steering wheel probs after no use for a year

I bought one of the driving force pro logitech wheels when they first came out and after doing my thing with GT4 I got bored and put it up. The wheel hasn't been touched for aprox a year and now that I want to use it of course it dosent work anymore. it is flashing the left led though for some reason and it litterally wont do anything beyond that. The right led is solid. any ideas what is going on? did logitech implant one of those chips that self destructs after the warrenty goes out? LOL I did chaeck the power supply and found it to output the required 24V, I even cracked the case and made sure the power was getting to the little pcb board through the ps connector, which it is, but it still wont do anything but flash a led.

Is it calibrating going from one stop to the other ? If you unplug the power supply can you rotate the wheel by hand ? Does it feel smooth or hard to turn ?

PhM

Maybe its because the usb was dusty? Thats what the problem was with my DF when I got it on sunday. I had never used a USB port and it was so dusty, that you couldn't see the connector pin-thingys.

the wheel won't calibrate and is kind of hard to turn. like it is when it is off but it never locked during the full 900* rotation. I can hear the gears spinning.

well I was able to do a little bit of testing and still can't figure out what is going on here. maybe someone else can help out?

I did find that without the usb connected (power is connected) that the wheel is much harder to turn but is turnable. with the usb connected it turns like it should be without any force feedback.
I have checked to make sure that the power is at least getting to the main board inside there which it is. +24V

I have contacted logitech and they basicly said that without a warenty I am basicly sol. I can send it in but by the time they fix it and send it back I could have bought a new one, or two.

I am at a total loss here guys and need some help.

Is the steering wheel centered when you start the game?

If I manually put it in that position.

I can get the left led to quite flashing by moving the wheel form lock to lock. sometimes it will jsut stay on and others it will shut off entirly, but the wheel is still non responsive during any game play. like it isnt being reconigized at all.

ok i just did some testing of my own on my wheel. I would wiggle the power wire and it would seem to work then stop working. So I assume it has something to do with the power. But i opened it and checked myself the soldering points, none of them are messed up or loose.

see I can't even get that much out of mine. I am starting to wonder if the board itself is fried somehow. again logitech and their chips, as soon as the warenty goes so does the product.

hey crazy i just wanted to update my results. What i did was let the dfp settle for a couple of hours unplugged from the USB, then i left the ac adapter in but unplugged it from the outlet. That pretty much fixed it. It definitly is a power problem.
