As you know I'm far from an accomplished photographer but like many of you I do enjoy snapping away. Well seeing as I broke out the camera in what seems like a age, I thought it only appropriate to create my own thread of pics.

I'm not going to post past images as I have no wish to bore you with old hat stuff, but decided just to point you to my signature here on GTP which provides a link to my site which in turn houses my past work.

I will start by showing Sundays shots off, granted they are of very dull and uninteresting subjects, my technical ineptitudes withstanding I understand some of the colours and framing may be off too, but all in all out of a few shots I've taken I find these to be the better selection, and I have also entered the Weekly comp too.

Some quick shots with the Tamron, hand held at 200mm with no IS and through a dirty dining room window.

It's gonna blow!!!
Really, it looks as it's about to pop any second. Damn, that's a fat bird.

I like these pics of the bird, they're better than your previous ones (imo).

Only one thing, though. 3 pics of the same (or at least similar) bird.
Nevertheless, my favourite is the 1st one because of the contrast and the overall image composition.

The other 2 are cool, but very similar. Plus (though it may be because of the monitor I'm using now), it looks as there's not enough contrast. Just a bit would make it stand out nicely.

Btw, what camera are you using?

The last one works for me. You get a good feeling of DOF and the bird is well exposed. The bird is a little dark in the first shot but the composition is spot on. Great stuff.

Yeh I hear ya. I'm not sure contrast is a problem as it looks fine to me, but again that could be my mac. It's the same bird. TBH I haven't been out with the camera for a very long time, simply for the fact that I've found the limits of the lenses. I'm using a Canon 400D. The lenses I have are the kit lens and a very poor Tamron lens.

That's no excuse. Tait uses a pinhole camera!

I know what you mean however, it can be disparaging using a sub par lens. I put up with the 400D kit lens for a long time before I forked out for a better camera body and L series lens (best darn money I ever spent however).

I Know and I really admire Tait for that kind of stuff. His ability to make such beautiful images, but that isn't my type of photography. I wouldn't be able to even have an eye for the stuff he does. Im Love horticulture images, so for me this is the road or path I want to go down, but the Kit i have at the moment has its technical limits, I really want the new 5D Mrk II but I just don't have the funds. so for the short term the 400D is going to have to do. as soon as I've saved enough then maybe splash for the 5D and some lenses.

The only reason I got the 400D in the first place was so i could dip my toes in and see if it was for me, if not then I would still have a nice camera but not have the huge layout of something more expensive. I hope to one day make money from photographs, but till then I just need to keep practicing.

I really want to be just like my photograph Idol Clive Nichols LINK
