Hey all , ive been searching thru this forum , and i cant find any posts about split screen mode , so im gonna make one .

Im really worried its gonna be the same split screen modes as previous GT games , which ive enjoyed and all , but its getting boring , one of the reason im a GT fan is that they always were the best at split screen , me and my friends had alot of good times with this mode .

But after playing PGR 4 with ONLINE split screen and offline split screen where you can add Computer controlled cars(Bots) , 1 Vs 1 in GT5p gets kinda boring .

I been searching the net for any clues about GT5`s split screen modes , but i find nothing , only thing we know about it is that we will be able to play split screen but what modes , same old 1 vs 1 ??? and nothing more ??

Im hoping we will be able to add computer controlled cars , will add alot of action to the the split screen races , instead of driving against your friend you could actully race with your friend , ofc you can do this online too, but not all of your friends owns a ps3 and some people like me for example , likes to play gran turismo in the same house/room as others , great atmosphere . Split screen drift and drag races would be awesome too . Also im hoping for online split screen , but thats like hoping for peace on earth lol.

So little info on split screen
Any split screen modes you guys and gals would like GT5 to have ? or anything you hoping for :P ? Maybe online split screen like me LoL ! :D (GT7 ... MAYBE)

I don't use it , but I did , well I was hoping for that Split Screen gets a SINGLE SCREEN replay.. but it did not..

If PD changes replay for Splitscreen to one screen, I will use it more for Photoshoot if possible as well by saving Replay..

Other then that nothing for me.. 1vs1 is good enough for me.

I would like to point out to both Da-Bomber and Ghost-Neo that you should read the AUP, especially this part.

with current technology in use they could use the 120 tv's and 60 FPS glasses so that both people racing in the same room can both have full screen.

for those who dont know, this tech was shown with Madden, (i think) so that players could both choose thier plays without the opponent seening what they are choosing.

TI's DLP technology creates a 3D image as well as the DualView technology using variations on the same effect. Both technologies requires special glasses to work, with prices ranging from about $50 to $150.

The 3D technology slightly offsets the image from the television, so that the glasses interpret a 3D effect. Dual-view offsets the image in terms of time, synchronizing the TV's signal with each pair of glasses. Each DLP display projects images at 120 Hz. But DualView switches back and forth between views, one perspective per hertz. At the same time, the glasses switch on and off, blanking out the other perspective. The effect, according to TI, is that one viewer sees one image, while the other sees the second image. The two images could represent opposing viewpoints in a game, for example, or a second TV channel. (In the latter case, one viewer will have to use headphones to hear the selected audio.

The technology could prove to be interesting enough to warrant some game development. Today, players using on an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 must split the screen into two separate windows to play against one another, assuming they're using the same screen. This can be a problem in a football game, for example, where both players are selecting their opposing plays at the same time, or even in a first-person shooter, where players can cheat by using the other screen to determine where the other player is.

According to Kunzman, TI doesn't need to provide an API to software developers to allow them to take advantage of the technology, just the display technology. Outputting a Dual-View ready screen, from a software developer's point of view, won't be that difficult than designing for a split screen, he said.

Considering there has just been a reminder about the AUP, the following posts without capitals, missing full stops and spelling mistakes really take the biscuit.

Im guessing it may have something like that. Even adhoc mode in gtpsp allows a player to send an ai racer in there place.

What we need is splitscreen, the ability to take it online. Bots are a must. But with splitscreen the framerate may have to be lowered, or far off textures may have to 'pop-in' like on older games, like in Forza 3 :sly:

Developers these days think people have no friends. Online is usually limited to single player, but games like Halo 3 have shown that 4 players in a room playing online can work. In a driving game i think 4 players would be a bit much, but 2 player online would certainly be possible, but doubtful in GT5. And offline multiplayer desperatly needs bots. We have seen games like Call of Duty completely flop in splitscreen due to the lack of bots. Bots would be useful online aswell, so those designers were just lazy. PD already have AI racers in GT and arcade mode. Incorporating them into splitscreen should not be hard (with the graphical implications i mentioned, i'm sure people don't mind a slight framerate drop for a better gaming experience)

So why do I not see a moderator title under your name? Oh probably cause you are not one, let them do thier job and try not being such a troll! Back to the op; Splitscreen with bots for me!

Ash32 did the right thing to tell the new members of GTPlanet things of the AUP. It is not like everyone reads the AUP to any website.
All he is doing is just clarifying to newer members so they will not get a infraction or get 'BANNED'.
Back on topic the Split Screen has room for improvement like adding AI cars to races or even make Co-op mode for a endurance race with the La Sarthe or other long races. Just an idea.💡

So which would you rather happen?
A kindly existing member gives a friendly warning in a thread which many can see and act upon?
Or 2 new members are handed private warnings by the staff?

With all the new people around here recently it's a help to us if people within the community do a little to help the newbies settle in. 👍
I'm not suggesting you go out of your way to privately moderate any posts you see, and if it's a serious AUP violation, don't hestitate to use the report button to bring it to the staff's attention, but you shouldn't chastise someone for helping out with a simple rule like this.
He has a very good point, not everyone on this forum speaks English as a first language, and therefore we ask that everyone posts to the best of their ability so it's easier for the general populus to comprehend everything that they're reading.
We're a lot more strict than other forums on this matter because of this.

Knock off the attitude, and remember also that personal attacks, such as directly accusing another member of being a "troll", are also forbidden by the AUP.
Capisce?

To be honest there shouldn't be that much of a graphical loss if they include a few (let's say 4) bots in split screen.

Sure they've got to calculate 2 control inputs, and 2 cameras, but the camera output to only half the size they usually would, so the LOD doesn't have to be as high as in single player. Not only that, but the bot calculations for 4 of them are more than offset by the fact that there's not 15 of them.

Unless it's some problem with the SPU layout, but considering what games like U2 and Heavy Rain have been doing, that might not be the case.

Less cars on the track would be the simplest way to do it. But i would love a splitscreen race with 10+ bot cars :D

To emphasize what some others have already expressed:

I really hope that PD recognizes the use of a SINGLE SCREEN replay for SPLIT SCREEN races. My brother and I (big fans of great racing rivalry battles, a la Villeneuve vs Arnoux), would always do split screen races and then watch the SINGLE SCREEN replay on GT3....

To my disappointment, THIS WAS UNAVAILABLE in any GT after GT3.....

WHY, PD?!?!?

Probably my favorite thing about the GT series is how realistic and 'broadcast-like' the replays are.... I mean, we used to watch our split-screen race replays on the single-screen and just enjoy it as if it was a GREAT real-broadcast racing battle (which is very rare in racing these days, unfortunately).

PLEASE PD, bring back an option for SINGLE-SCREEN replays for SPLIT-SCREEN races!!!!!

Here here! 👍 I was hugely disappointed they took this out from GT4. They also removed the ability to put race tyres on road cars in split screen, which led to an interesting race where myself and my friend both went off at turn 1 of Motegi as the sports tyres couldn't cope with the power of our tuned-up cars :grumpy:

I'd love to have the option for bots in split screen - preferably customisable too rather than the Prologue arcade slider - which just doesnt work IMO.

4 player split screen for a bit of party playing on the bigger screens people have now.

Gotta be better than 4 players on one keyboard and a 14" b&w tv for Dunjunz.

Thanks for the heads up I definately don't want to get banned.

The single screen replays are definitely interesting and possible but I'm afraid online or AI split screen won't happen.

My concern is that I've been racing in split screen quite a bit myself and I never saw any difference in the graphics, only maybe that it switches to a low LOD faster than single-player. Normally the graphics in split-screen are considerably worse, since the game has to render 2 completely different scenes. That doesn't seem to happen in Prologue and together with the lack of a cockpit view and the constant tearing, I'm afraid it's using all the RSX has to offer already. This means that adding more cars, either for online or AI, is probably not possible without significant frame-rate drops that would render the game unplayable.

It would be great but I don't think it's gonna happen.

I don't really like playing racing games in splitscreen... the downgraded graphics and changed aspect ratio throws me off. But playing FPS splitscreen, I love bots. So yeah, I guess if you did play splitscreen racing a lot, bots would be nice.

GT PSP has bots when playing multiplayer. GT5 should have it too.
Just hope they atleast have the same old split-screen, as many games are killing it off.
