First of all, I tried to use the search, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be working for me right now, every time I click "submit" or whatever it is, it doesn't do anything at all.

Anyway, my sister is beginning to look for a first car, and she's got her heart set on a Miata Convertible. So I decided to find out some stuff about them, so she wouldn't end up getting a piece of crap for a car.

So, first of all, what are the biggest problems with these cars? Especially the early 90s Miatas, as that is probably gonna be all she can afford.

Second, how much do those cars cost for day to day maintenence? How much are parts?

And finally, how much would she have to pay for one that's in good condition and runs?

I'll show this thread to her when it gets some good responses.

Ok, now about the Mustang question...

Ok, I need to know something. As some of you may know, my 1965 Mustang currently has the 200 c.i. Inline 6, which is pretty pathetic, considering some of the other engines which will fit in a '65 Mustang.

So, what I need to know is this: About how much should I expect to pay for a good, running 289 V8? How rare are they? Also, would I be able to fit anything bigger in a '65 Mustang? If so, what is it, and how much would I have to pay for one?

One last thing, what kind of upgrades do those engines take to best(supercharger, etc.)?

thanks

Miata's are great, and I know a person who has one, and they are fairly good running cars. Unless something major goes wrong, they are easily fixed, and fairly cheaply too. I have seen them from 8 to 15 grand (can) depending on year. Mostly 93's and 94's I have seen. This would be a great car to start with..

Now with regard to the mustang, why wouldn't you replace it with 302/5L motor? I have seen these in the bargain finder for 300 w/ transmission. I think (don't really know much at this point I didn't get my bargain finder) that there are less 289's than 302's. Really, you could fit any small block in your mustang.

The 302's and 289's take just about everything that you can think of. Turbo's Superchargers, heads. You name it, they make it for any mustang powerplant. If you are looking for hopup parts, check out
