elrousso, exciting race you had there, enjoyed the race report. Takes a lot of work but keep on writing as you complete more enduros. 👍

Thanks Vash666, I've just finished the Roadster enduro, so I'll be writing this one up next, though the race wasn't as entertaining as the Grand Valley one...

I went up to Lv27 yesterday (as a result of winning the Roadster 4hr), so the way to Laguna Seca is now open... Anybody think of a car I could use there ? I got some ideas, but still...

I took this list from the stock car thread in GT4 forums. The race is pretty much the same as before so this list should give you some more ideas for good racing. Remember to adjust the tyres though as the AI runs on sport softs in GT5 compared to race hards in GT4.

This was great fun to read.

Endurance races were, by far, my favourite part of the old games. It really gave me a sense of ownership with the cars I chose. Much more than a 5 lapper here and there.

And, I just unlocked this race last night, and was really excited to try and figure out what car to use.

I'm thinking about going with the older premium evo, but I was worried that it might be too good and not give enough of a challenge.

Thanks mate ! The Merc was actually one of my first choices, but I saw someone did actually try it with this car, so I wanted to use a different one. What was your set-up like ? How many stops did you have to make ? The power and weight must've been quite similar to my Focus' (you were probably lighter though IIRC), but being a rear-wheel drive car must be quite different from the Ford's FF layout...

The rear-wheel drive did give me some trouble in the beginning, hence the reason it took more than an hour to catch the first place. I kept loosing the backend in the S-bend before the pitstrech :).
I upped the hp to around 275 and lowered the weight to just over 1200 kg, plus I installed the cheapest sportssuspension. I made two stops. One after 22 laps, and one after 50 laps. I think the real reason I won was because the AI waits too long to pit. The leading RX-7's lap times dropped dramatically at one point, which meant I could catch like 10 seconds a lap.

Thanks for the list, I remember seeing it when I was doing GT4 enduros, but I totally forgot about it, of course it's giving me good suggestions for cars to try.

Good luck when you try it, but I think you may be right about the Evo being a little too powerful for the competition, unless the NSXs are giving you a hard time :sly:

I think the real reason I won was because the AI waits too long to pit.

Actually I think the AI has got the same "problem" as in previous games (read : GT4) when it comes to endurance races, from what I could see in the two enduros I raced for now, the AI cars completely refuel when they enter the pits, and since they go in when they're leaning towards an empty tank, the time it takes for the refilling to 100% is simply too long, and when they go out with a full tank, they are heavier and thus slower.

so, wich are the best tires to start?? and in the first stop, i should change tires to...?

plz help, i had really bad problems in enduro races ON gt4, i used to start with soft tires and in the early laps i get out of tires!!!!

nice report!!!

The tires last longer this time around, I seem to remember some one posting about this. He did a test of racing hards against racing softs, and the wear was pretty identical...

Nice writeup.
Did the race myself today in an Integrale:

322 hp / 1350 kg, sport softs.
Fastest opponent was a RX-7 Type RS. I was faster, but after 20 laps my tires were completely shot while he kept going and going and going... The extra pitstop made it really interesting. Saved myself over the finishline 9 seconds ahead :nervous:

Nice race you seemed to have there Verbal, at first I thought the 322hp of the Integrale would be too much for the competition but it went pretty close in the end, congratulations on your win ! Might I ask how faster than the RX-7 were you ?

Varied a lot during the race. Right after the first pitstop there was a phase where I was gaining about 5s a lap on him (running 2:14s), on shot tires he was sometimes gaining 2s on me.
I didn't want to switch to racing tires and other than the power hike I tried to do not too much tuning to keep it feeling like a street car. As the stock car however understeers like a stoned opposum on rollerskates, I did get the adjustable suspension, turned spring and damper rates back down to stock values and started to tweak from there. To stop it from eating its front tires I also put in a VCD and dialed in a heavy RWD bias (with the added benefit of some power oversteer if you feel like it). Clutch, flywheel, gearbox etc. is stock. No aids except ABS 1.
