What car/cars would you recommend a beginner start with to learn and get better at driving and becoming competitive? Suggest cars from different classes as you progress. Thanks

I’d start with the old alpine I think a110 n100. Super fun at Tsukuba. Second the Toyota 86 maybe n200.
I pretty much liked those also the Toyota 2000gt. I drove these stock before getting into faster cars.
Good luck!

The Gr.4 4c is a great car to learn how to properly be fast. It’s not great on straights, but super good and sensitive at turns. You have to really adapt and learn how to be quick and precise when cornering.

Isnt the vast majority of the racing between N300-N600 usually?

Surely then high performance cars of various layouts best like the different ages of Skylines Porsches and such? Throw in a few rwd platforms like the RX7 maybe the Mustang Camaros, granted you will be gifted many many versions of these so I would suggest you buy as little as possible and see what is given to you.

eg. I bought a 911 991 and got given 3 of then thru the ages.

Both rx7s
Very hard to drive fast and keep the rear end in check but very rewarding. If you can drive these fast you can drive any car better.

Ok, I'll start with the lower powered cars that I have in my garage. I'm still going through the circuit experience and the missions, I should get a lot of cars for completing each phase. Thanks for all the reply's. I have another question, my DR and SR won't change until I have a few online races and depending on my results right?

I think if you’re just beginning, a good way to get a feel for braking, acceleration and just basic driving without spinning off into the wall at each turn, go with a FF car N100 or 200. Any make with front wheel drive will do. Play in arcade mode until you have the feel for it, read the proper way to tune in the forums. Huge help just knowing what makes the car behave certain ways.

Correct. And don’t expect dramatic changes after a few races. It takes a lot of time and practice.

Porsche Cayman Gr4
Honda nsx Gr3
Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Amuse S2000 GT1 or Ferrari Laferrari ( if possible, as it's quite expensive ) for N class

Use these cars with only ABS on. You will suffer, but eventually you'll learn and become better and competitive.

Yes I've completed the driving school. I'm currently working on the circuit experience.

MikeV27, I see your using the G29 + shifter, I'm planning on getting one, how is it?

Take the Jaguariiiiii E-Type and drive it with no TC and turn of the ABS :D now on a seriously note take the Toyota GRMN '16 in the N200 class really It's a easy car to drive with .

Most of the recommended cars here handle great and a perfect for easing into the control of the game. That being said I think you would get better faster by using a front wheel understeering mess of a car like the Ford Focus ST and trying to trail brake with it. You have to throw the weight so hard to the front wheels to make that car turn-in, that mastering it will make cars like the Cayman feel like they're gliding into the turn.

The g29 is not the most expensive wheel, not the fanciest but is the one that has beneficied the most after the last updates. The new tyre model and the new suspension adjustments make the wheel worth. I have the shifter but I save it for cars under N500, because is not competitive, is fun and rewarding, but not competitive.

Also, if you want to learn to drive you must watch Kie25 YouTube channel and also Tidgney. They are a must. I basically got my S/S thanks to both.

And whenever you feel frustrated because things are not going as they should, remember that in racing the opponent to beat is yourself. Driving is for everyone, racing ain't.

Welcome!

I'm not quite good enough for the series races yet. But when I started I "signed" with Toyota for the Manufactures Series and "borrowed" a Gr.4 (86) and Gr3. (FT-1) car. Details here - https://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/gtsport/fia2018/detail/

If you're like me and a fan of a particular make, in my case Toyota, then you might as well sign. If you are still undecided then you may want to try the cars out first.

For Gr. 3/4 races I use these cars to set a base time and get a feel for the track. Then try to better that with other cars I have. They are my top mileage cars.

I'm really happy with it. I use it maybe 6-10 hours a week on average but I've had no problems with it whatsoever after almost a year of owning it, just plug it in and it works. It also looks and feels like it's made from quality materials. The shifter is alright but I don't use it that much because most of the cars I use are paddle shift anyway. It's definitely not the best wheel out there but it's the best bang for your buck. My next wheel will probably be another Logitech whenever they release a new one.

If I were you I'd wait until black friday to get it, I did that and got it for 40% off, came out to $336 CDN with taxes. It might be even cheaper this year.

You need to get good stand though, I bought this one and this chair to go along with it and it's pretty much the perfect setup if you have to put it away when your done. It's also comfortable which is the most important thing.

I know a proper wheel stand / racing cockpit would make me more comfortable, but will it make me faster?

I've been using a rickety old tv tray to mount my wheel and sitting in a folding camping chair from Wal-Mart since I got my G27 for GT6 (still using on GTS with a DriveHub).

I've had my eye on this for a while, but I've never been able to pull the trigger.

That's exactly what I plan to use ((TV tray and chair) until I can get a playseat challenge.
