Well You take one photo which you think suits the piece of music chosen best, the judge will give a hint of what they are looking for in your shot, then they will decide which one they think suits it the most.

One entry Per person.

Hint:
Look at the distortion in the video and how many things stay the same size while others are distorted

The deadline will be 2 days longer as i will be away on the weekend the comp is supposed to end.

Until 10 Entry's are reached

People will vote for the shots that make it through and once the poll has closed the votes will be collected in as normal, BUT the judge will then award points to their 5 favourite shots in this order:
1st - 5 points
2nd - 4 points
3rd - 3 points
4th - 2 points
and finally:5th - 1 point
So someone might get 20 votes in the poll but only 1 from the judge and the person who got 16 votes might get 5 so they would win.

Nobody's going to get disqualified if it's not exactly like the song. Just try and if you can get any good looking entry, no matter how awkward it is, enter it. 👍

Good point...If we were allowed just to go by what our interpritation of the music was then perhaps you would have got more entries...

I'm not entirely sure, it's a bit hard to make out in that clip, but I think the White Stripes are cool 👍

I wasn't planning on entering as I thought there'd be others with more interesting interpretations on the song, but I did happen to snap this shot when taking pics for something else and thought it might fit. It's very obvious and hardly creative, but may as well enter it seeing as no one else has

If I were feeling more creative I was going to do something with one of those boxy little Japanese mini-vans and enlarge to be over-sized ala Conan's head.

You don't have to make it look like the video. The whole point of the comp was to interpret it as you wish (as far as I can tell) It was never a requirement to make it look like the car in the video. Just be creative.

When's the deadline anyway? If it's until the 2nd, it won't be enough time to have something half-decent, since it's a rules-free photoshop comp, those things take a bit of time to put together, and I have other comps to enter too for which I'm already working on some shots.

Hmmm….there are some tips on the lyrics like “boat” and “mountain turn into the mole”…but, maybe not…

I’ll see what I can come with for this one, but I still have no ideas…

Maybe people could make something inspired by the music instead of directly related to it? So this would be, for me, quite a plain boring shot that just plods along merrily.

Either that or go for a shot with actual white stripes in it.

I'm figuring this comp won't have much success unless rules are kept simple (no free photoshopping) and starts having popular musics, the kind everyone knows or has heard at some point.

I haven't kept with most of the music scene for years (only my favorite bands/artists), so for example this song speaks nothing to me, and it's hard to have a base idea by a song one has never heard and doesn't speak to him in one way or another.
Just a thought. 👍

Well that is one of the options i give when i ask what the winnner wants in the next weeks competition, so it is entirely the judges choice and MINI chose the video for inspiration this week.

Thank you for suggestion Beerzy:tup:, after this week Free Photoshopping will be banned and some weeks i will suggest to the judge that they use music off GT4 or currently in the charts etc.

I don't understand how no rules in photoshopping is more complicated than having specific filters and rules. It's a chance to do whatever you want. You don't have to use every photoshop tool, just do whatever you want to get a good shot. As far as I know those aren't the correct lyrics either. I doubt it's "the dark is one kitten" Surely it's "the doctors weren't kidding?"

How hard is it to pick a car and a track that this song reminds you of and take some pictures. Like I said, it is not judged on how well it matches the theme, just the quality and creativity of the shot. I don't want to sound rude but if you don't want to make an effort to be creative than this probably isn't the comp for you.

That said, it's nice that some people are starting to enter, and with great entries. They are just what I'm looking for.

I said from the very beginning that I'd enter, and I haven't changed my mind.

On the song thing, it's not a matter of imagination, it's what a song reminds you of or if it speaks to you. I was just saying it would be easier to have more entries in if the songs used were really popular, even if it's a 70's song, just as long as it is one that there are 90% chances everyone has already heard at some point in his life, makes it easy to have something pop to mind when heard or remembered.
All in the name of having more entries. 👍
