Solved! Windows 10 clean install from HDD to SSD....

I have a huge problem and need help from more knowledgeable people.


Today I tried clean installing Win10 from a USB pen, but I won't let me install on my SSD, where Win10 is already installed on.

I had to install it on my 1TB HDD but I want it installed on my SSD.

How do I proceed?


I get an error code, 0x85ca28d0, when trying to install on SSD but nothing comes up on google search.

Fixed the problem.

Had to delete a 450 MB recoverypartition to allow Windows to install on the SSD.

A clean Windows 10 install on the same drive can be initiated from Windows 10 itself.

I thought you said the SSD already had windoze on it, and you just wanted to reinstall? Or is the existing installation broken?

A clean Windows 10 install on the same drive can be initiated from Windows 10 itself.

Problem is that the SSD won't allow to install Win10 to it. Only the HDD.

Also, can't find the SSD now in desktop where C:, D: etc should be.

Yes, Win10 was already installed on SSD, but I wanted a clean install of it on the SSD. However it doesn't work.

I think youre getting it wrong, first the SSD is being used as a system, format it and now you can use it, tho format means deleting everything whats inside and if you dont see it then try using live win and format ssd

P.S. you cannot double install same os with same architecture, you can install only 2 different ones

Where you choose the disc to install to, there should be an option to remove and create partitions etc. But I think someone with more Win10 experience should jump in here.

Can you still reboot into the Win10 that's on the HDD?

I did already try that from the first moment.

It wouldn't let me choose the SSD, only the HDD.

When I go to controlpanel -> diskmanagement, I find the SSD in beneath the HDD, but says unallocated?

That's where you create a partition.

Yeah I tried creating it and reboot pc to install Win10 on it...

Same error.

"Windows can not be installed on this drive. The chosen drive has a MBR-partitiontable. On EFI-systems, Windows can only be installed on GPT-disks." Roughly translated.

I'm pretty confident you still have a system partition somewhere on the ssd.

Solution
The resolution to this issue depends on the the hard disk volume size:

Follow these steps if the hard disk volume size is less than 2.19 TB:
Temporarily disable the EFI Boot Sources setting in the BIOS:
Restart the computer, and then press F10 to enter the BIOS.
Navigate to Storage > Boot Order , and then disable the EFI Boot Sources .
Select File > Save Changes > Exit .
Install the Windows operating system.
Enable the EFI Boot Sources setting in the BIOS:
Restart the computer, and then press F10 to enter the BIOS.
Navigate to Storage > Boot Order , and then enable the EFI Boot Sources .
Select File > Save Changes > Exit .

Both HDD and SSD are less than 1 TB. 931 GB and 223 GB respectively.


I might have found the problem... Will update.

Okey, it seems like i've fixed the problem.


Had to delete a 450 MB recoverypartition to allow Windows to install on the SSD. Weird. But easy fix in the end.
