Apologies if this is the wrong place for this.

I have a PS4 hooked via hdmi to the tv and then optical to the soundbar

Is this the best way?

Both tv and soundbar have hdmi arc ports so should I be making use of that.

Finally do I need to change the aound settings on the PS4? It is presently on whatever the default is (PCM I think). I’m getting sound, just wonder if I should be getting better sound and I know zero about this stuff

I did google it but got a plethora of confusing and varied answers (maybe there is no best way) I only use this tv for PS4 and for hooking up the laptop when I need a large screen for work

Thanks

Matt

The best way is either

PS4 - HDMI - Soundbar - HDMI (ARC) - TV
or
PS4 - HDMI - TV - HDMI (ARC) - Soundbar.

This way the PS4 is outputting full uncompressed audio via HDMI either directly to the soundbar or to the soundbar via the TV. Either way will give you best quality sound. Optical is for older systems where HDMI isn't possible.

Only with the first variant. Most TVs can’t handle uncompressed audio through HDMI arc (unless you have a super high-end one).

Thank you all

So if I went for option 1 it is:

HDMI cable between PS4 and the normal hdmi slot on the soundbar

Then
A second hdmi cable between the hdmi (arc) slot on the soundbar and the hdmi (arc) slot on the TV

I'm running a soundbar on my set up, the bar only has three connections on the back.... HDMI, Optical and USB.

Mine is wired.....
PS4 HDMI > TV HDMI
Soundbar HDMI > TV HDMI (ARC)

Seems to work and sound pretty good.
As far as I remember I didn't touch the sound settings on the PS4
