Hi all,

Bit of an annoying problem has popped up on my g25 after having not used it for a few months. Basically whenever I am playing it now the leather on the wheel feels sticky and after some use my hands are basically black. This didn't occur when I last used my wheel so I don't really know what has changed in the 3-4 months i didn't use it.

I have scrubbed the leather with some water and a rag which has reduced the problem but it is still there.

Anybody have this happen? Solutions?

May just have to swap the wheel but to what? I want to maintain similar dimensions but at the same time it isn't worth spending 200 on a new wheel when I can probably replace the G25 for that much.

Otherwise maybe retrimming the wheel is the most cost effective option?

Never had such problem here... If nothing cures it, maybe some thin grip tape?

Try some leather cleaner, Once you get it clean use some leather sealant on it.

If you cant clean it up you might consider getting an adapter (chilicoke has them) for a larger 270mm wheel (think momo or sparco). Or find someone near you who's swapped wheels already and buy their old wheel.

I've got an old G25 wheel i'd give to you if you were closer.

The reason for the black is the oil from your skin. The reason you didn't notice before you was rubbing it of as you drove. The solution is simple clean your wheel with alcohol(the rubbing kind Isopropyl Alcohol not the drinking kind). This will remove all the black use an old rag as the rag will be real black. Clean it several times. As your cleaning it it will feel sticky until after you get it clean and it dries. I've done this quite a few times as I've had my G25 since they first came out.

Wow...

No.

Don't use alcohol to clean the leather.

If you want to clean the leather, then go buy some leather cleaner.

[EDIT]

Actually...

I had always heard not to use alcohol to clean leather, because it will dry it out and also remove the dye, but after having googled the question, I have seen plenty of recommendations of a 50/50 alcohol/water solution to clean it.

I'd still go with an actual leather cleaner, but it seems alcohol isn't actually a straight up no no.

Thanks guys. It seems to have actually rectified itself after some further use. No more sticky leather and no more black hands.

Use wd-40 and a rag. It works on vynil steering wheels too. Just let it dry thoroughly other wise youll wish for the stickyness.

not really because someone else will need this info and now because of me the op and anyone else now has the info for future reference.

Of course, was just funny to me because of the time difference between your posts (7min). Didn't mean it in a bad way 👍
