphone)

As i remember comparing them to PULSE ones (I know that the GOLD ones are the newer ones)

The battery life is longer.
The wireless range is better .
The sound is overall better (and drivers are capable of being louder, I can practically use them as speakers).

Only couple of advantages PULSE one had are:

Custom profiles (They were great for the last of us etc)
Vibration was neat thing
and direct connection to 3.5 jack (wired mode)

If my PULSE would not develop the cracks I probably still use them today. They where awesome for the price.

Astro was the second choice (I needed something to connect to PS4/PS3/PC/VITA/TV and most where PC only or Console only (with some quirks) )
