Spain international player and Sevilla defender, Antonio Puerta, has died aged 22 after suffering a heart attack during a league game against Getafe CF on Saturday. He was able to leave the field on foot, but collapsed again in the dressing rooms, where he had to be resuscitated. He was moved to intensive care but later died in hospital...

Wow... that's a real tragedy... 22 years old!

He's been the talk of the town since he collapsed three days ago, but very few people knew he'd died... amazing.

I wonder if he had a congenital heart defect without knowing. Gerald Asamoah, a striker playing for Schalke and the German national team, has one but decided to continue his career. We will see what the autopsy brings. You do not die at this age if you are completely healthy.

There seems to be to many footballers having these sorts or problems, Matt Gadsby (I think was his name) did the same during a game at the end of last season. Most famously Marc Viven Foe on live tv.

There was a hungarian, Miklos 'Miki' Feher, did the same who smiled at the camera turned his back and then just collapsed.
Its a real shame, so young, all of them.

Edit: I just heard his wife is ment to be giving birth to there first child within the next month or so.

Was that the guy who played for benfica? Because I saw the tribute video that decided to put the moment when he collapsed in the video and it was horrible.

Also there was a French defender in the dutch league who had a heart problem and died on the field last season.

It's always very sad when a player dies and it's a shame as i've been following sevillia through their uefa cup exploits. :(

Ye it was, i saw that to i thought it would be his goals and that ad then they just put him falling. What made it worse was they put it in super slow mo. :guilty:

It seems quite unbelievable that a player who had to be saved from swallowing his own tongue whilst still on the pitch, was then allowed to walk away rather than to be stretchered off and receive immediate first aid. Sure, they weren't to know that he'd had a heart attack, but collapsing unconscious and almost swallowing your tongue is a fairly strong sign that something is badly wrong. It's ironic that players who aren't even remotely injured are stretchered off routinely, yet Puerta had to make his own way off the field!... Terribly sad for everyone involved... :indiff:

He wanted to walk off himself. They brought one of them golf buggy things on. but he got up and walked on his own.
Edit: Ignore. Just watch a vid on Youtube and it differd to an article.

Very sad. He was actually quite a promising player. He scored a stunner in the UEFA Cup to get them to the final, and he had a killer left foot on him. It's a real shame, and I think the saddest part is that he had a child coming in just over a month.
