Special Conditions - I feel like giving up!

Hi all,

First off i looked around, and i didn't find a thread about this. I did find thread about 200 points in special conditions.

I'm at 90.8% completion of the GT4 now, the closest I've been. Thing is, I've finished every race, except the 'hard level' events, in the Special Conditions section.

Chamonix, Ice Arena, Grand Canyon, Tahiti Maze are all I've left, if I can recall.

I really need help/advice on this guys. I really want the black FGT, and I don't bother about 200 points for this. I've tried the Escudo, but the turbo kicks in way too late for me to actually win this rally events.

Having said all that, I have to admit, I'm useless and I hate rally driving.

Mods, please delete/lock this thread if this topic has already been discussed. Thanks!

It's not that hard really. I've done the whole series (Easy, Medium & Hard) with a stock Subaru STi Spec-C '04. The only things I did to it was gave it an oil change, fitted a 100hp nitrous kit and turned off all the aids (ASM, TCS).

The thing you have to realise is that getting infront is the key, so if you do that with a quick enough start, the main thing you only need to do is defend your lines through the corners.

Like Mafs said: get in front. It's much harder for the AI to give you a 5sec present from behind.
Didn't realise it could be done with a stock Spec C though...

I did it with the lancia delta S4. Sure I only got about... 6 A-spec points per race, but I don't care...

They cheat :grumpy:

Like mafia boy said, you should get in front asap.
On the longer corners I usually used the wallriding technique :sly: and on the hairpins I actually used the brake

But yeah. Just watch your line and make sure you don't get passed.

It's harder than it looks PF, especially on tracks like Grand Canyon Hard, Tahiti Maze against the '03 Subaru WRC. It's just how lucky you get with your opponent.....but you of all people should know my pace when I'm driving in the zone. :sly:

Heh. Nice to know the Excuse-o can't do it all. I've done these races in a Dodge Ram, various Evos and STis, and the Audi S4 I think. I would disagree with mafia boy, these races are pretty tough at the Hard level. Except Swiss Alps and a couple others, perhaps; the rest of them are not easy. Not just because of the pace, but also because of the stupid 5-second penalties the Ai gives us when they hit us.

I've found it best to get ahead of the Ai EARLY if I can at tracks like Grand Canyon, Ice Arena, Tahiti. Get ahead of them, even if it means fender-rubbing or whatever. Just don't get those nasty penalties. Once you're ahead, you're somewhat in control. Brake into hairpins, and get as far inside as you can (without rubbing a fence), this makes it harder for the Ai to be able to wedge into our space, pass us, and possibly give us a 5-second penalty in the process. Block them if you have to. Play a little dirty if you have to (they do, after all).

...And practice practice practice.

I used the Ram for some, but I also used the LM Impreza, which is definitely worthwhile if you are gunning for Grand Canyon. Just get in front and you should be fine as long as you try and pitch the car correctly. I know its not legitimate, but I essentially took all corners at Chamonix and Ice Arena via the wall ride by pitching the back half of the car into the wall and letting the car ease through the corner.

If you want to beat your opponent easily use the Subaru Impreza Rally Car (The latest one). Fully mod it and you will beat your opponent. For tarmac ,such as Tsukba WET and George V, use the Toyota Minolta. It has mental handling and immense acceleration, you may even see them against you. If you don't know where to get it, do Laguna Seca 200 miles.

I assume you mean El Capitan 200 miles because that's where you win the Minolta. Even with the Minolta, you won't go anywhere because the Minolta cannot run on dirt/snow and all the races he says he has left are dirt/snow.

I said it was harder than it looks. :) If I didn't get the right opponent, I'd end up looking at the rear end of the Subaru WRC all day because even with nitrous, it's not a sure thing to beat that particular car. And believe it or not, the hardest track I found was racing at Paris George V, because you're handicapped with S tyres, and the Renault 5 Maxi that you're racing has 100hp more than you, R tyres + a rolling start and you basically have to use a lot of skillful driving to beat that car, more so than you need for Grand Canyon Hard. Bonus of that is it's a 200pt. race.

Yep, that's what I said......best way is to launch like you're doing a 400m dirt drag. Take off and nitrous that puppy to get the lead before the first corner!!

!

Oh I see, got it. Yea the WRC is tougher than the others that show up, you're right.

I think I actually did use RSH or RH tires at Paris/George V and those races were STill hard!

Only the Scooby WRC. The Lancer WRC '03 is actually quite easy to beat.

The only reason I did it was I wanted to see if it could be done. Just a stock Spec-C with nitrous and nothing else. So for around 40k (price of Spec-C + NOS + oil change) I ended up winning around 300k.....maybe a bit more, not to mention all the prize cars and around 4000 A-Spec pts..

Subara Impreza for the dirt and snow, Minolta for the road and wet.

Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car can do pretty much all the events. Any Group C or LMP will do for Tsukuba Wet.

I've tried guys. There's been an improvement, but i would appreciate if anyone could send me or post here any settings for any rally cars, gears, suspension, etc.

I'm really useless in rally conditions...

Remy, I should be back shortly with the set-up I used, I'll need to look for it.

Here it is. I used a 2001 Subaru Impreza Super Touring Car with these Modifications:
Stage 4 Turbo I think is the only one to be bought.

The Suspension Had a Spring Rate of 9/8 (F/R)
Ride Height of 103/105
Shock Bound 5/6
Rebound 6/7
Camber is 2/1
No Toe
Stabilizers at 2/2
Auto Set Trans @ 8
Brake Balance @ 6/4
I used Nitrous but its not necessary.

Downforce is 13/18

LSD all levels at 5
TCS 6 and VCD 50

This is the source of my set-up http://gtvault.com/gt4/setup-view/s_sid::3123/Subaru-Impreza-Super-Touring-Car/

High Powered cars are overkill in these tracks, they are all tight and twisty, take A WRC car, i use the Peugeot 206 WRC and the Toyota Corolla WRC, they have amazing torque and have the short wheelbase that makes them nimble as opposed to Evos and Imprezas.

You can really get them sideways and snap themback in line with ease.

Get ahead in the first minute, because of the poorly thought out "rally" experience in GT4 the dust\snow of the car ahead combined with narrow roads with almost no passing zones will just get you frustrated, so get ahead fast and stay there, sometimes using defensive driving, if the AI hits you and you get a penalty try staying in front of them to block.

Snow events are best run with VERY VERY conservative driving, keep the throttle on the edge of grip without going over. Stick tightly to the apex using the ditches for extra grip from the front wheels(same on dirt) keep the drift angle very narrow dont swing about and kick the tail out cuz you will lose time and possibly your position.

Experiment with Gear Ratios, get the most from your car, usually with turbo cars ill do the tranny trick (setting Final gear to the max, then AUTO gear to the max, and then AUTO gear to 1, then adjusting the Final gear) this keeps the car in the high RPM range where turbo is used.
Remember rally driving is a bit different from grip racing, the turns are to be taken between the early entry of grip and the late entry of drift, right in between.

Reading this thread is a great relief. I thought I was the only one struggling with the Hard races in the Special Conditions. I too am just under 92% and have been for several years. When I kept getting smashed by the AI I lost interest in completing it and now just pootle around in Arcade Mode until GT5 comes out.

I too will try the suggestions on this thread. The loose surface stuff is the hardest for me - Chamonix, Ice Arena (worst track in the game, just ahead of Hong Kong), Grand Canyon etc.

I've never been able to get ahead of the AI to be able to hold an advantage/block them etc. But then again, I have never used nitrous - never bought it for any car I own on the game. That could be the difference between getting ahead and not.....

Thanks for the tips guys!

***EDIT***

I followed these tips and have now finished the game as far as I can see. Yet, it is sitting at 92.5%. What gives? All the races are now finished and won.
