SpinTires - The Ultimate Off-Road Challenge (Demo)

Spin Tires is awesome; I hope development continues smoothly. I found some extra maps available as mods for the demo, they add a lot to the game (make a backup of /Media/Levels/levelUp.stg and replace). Some have rockcrawling slopes built from jagged chunks of pavement, and soft muddy trails snaking a path through the trees (instead of the non-deformable gravel trail). There are extra trucks, too, but I don't recommend those, they tend to be unrealistic and overpowered.

IMO nothing else has reproduced the experience of offroading/crawling/mudding like this before. Thanks to the dynamism of the physics engine, I could spend fifteen minutes rocking my way out of the same rutted mudhole, looking for that last inch that will give the traction I need...when you finally wiggle your way out, it's a victory like few others.

Dammit, I was going to make this thread :P Anyway, something I've found is that when I installed the new demo, it corrupted the original demo (or something, the only things visible were points of light). Then, when I tried to reinstall the original demo, it wouldn't let me :grumpy:

I've downloaded that demo. It's beautiful...
But honestly, I expected first person view and a manual gearbox. Ah, however, that MAZ 535 included in this demo has a hydromechanic transmission, so I guess it doesn't need an MT mode much...

There was a sort of manual mode in the old demo, it had reverse, 'slow', 'fast' and auto. I haven't played the new demo yet. I'm probably asking too much but a mouse-controlled cockpit view similar to Euro Truck Simulator 2 (i.e. so you can look and move to peek out of the window to look at the ground and along the side of your truck, rather than just look around the cockpit) and G27 controls would make it perfect in my opinion. If I had the spare cash I'd be chipping in to Kickstart it.

Oh yeah, there's a Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/358753914/spintires-the-ultimate-off-road-challenge

Only 110 copies of the game at £20 left!

Cockpit view is a £80,000 stretch goal!

According to the FAQ, the G27 will be supported! Awesome!

It's very surreal and somewhat relaxing to just aimlessly amble about in your tank-engined juggernaut, I've found myself spending far too much time playing it  I'd really like this to pull through.

I remember downloading the demo for this waaaay back in production and it was good but very buggy. I'm pledging for this one, it's such good fun and it's nice to support a fairly local developer. 👍

They are adding UAZ to the game. I guess the model is not yet finished.

This seems to be the latest version.

I was playing the demo while they uploaded the new one, closed the game and found an email in my inbox about the update! I'm eager to try out the jeep but the only download available for it right now is pretty slow. :(

I love this game. :D

Downloading the update right now.

:D

I can report that the UAZ is amazing :D Although since it's so much smaller, you can't really throw it at the landscape like you could with the MAZ, lol. That just rode over everything on its 5-foot high tyres :P

You sure can't. Took me about twice as long to get through the terrain.

I'd kill to be able to use my wheel with this in it's current form though.

I managed to get them both stuck, got the UAZ stuck in some muddy grass off the beaten track, tried to use the MAZ to shove it out of the ditch but got that stuck too.

Loving this.

This 469 is sweet :dopey:
According to the ground clearance and the lack of reductors on its axles, I suppose this is a civilian version - UAZ 469B. And the license plates are civilian, too. According to them, this car was registered in Kiev, Ukraine.
The engine sound is pretty realistic - I know how a real UAZ sounds.
Also, I've just noticed - when you switch between RWD/AWD modes on the MAZ, you will hear the driver swearing in Russian! :D:lol:

Awesome I hope the include American trucks!

The game will be modable, so there are loads of vehicles will become available after the release.
But speaking about American cars/trucks (the developers say that events of the game will take place in Russia, circa 1980-90), I'd like to have Studebaker US6, Dodge WC51 and Willys MB first - the famous vehicles used by Red Army during WWII. :)

Also, I've just noticed - when you switch between RWD/AWD modes on the MAZ, you will hear the driver swearing in Russian! :D:lol:

I noticed that too. I much prefer the MAZ for driving with a keyboard, I've got to get my 360 controller hooked up to give it a go.

Just saw this on the developer's VK page:

"🤬, some bears stole my wheel!"

Also, note the hitch missing and frame being deformed. Damage coming to the game soon?

Just downloaded the new demo today. The UAZ 469 is lots of fun, exactly the sort of vehicle I was hoping for in this game. 👍 The new map feels more natural/convincing than any of the maps for the LevelUp 2011 demo, although I wish it was bigger. The time-of-day lighting looks nice, and I like the proposed gameplay concepts described in the help notes (4WD increases fuel consumption, differential locks risk damage). Whatever we'll be doing in the final game, it'll be a gritty challenge.

I'm not a big fan of the current interface or shifting system; the mouse shifting in LevelUp 2011 was kind of a pain, but it's fun when it works. With buttons/keys, I'd prefer more control over shifting. And how come there's 360 Gamepad support, but no USB Gamepad support?

Oooh, nice. I much prefer the current truck to the jeep, it's much more fun to throw around and more of a challenge to navigate through forest areas.

Damage is in the demo already.
There's a guy who told me his MAZ ended up so after he "drove through the trees".

Really? I've thrown the MAZ at enough trees to see it come away unharmed :odd:

But then, I have been forced to run it at absolute-minimum specs for it to run on my laptop :indiff:

I found it fun to get stuck between trees and then try to get free. :)
- We can do it! Just turn over there and... Come on, we're about to do it! Bend this tree and... errrrgh... Don't give up! A little more... come on! Eeerrrgh... Yeah! We made it! :dopey:

And one more thing: there's a mod available. The first and the only for now - a cargo platform for the MAZ 535.

If it doesn't break any rules, I'm sharing the link here: http://vk.com/doc29919836_186586348?hash=8177abff3e1e22af61&dl=44220dbb9cc6442470 (try if it's working).
All you have to do is to move the file from this archive (MeshCache.mhc) to Spintires/User folder, replacing the original one.
