I don't know about non-American or non-Canadian racing series, but during a stock car race here in America when somoene wins or out of the race, ever hear of all the sponsorship going? Sponsorship money can be important because it can help pay off all sorts of bills while racing and can sort of enhance exposure on TV and on the Internet. For such reasons, NASCAR is so successful. Look at it, folks. These are some sponsors that have been official sponsors of NASCAR: Craftsman, Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Nextel, UPS, FedEx, etc. Some racing series have little sponsors and don't really show off the sponsors a lot. Maybe you all in America can remember a Texaco commercial which featured the Texaco stock car and had all sorts of TV features sponsored by Texaco. But if you look at something like Grand-Am, Rolex Sports Cars, ALMS, FIA World Rally, or maybe even the JGTC, you'll see little sponsorship in commercials. I don't know. Maybe you don't see sponsorship being thrown around every such way in such series. I don't think that if the YES Network Porsche crashed by one of the Alex Job Porsches that one of the drivers would say "I'd like to thank the YES Network for all my stuff, Porsche, and all our great sponsors..."
As of the time I was typing this (4:33 PM 2/20/05), "The Big One" happened at Daytona. But amid this, this thread is about sponsorship in racing. Reply now if you wish to begin this discussion.
