First of all, I really enjoy this game. I did a couple of races in career and they were alot of fun and challenging. I haven't noticed the bugs really, so the experience is really good. The graphics are a little worse than I expected but still above par. Especially If you consider there's 24 cars all at once and dynamic weather. It's also pretty realistic because I spun off at exactly thesame points as Alonso in Spa this year and Kimi in Australia 2009. BTW the alonso one was also in heavy rain. Such a coincidence, as I don't spin at every other corner. But on to my problem.

I'm having some trouble keeping up with the AI in Spain and I don't know what exactly causes it. I'm doing a career with HRT on Expert mode with all assists off. The other 4 GP's I had a good pace. In Bahrain I actually was 10th but I bumped accidentally into someone and was sent to 18th place (still the onjective hehe). In Australia I had a nice pace but I made a couple of mistakes in the race, which led me to 23rd. In Malaysia I was 17th an din China 16th.

In every Practice I have been like a second faster than Bruno but now only 2tenths or so. And when I'm pushing for a good time it seems the AI are having a breeze and are right on my tail, easily overtaking me on the straight. I already fiddled with my setup a bit (my best time was with the middle setup with the engineer. (Most of time I pick the one-to-last setup) But it's really frustrating me and because it's HRT's home race, the finishing objective is 15th and I'm never going to make that. I have a feeling that it's the game's fault to put in such a difficult objective, and that the AI is inconsistent with pace in Spain, they're going way too fast for me. Maybe I can shave a few tenths off of my time but it's hard. And now, for the eninge mapping thing, there's cruise? It isn't really useful for me. Maybe only in the last couple of laps of a race when comfortably in a position.. But does somebody have any idea how to deal with this? I don't want to give up and get the objective.

One thing you can try right off, assuming you havent' fiddled with it yet, is to set your engine's throttle map to "fast." To do this when you are out on the course press "any direction" (;) sorry just making a funny there) on the dpad, then "up" to select "engine" and the "up" one last time to select "fast."

At Bahrain in TT mode just making this simple tweak helped improve my lap times by about 2". So there should be good potential there. Keep in mind though the engine will wear down faster, but maybe for just this race it is worth it to you.

I just tried it, with the enigne mapping thing, but I can only choose cruise or standard. Maybe it's not available yet in this early stage of career mode?

My engineer says I am purple in sectors 1 and 3, and that I am far off the pace in sector 2. I have a 1sec gap there to my direct competitors. The funny thing is the my first sector time isn't purple at all, it's 5 tenths slower than the 1st time. 3rd sector time isn't visible. That 1 second gap in the 2nd sector is so big. I can't get my head around what I'm doing wrong. I watched a real lap from senna and I'm taking more or less thesame line..

Ah ha, I see. Well I've hardly touched career mode yet so interesting that the engine thing is part of the R&D feature.

Well, you could always try youtube and see if you can find example vids for HRT. Also if you're losing time in S2 it could be related to your wing settings, basically the method is try going both 10% higher and lower and see which seems to work best and then tweak gears and such from there.

I don't know what it is about the Spanish track, but no matter what racing game it appears in(I think it was in GT4 too - or was it Grid?), there are certain corners where the AI always seem to go flat out, but you can't. If you try to do it and keep up, you always end up spinning off. It is a horrendously hard track to set your car up properly on. Anybody else experienced this?

This was the final straw in my career in this game

I run no assists at all and difficulty set to the hardest but the best I could get to was 15th, then I'd pit and the stupid pit bug would put me out in last position. Then I'd get a scripted puncture :-|

Good luck!

I could never qualify properly at Catalunya on F1:CE, I could never match the AI and could only qualify in the bottom 3 of the field. I haven't tried on F1 2010 yet.

It always seems to be the same corners as well. They are very deceiving because they look as if you can go flat out, but you always end up spinning off, and if you slow down to take them, any cars behind you will either catch up quick or overtake you.
It may have the longest straight of any race track, but it is a really annoying track overall.

I never have problems with Catalunya in any game at all, and for the first two sectors im pretty good here, but that final chicane is absolutely dreadful. Dont know if it was codemasters or I just suck, but its impossible to touch the kerbs in the final chicane.

Do you know for sure punctures are scripted? They seem to happen only when your really riding the kerbs hard. But my god they can come at the worst times, i got one yesterday at spa on the penultimate lap.

I actually find Catalunya with the chicane far easier than I did without in games like F1:CE. So I'm kind of happy with it and it still has some sort of flow to it.

But I do miss the flat out ending to the lap, it was the real highlight at what is mostly a high speed circuit. I could never get it perfectly right though in CE.

I'm not sure about scripted but I got a heap of them on my attempts at Spain. I was using the kerbs there a bit but not the dirt. I never got one at Bahrain mind you.

Everything I'm reading suggests that the penalties (variables) for going off track on the tyres is too harsh. Particularly if you have TC and ABS off and haven't adapted to them very well.

Bump...

Did anyone use the first R&D update actually (throttle mapping)? I don't know what's the use of it. Maybe something has gone wrong with the R&D and now I don't have it and that being the cause of me not getting the target?

Adjusting to cruise is only to save fuel or to reduce engine wear. I often use cruise in practice, there take more performance out your engine than you need to, whilst setting up the car and learning the track. Just remember that, if you set the gear ratio's in cruise, you might want to notch them up slightly when you change engine maps to a faster setting.

As for catalunya, I can't keep up with the AI there for some reason, codemasters AI coding for AI speed regulation is appalling.
