Yo all, i have seen a steering wheel in a second hand shop and im thinking of buying it on thursday, however im not sure which kind of wheel it is, and neither does the shopkeeper, all we know is that it is definitely for ps2, and it is a Logitech, will this be compatible with gran turismo 4 or does it have to be an actual " GT Force pro "?

If someone could reply to this thread by thursday it would be appreciated, as i dont want to waste my money.

thanks in advance

If it's meant for PS2 it *should* work. Every PS2 wheel made by Logitech works. Some PC wheels don't. If it's black and blue it's the Driving Force and it will work. If it's all black it's the Driving Force Pro and you definitely should get it.

And if all else fails, you can always try selling it. Not the preferable option though.

take a picture of it if you can and post it up here
we could probably identify it and tell you

List of GT compatible wheels from the Steering wheels forum

How do you know it's meant for the PS2 if you don't know what wheel it is?

in a second hand shop

I'd hazard a guess because it has no box or instructions. Also, that list seems out of date, as they don't list the G25, and google tells me it came out in late '06.

Be careful though, I've only ever used one wheel (sorry, don't recall the brand as I hurled it away in disgust shortly after getting it, also second hand) and it was utter crap. Perhaps because it was made with a different game in mind. However, Logitech seems to be the best company for this, so if you're really strapped for cash it could be worth a gamble.

On the other hand, the fact you're on gtp asking about this suggests you are somewhat serious about the game, so should probably not go second-hand for this sort of thing.

Maybe try to find a new DFP (Driving Force Pro) instead of risking money by buying from a source with no warranty or anything. The first page on google tells me 'from $85', but I dunno if these are Aussie or Seppo dollars, would suspect the latter.

Good luck amigo.

It must have a PS2 connector for him to know that it's PS2 wheel. If it has a USB connector, then it could be for PC also.

If it does have a PS2 connection, then it's an old wheel and should be in that list.

Yeah, but the one I used is not (IIRC) on the list, it had something like the Ferrari emblem on it and was bloody awful and was clearly made for PS2 (though may not have had a PC connection when given to us). Maybe Turbomaster or something? Also the fact that it was crap may have had to do with the 2nd-hand status, so I probably shouldn't malign the product without proper info. I don't know about these things so should probably step back from this debate to avoid confusion.

It is all black with a logitech logo in the middle i know its for ps2 because i have seen the connector on it, i will take a picture tomorrow and post it up here. thanx anyways

I've seen that wheel in a shop around here, and it's actually a PS1 wheel (if we're on the same page).
The paddles had a travel of what seemed like a kilometer, and it had the Ferrari emblem in the middle, all black.

I bought the steering wheel after all, its not what i expected from a wheel, but i was warned about that before i bought it. its extremely difficult to use, and i have noticed that i have to turn the wheel fully to go through simple chicanes such as the on on Tokyo R2426, i can go through that at full throttle in my formula gran turismo on the DSC, but not no more lol, this is probably just me being new to the steering wheel though.

I have still no idea what kind it is, but ill upload an image ( well, I'll try anyways lol )
