Sony to reveal PS4 Virtual Reality headset at TGS

Companies have been pushing VR glasses for nearly 2 decades and it has never taken off. Just because Oculus Rift did well on Kickstarter it suddenly means the idea is in vogue again just like 3D.

I would much rather have the core elements of a game improved like campaign length, graphics, physics etc rather than have dev's wasting their time coding for peripherals like the SIXAXIS and Move which kinda went nowhere.

Have you not seen or heard the feedback from people who've tried it? A 3D effect on a flat screen or past VR cannot be compared.

Well I personally don't care for it. I can only see out of one eye with full vision and the other eye is poor, like Vaseline has been smeared across it. So 3D & VR tech is wasted on me and as such important core gaming pillars take a back seat while gimmick stuff gets attention.

I expect the invention of the wheel was pushed for longer than a few decades and had much ridicule from people who preferred carrying things on their back or on an Ox. They liked core values, like legs, and length of legs and the physics of putting a leg in-front of another leg. They had no interest in the fashion for circles.

Some people with only on eye have tried the rift and reported a very good experience, also things like depth and 3D still effective, much like it is when you close one eye, you don't suddenly lose depth perception. This isn't the floaty 3D gimmick. You whole field of view is taken up by the game and you look in game as you would in real life.

The main problem I think is motion sickness, since its so believable, like you've swapped reality with a rendered one, you expect to see your hands. When you move forward, your brain expects you to be walking when you're not. It's been noted that this lessens as your brain adapts but it varies for everyone and some adjust in one session, some take a few weeks to stop feeling sick.

Games seem to have been fairly quickly and easily patched for use with the Rift, so I doubt that too much time will need to go in to coding for this.

VR was always going to be done right at some point. Personally, I think we are finally there (or thereabouts).

Yeah, Oculus will be unmatched imo. Especially now that John Carmack's the CTO of the company. The guy's a genius and has been obsessed with output hardware, resolution, fps, fidelity, and synching his whole career.

Really don't want this to turn into another fad like you mentioned Chromatic. Wish Sony would collaborate with the Oculus people.

If Sony can release a VR headset in either partnership with Oculus or their own it would be amazing. I would love to play GT with one. Would eliminate the need for triple screen setup while improving the experience at probably a fraction of the cost.

Honestly I want to buy a Geforce 660 today, but refused and pre-ordered a PS4 :) Oculus was LAST reason I want the decent GPU, but now I need only maybe 650ti for Dolphin and that's it.

VR for PS4 is my game-changer. Seriously what can be closer to reality than GT7+VR+Wheel? I'm in!

Really looking forward to something like this, a big step up and will certainly make a huge difference in they types of games I like to play.

Yes and it may be immersive an look good if your looking and walking in calm scenery but for fast paced gaming I think its going to overload your brain and mess up your eyes.

Also the motion sickness (which you stated in another post) is a major issue here. I doubt many will want to deal with that disorientating floating feeling for long, especially when you are in a heated situation such as a firefight which is just going to make it worse.

Plus I can just see the hospital cues now for injuries from people falling off the walking pad or swinging their head and smacking it into a piece of furniture.

Peripherals to make gaming feel more real have come and gone and in the end its always come back to people wanting to sit on the sofa and tap buttons. Look at the peripheral crash a few years ago.

You just compared VR glasses for gaming to THE WHEEL..... seriously?

It was the same for the SIXAXIS and Move, why did it end up that very few 3rd party titles ever took it up if it was that straight forward? If things like MW3 didn't use it then you know your feature is in trouble.

I think it'd be great for games with a good input peripheral - like Driveclub with a wheel. It would essentially eliminate the need for a tri-screen setup.

Why would they want to collaborate? Sony's device could be a lot more advanced than the Rift for all we know (if the latest rumours are to be believed it is more accurate). Also they will have total control over the direction they want to take the hardware.

Edit: Latest report.
