Star Wars: Best Lightsaber Battle....Three Categories

Ok, I thought of a nice way to evaluate the lightsaber battles in Star Wars. Now this is only in the 6 movies. Nothing about the books, animated shorts or any of that.

I was going to make a poll for just "best lightsaber battle" But then I realized that there's more then one category for these battles.

For it to be a light saber battle, light sabers have to cross or touch each other at least once. So Obi Wan chopping off arms in Episode IV or the big Jedi Battle in Episode II doesn't count

The three categores are

1) Most fun to watch
2) Best technical execution
3) Most significant to the storyline.

So post what your feelings are. I think the first two will get a fairly unanamous decision from most...the fun part will be discussing number 3

• Qui Gon Gin vs Darth Maul first fight (Episode I)
• Qui Gon and Obi Wan vs Darth Maul (Episode I)
• Anakin/Obi Wan vs Count Dooku
• Yoda Vs Count Dooku (Episode II)
• Obi Wan/Anakin vs Count Dooku(Episode III)
• Obi Wan vs General Grevious (Episode III)
• Mace Windu vs Emperor (Episode III)
• Yoda vs Emperor (Episode III)
• Anakin vs Obi Wan (Episode III)

1. Yoda vs Count Dooku in Attack of the Clones

2. Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi vs Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace

3. This one is tougher..... there are several good picks
But I'm going to go with Luke vs Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine in Return of the Jedi (or Luke and Vader vs Emperor, depending on your perspective)

I'm going to agree with Boundary for the most part.

1. Yoda vs. Dooku

2. Maul battle

3. It's a toss up between Obi Wan vs. Vader for the first time in episode 3 and the "I am your father" battle in 5. I'm going to go with the Empire Strikes Back on this one, because what built darth vader in episode 3 was a variety of things spread out over the past, and in episode 5, all of the significance was concentrated right into the battle.

1. Yoda vs. Dooku

2. (not sure I understand this category) Obi Wan vs. Grevious

3. Obi Wan vs. Darth Vader (Episode IV): It allowed Obi Wan to follow Luke around throughout IV-VI and help him; and while it probably wasn't necesary for them to escape, it was important for the previously mentioned reason.

Qui Gon and Obi Wan vs Darth Maul (Episode I).

2) Best technical execution

Anakin vs Obi Wan (Episode III).

3) Most significant to the storyline.

Anakin vs Obi Wan (Episode III). There wouldn't be a Darth Vader if this hadn't taken place.

Only battle that I actually thought was cool was the one in Episode I, "Qui Gon and Obi Wan vs Darth Maul". What a battle that was. Obi Wan played by Ewan Mcgregor is my favorite Star Wars character, and Darth Maul was my favorite villain, so that made the fight even more special for me, and makes it qualify for the categoy 1, 3, and maybe even 2.

1. Anakin vs Obi Wan (Episode III) - It's just when Anakin attempts to jump over Obi but instead get's owned. Get's me chuckling everytime.

2. Obi Wan vs General Grevious (Episode III) - Must have been strange for Ewan to train for.

3. Mace Windu vs Emperor (Episode III) - Well it shows how Anakin finally secum to the dark side, so I'd think it's pretty important, as for Mace Windu and The Emperor, meh.

Anakin vs Obi Wan (Episode III). There wouldn't be a Darth Vader if this hadn't taken place.

I'm going to disagree with you on this. Anakin was already Darth Vader before Obi Wan and Padme even showed up. It was the most important part of Anakin's life, but it was not the most important part of Star Wars.

Although this isn't really in your list, Obi Wan vs. Darth Maul - Ep. I, after Qui Gon got killed. You have to wait with Obi Wan behind the doors before hell is unleashed. Ewen Macgregor handles a lightsabre better than anyone else.

Or episode IV, Obi Wan fights Vader in Episode IV, and Vader beats him, but just as Vader goes for the killing blow Obi wan sort of, dematerialises.

Personally I can't recall most of the fights in Episodes I and II, the most important one for me was Luke v Vader in Episode V, when Vader chops off Lukes hand but doesn't kill him and then tells him he's his dad. I also think Episode V had the best ending, completely drove the plot forwards and it wasn't a look we've saved the day piece of cheese like Episode VI. And no Ewoks.
