Sony know about connection prolems

In a different thread i said i had read about Sony being aware of GT5's connedction problems in an article on IGN, i made a mistake i actually read it on Eurogamer, please see link below:

Main thing is they are trying to fix the issue, i dont get many problems really but i know guys who before spec 2 were golden and now have crazy lag and lots of disconnects regardless of thier connection speeds, if like me you race in a league, 1 guy disconnecting in a race changes the results un fairly and can make leagues/races have less value

I have great speed and reliable connection but still no joy. It is frustrating when I am spending the extra money on DLC on top. Yep, the reason i was looking for anything related to the article i posted is because i race in a league and if someone is consistantly dropping out of races the end results are not really a reflection of anything oher than who didnt disconnect, at this stage its getting beyond a joke, one of my friends has a 80 mg down and 8 mg up connection, before spec 2 he never ever disconnected period, since spec 2 he has lag and lots of drop outs and its the same story for a lot of people. I was looking to see if Sony were doing anything about it, i found that article and thought thank god, ill post it here because im sure people would be pleased to see it, then i saw the date on the article, so wether they are planning to fix these connection problems or not is anyones guess but they must at least be aware they are happening.

I lol'd. I don't think the summary of fixes includes any mention of Networking or server upgrades/patches.

That article is from Last year when GT5 first came out. Since then they have updated the servers. If you are still having troubles 99% of the problem is your ISP. I used to have connection troubles with my ISP(Charter). After calling up and threatening to take my business else where they have stopped throttling me when I am playing GT5.

It really isnt, i my connection to play BF3 a lot and never have a problem, i use it for lots of different games its only when i get to GT5 that disconnects start to happen, my connection is Virgin 50mg down, 5 mg up fibre optic, ive never seen my down run lower than 48 and my up at 4.5

Is this representative of a limit on Sony's servers speeds or is my ISP limiting console bandwidth or something. For the first time, it is occurring to me that my Netflix service through PS3 is spotty sometimes too. Would the quality of Sony's servers affect that as well?

I think that "Throttleing" is definitely possible in this age of seperation of Service and content providers. I will talk to mine and get there explanation.

Can anyone explain to me why my Computer connection speeds don't match the results I get for my PS3' connection test? 15 to 20 meg on speedtest.net and Cnet's bandwidth meters. 2.5 to 5 megs on my PS3 consistently. Duh of course I cant't stay connected on less than 5 megs. Who's fault is it though, My ISP's or Sony/PD. Can Comcast cap a device/Console?

Its funny because for the last week and a half I have been having SEVERE connection issues with my PS3! It will not hook up to our router and if it even does it is slow as molasses! Then if I go into GT5 it will sign me out and not connect. I am so fustrated I want to throw it in the garbage.

Same, I have the 50MB Virgin. I get 45-50MB download but mines only 2MB upload through PC but around 22 and 1.3 according to PS3!

Anyway they might be doing something similar to MW3 where good connections are gimped in order to make it more "fair" but it has actually made bad connections better than good!!!

It's about menu lockups caused by GT5 constant outbound communication. Regard:

GT5's constant communication with the internet is causing all sorts of problems that spill over even into single-player races.

Because GT5 performs online access ... when starting the game and during the various screen displays in GT Mode, unfortunately this online congestion is also affecting standard gameplay

Eurogamer's Digital Foundry, which has first-hand experience of these issues, recalls a "longer than comfortable lag" when navigating the Gran Turismo 5 menus

Notice Regarding the Status of the Online Service

Currently the online service of Gran Turismo 5 (GT5) is experiencing some extreme online traffic congestion.

Because GT5 performs online access not only when participating in online races and using community features, but also when starting the game and during the various screen displays in GT Mode, unfortunately this online congestion is also affecting standard gameplay.

If you are experiencing the following symptoms, we recommend that you temporarily play GT5 without connecting the PlayStation 3 (PS3) to the network.

(A) If you are finding it takes several minutes before being able to perform any actions in the following screens:

Before the start of the opening movie, immediately after launching the game.
At the top screen after the game has started.
In various screens within GT Mode.

(B) Or, when it takes several minutes or more to gain a result when the following operations are performed:

When entering the open lobby, if it takes several minutes or more before the room list is acquired and displayed.
When clicking on an ID in the participant list of a room, if it takes several minutes or more before the menu appears.
When writing on the message boards within Community, if it is taking several minutes or more for your posts to appear.

*Also, some of the following features have been limited intentionally as a measure to temporarily alleviate some of the network traffic. Due to these limitations, you will find that:

The viewing and update of the [Log] in the Community section of GT Mode has been temporarily disabled.
Changes to the Profile may not update in some cases.
Changes to the Friend List may not update in some cases.

Currently we are simultaneously working on several different solutions to improve the network status and alleviate the network congestion as soon as possible. We are expecting to be able to provide a proper online service again soon.

Temporary measures you can take for playing Offline.

The following are procedures for preventing the PS3 from accesssing the network when playing GT5.

Please note the steps introduced here are only temporary procedures you can take until the network conditions are improved.

If GT5 is currently running, please quit the game.
Go to [Settings] -> [Network Connections] -> [Internet Connection] and swtich the selection to [Disabled]
Start GT5.

This was fixed pretty quickly and improved with each update, although some people do still experience some issue with it sometimes (I get the occasional start screen hang of a few seconds, if connected).

It's not an online racing issue (though could manifest as one in addition).

The Ps3 is talking with the nearest Ps3 server, might be cali, might be hong kong. You get to choose your Speed test server and that is why you get different results.
