Something is very wrong

Having played GT3 extensively I had looked forward to GT4. But GT4 seems to be a mixed bag aside from the lack of online play.

From the opening video to the immense variety of the most interesting cars in the world to the large number of tracks, it is quite an achievement. The physics feel like an improvement too.

But I have noticed there is a problem with chassis adjustments. They don't work! Trying to solve a severe snap oversteer problem in the Ford GT on the Infinion (it will always be Sears Point to me) track, nothing had any effect. Driving hard up the left hand sweeper after start/finish where the elevation increases suddenly, the back end jumps out violently as if the rear suspension bottomed. Same on the flat high speed right hand kink (turn 10 I think)when trying to trail brake lightly. In the real world these two problems would make me look for a sticking rear shock.

Granted these are two of the most tricky places on any track in one of the most demanding cars, but no adjustments have any noticeable effect. Stiffer springs and/or more ride height, etc.

So I took the Ford GT to the skid pad to play with adjustments. Still no effect on the car's behavior. Very frustrating.

Oh BTW, I always run with all driving aids turned off except traction control set to 1 for some high powered cars that are hard to control wheels spin on standing starts.

Anyone notice these issues?

having never driven the gt40 on infineon i can't comment as to your experiences, but rest assured suspension adjustments DO work in the game

perhaps you have the car too low? or your tyres are having their grip limit exceeded? gt4 is alot more harder to bring back once you lose traction, especially in an MR car. it's quite hard to drive even a lightly tuned NSX without drifting

glad to hear someone else who doesn't use ASM and TCS

Hi, MartyU, and welcome to GTPlanet! Always nice to have more new mmembers who obviously know what they're talking about.

Poke your head in the Is GT4 suspension tuning backwards? thread and skim through that. You'll see we're still coming to terms wityh how the suspension adjustments are made.

Make sure you're stiffening the REAR SPRINGS and shocks to reduce oversteer, NOT the front ones (which will make the problem worse, the suspension tuning is reversed from real life).

Here's an example: (your current settings, example):

Springs: F10/R8
Shocks: F8/R6

TO REDUCE OVERSTEER, do the following

Springs: F10/10
Shocks: F8/8

I've set max ride height, front and rear and max spring rate, front and rear. No preceptable difference.

I'm specifically referring to the Ford GT, and yes it to can drive very loose with the rear sliding out smoothly, but in the situations described it snaps out violently.

The desturbing thing is that radical adjustments have NO perceptable effect. When I played with chassis settings on the skidpad where changes can be quantified in a steady state condition, there was still no perceptable change in the car's max speed, steering lock, or balance. Tried another car...same.

I'm begining to think chassis adjustments in GT4 are a hoax.

Slow down over that corner. Your trying to turn at the crest of the hill, the faster your going the more the car is going to lift off the asphault. Slow it down Ive been there with that car its the only way.
