Yeah, must have have been really depressed after having a no.1 historical site being burned down like that.... :( Curse you Chae!!!!

That's a tragedy. :(

I hope they can at least build the "replica" to be a suitable replacement. It may not be the same, though. Then again, Chartres cathedral burned down and was rebuilt. It may be a rally cry to come together and embrace the traditional Korean culture, even in the 21st century.
Such a senseless act.

Another track in Gran Turismo rendered inaccurate by building demolition...

Ain't that a B. They'd better spray the next one with flame-retardant.

How the hell as the article said could they not defend their top landmark.... jesus its like one bloody building surrounded by a huge roundabout and they could stop one man getting in to burn it down... more to the point why did it take so long to put the blaze out... shows how much they really care till its gone..

are they going to rebuild it or what?

It is a shame...

It's very old wood. It burns quite easily.

They've already said that they'll rebuild it. Perhaps this time they'll replace it with a nice new modern metal gate. That will keep those pesky tigers out better 👍

It doesn't really mean much to me, but I know the feeling.

When the old man of the mountain fell down, I was devistated. (New Hampshire's symbol)

It better be a high gate.

It's just a landmark it's not a pay to enter site or anything, it's not surrounded by armed gaurds. As the article said, homeless people have been using it for shelter. It wouldn't have been hard to have just walked in with a box of matches or something small to start a fire and not get noticed.

I suppose but if it means so much to them they could at least have a guard or maybe lock off the vulnerable areas. Its only the top thats wood, the stones are fine... There are many open area monuments where bits are sealed off but people could still, for example, sleep under it like the Arc de Triomphe.

I think it's kind of nice that we still get to see their image(Kingdome, too...) in our favorite video game. :)
