This is a thread series for the seasonal time trials that focuses on completing the challenges (i.e. beating the gold target times) with stock versions of the cars. This means that instead of maximizing your PP with upgrades and focusing on getting the fastest laps on the in-game leaderboard, you are attempting to complete the challenges with the bare minimum amount of 'car' and money-spent as is possible.

With the new more open ended format means that part of the challenge will be finding a stock car that has the lowest PP or lowest price depending on your view. It is also difficult to predict which types of tires a car will come with before purchasing.

Warning: Some of these challenges are getting to be extreme and should be approached with caution! :banghead:

In order to participate your car must be stock.

1) A stock car is essentially any car as it is when purchased from the dealership or won as a prize: it will have had no modifications, added parts, or adjustments done that affect how the car performs.
2) No oil changes are permitted: if you have had an oil change you must wait until the effects of the HP boost have been removed by driving over 300 km.
3) You must use the original tire type that came with the car, unless dirt or snow tires are required.
4) No changes to any “Car Settings” are permitted: they must ALL be left at their default values. [Note: cars that come with Fully Customizable Suspension that were purchased or won prior to patch 1.11 must have the suspension settings restored to default in order to be updated with the new stock suspension settings.]
5) No SRF or ASM is permitted: other “Driver Assists” are permitted.

Basically, the ONLY changes you may make to a car include: painting the car and changing a car’s racing number. Any other changes means your car is not stock.

Stock A-Spec Seasonals #10:

Beginner Level Non-Race Car Challenge: High Speed Ring - 450 PP - SH
Intermediate Level Racing Car Challenge: Deep Forest Raceway - 500 PP - RH
Expert Level Non-Race Car Challenge: Nurburgring Nordschleife - 550 PP - SS

The Stock Seasonal Spreadsheet:

A few members have begun a leaderboard of sorts where individuals will be able to input their info into a public document. This is not so much a competition as a way to compare all sorts of data. At this point the data that is recorded for entries is as follows:

PP - Best Lap - Total Time - Car - Tires - Drive - Power - Weight - Rabbit - Rabbit Total Time

Link to the GTP Stock Seasonal Spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kDEW2OWUxHfq9PTR4G4-HKXl3veLfq0sXhvwiPYMUGw/

Notes about the Spreadsheet:
Tabs will generally be ordered with the newest seasonal events at the left.
Gold times are ordered based first on PP (lowest PP at the top), and then total time.
Bronze and Silver times are ordered based solely on total time (fastest time at the top): these entries will be grayed out.
If you are comfortable with entering your info please do so.
Only create one entry per car for your best total time for that car.
To add an empty line: right click (PC) on a gray row number box and select add a row above or below.
If you make a mistake or change something you did not mean to change hit undo once or a few times.

Beginner at High Speed Ring:

373PP – 1:26.898 – 7:42.464 – Toyota 2000GT ’67 – CS – FR – 153hp – 1120kg – Elise 111R ’04 – 7:40.791
413PP – 1:21.471 – 7:11.348 – Ferrari Dino 246 GT ’71 – SH – MR – 191hp – 1080kg – V8S ’91 – 7:12.494

Intermediate at Deep Forest:

497PP – 1:18.382 – 7:07.382 – Lotus Elise Race Car ’96 – RH – MR – 173hp – 645kg – DELTA S4 Rally Car ’85 – 7:08.036

Another race where the Ferrari GTO ’62 would be great if it didn’t have CS tires. :(

Expert at Nurburgring:

536PP – 7:55.644 – 8:53:144 – Shelby Cobra 427 ’66 – SH – FR – 484hp – 1068kg – One-77 ’11 – 8:15.710
549PP – 7:34.507 – 8:31.940 – Ferrari 430 Scuderia ’07 – SH – MR – 502hp – 1350kg – ZZII ’00 – 8:04.156

My Cobra tops out too often at 250 kmph, unlike my tuned Cobra. :grumpy: This one will be more of a challenge given that most of the AI cars are above 550PP and have SS tires. Will have to practice.

Nothing special to mention, this might change for the Expert Level Challenge @ Nürburgring. );

Beginner at High Speed Ring:

383PP – 1:27.370 – 7:44.436 – Hyundai Tiburon GT '01 – CS – FF – 172hp – 1340kg – NSX Type S '99 – +0.080

The Hyundai is usually a safe bet for these beginner races and won it easily at the first attempt. I tried it with a few lower PP classics with no success but to be honest this is a pretty boring track in a slow car.

Intermediate at Deep Forest:

474PP – 1:19.651 – 7:11.643 – Citroen Xasra Rally car '99 – RH – FF – 294hp – 960kg – RSC Rally Raid Car – +0.582

I bought the Xsara last week for the Matterhorn, inspired by WhoosierGirl's success with it. I haven't quite got gold at the Matterhorn but it's an easy winner here.

Expert at Nurburgring:

This is going to be a toughie.

Expert Level Non Racing Car Challenge @ Nürburgring Nordschleife

541PP – 7:27.815 – 8:25.348 – Lexus LFA '10 – SH – FR – 552hp – 1480kg – 2.68 – Ford GT '05 – 8:12.709

This is a more than tough one for sure.
If you find yourself in a starting grid without a Buick Special in front consider a restart. Corvette C 06 an Ford GT as rabbits are impossible to reach for they run 8:12 laps and the fastet i could match was a 8:22.

I think i'm done since i wasted naerly an hour with the fricking intro before the race starts.

Intermediate at Deep Forest:

473PP – 1:23.642 – 7:34.328 – Lancia Stratos Rally Car '77 – RH – MR – 272hp – 880kg – 205 Turbo 16 Evo2 '86 – +0.529

Trying to control the Ferrari-powered roller-skate is always a laugh.

486PP – 1:20.303 – 7:15.251 – Alfa Romeo TZ2 '65 – RH – FR – 168hp – 620kg – 3.69 – Lancia Delta S4 RC '85 – +0.422

It's not often we get an event where this adorable little car is competitive so I had to give it a go.

I've tested a bunch of cars all getting me to 8:4x total time , too many mistakes.

542PP - Buick Special - SS - FR - 576bhp - 1364kg

That Expert race is a pain. Managed to win first in the expert race yesterday in the LFA with what might have been a slightly dirty race, then I forgot to record the replay before starting another attempt. :ouch: Tried again today with the Ferrari but always a few seconds behind. The Rabbit speeds up when you are doing well and slows down when you are doing terrible. I wish they didn't know how well you were doing.

Edit:
Whoohoo! I did it finally after returning to the LFA which is indeed faster than the Ferrari: I passed the SRT Viper on the long straight travelling 335 kmph. :D

547PP - 7:19.890 - 8:17.416 - Lexus LFA Nurburgring Package '12 - SH - FR - 562hp - 1480kg - SRT Viper SRT10 - 8:18.883.

After succeeding once, I tried again to make sure it was not a fluke.
Lineup:
Special [slows everyone else down]
Viper SRT10 [even once it passes the Special, it doesn't have the manoeuvrability for the Ring]
SLR McLaren ‘09 [both McLaren cars seem to never be able to pass the Special]
Murcielago [Fastest car, but slowed down by the Special and McLaren]
Ford GT ‘05 [very fast, but same issues as Murcielago]

I found that the lineup really needs to have cars in the right places for extra drafting speed in the straights.

I've forgotten about the expert/Easy races... High Speed Ring -
Nurby? I ran the Toyota FT-1

This actually was as much a hoot as usual as the FT-1 is such a clown car on the (On or off) brakes. But it is fast once you caress the brakes like a lover (Some say, she loves me walking over her with my Alpinestar Racing booties.)

The down side was it doesn't quite have the top speed... So a nice lead onto the Dottinger Hohe... has you driving in reverse as they pass you. Still they mucked about in the Tiergarten Chicane bit letting my ABS=0 with a FT=1 skills enable a very smokey sideways, just about in control, pass into the final corner and the win!

----

Deep Forest Raceway
Love the track.
The AI is a bit up and down. A slow car (400pp) can get a nice race with the lower order cars.
But most fun was with a Lancia Stratos - No driver aids... and the car is like a crazy puppy eager to turn a normally mundane corner into a world of opposite lock and frantic throttle work.

Most excellent... It isn't easy - but very do-able once you open up your "big bag of car control" -
More smile per mile.
And it has a Cool Italian Horn "Peep peep - Ciao Baby!"

Also had a dash in the Lexus IS200 Bat racer - Race Hards I think - very planted - easy win - Paid for the car.
MX5 Racer - Easy win.
Gazoo GT86 (N24 #166) Sport tyres - No win, but a nice balance of low speed/ low grip
Honda S2000LM - Very easy win - Great car.

sorry for lack of numbers - been away from the matrix for a while now.

I had a go at Deep Forrest in the 250 GTO '62 on CS but the best I could get was 4th place and about 20s down. Given another 20 laps I might have caught up. Those that seem to know what they're talking about reckon that CS or even CM are the nearest to what this car would have had at the time, and it certainly drives great stock, but when everyone else is on RH it's not really a fair contest. SH might even things up enough though.

@StirlingMoose : I do not get the reason for the CS tires on the Ferrari 250 GTO '62. It doesn't make sense to me within the context of other GT6 cars. I do not know much about real-world tires or racing in the sixties but I did investigate a little through wikipedia. They only produced a limited number of 250 GTOs because it was designed for racing. In fact Ferrari even broke regulations that wanted 100 total production cars by skipping numbers in the chassis serials in order to make it look like they had produced 100 even though they didn't even reach 50 in 1962. The Shelby Cobra was a car raced in the same GT series; the Shelby Daytona Coupe was built specifically to take on the Ferrari 250 GTO. Snake vs the Stallion. The 250 GTO raced in 1962, 63, and 64. Clearly they must have had racing tires in those years and the 250 GT was built for racing so would have used good tires or as good as the competition. The Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe '64 has RH. The 427 Cobra '66 we have in GT6 has SH tires because it is the production version intended for the road: hence the horn and license plates. The Alfa Romeo comes with RH tires and it has no plates or horn: i.e. it is a racing car. The Ferrari 250 GTO '62 however does have a horn and plates, even though GT6 classifies it as a racing car and there are roll bars. Perhaps it is a strange GT6 combination of road and racing car? The Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta '61 is an ordinary road car and comes with CS tires. I would expect the 62 race car should have had better tires than a 61 road car. Maybe Ferrari couldn't afford better tires? :P Until someone can explain otherwise, I suspect CS is an error.

Edit: Oh...and after having received 10 million in Expert Race winnings on the Ring, I treated myself to the Alfa Romeo. :sly:

The 250 GTO tyres are not the only odd tires in the game. Other I can think off : Opera Performance S2000 SH tyres , Ferrari Dino 246 GT '71 SH tyres (thus so damn good stock car) , VW Golf Touring car CS tyres.

I can't say for sure if the case with 250 GTO is same as Diablo GT2 which started in the game as road car and got reclassified later.

Oh right , Skyline LM Road Going Version CS tyres.

EDIT:

Beginner Level Non-Race Car Challenge: High Speed Ring - 450 PP - SH

342P - 7:52.890 - Mazda 110S (L10A) '67 - CS - FR - 109bhp - 940kg vs Mazda éfini RX-7 Type RZ (FD) '96 +0.007 sec behind , TVR V8S '91 0.097 sec behind , bl 1:29.069

The éfini started in 3rd place and was the rabbit to pass on last lap. Once I passed it the TVR joined it and almost got past me before last corner. On the last straith I blocked the TVR but left the ëfini free which almost cost me the win.

Whether it's realistic or not CS tyres on the 250 GTO are definitely an anomaly. Of course it doesn't matter except for those of us who want to drive it stock. Maybe a special dispensation is in order for cars with obviously the wrong tyres. It's a shame that such a fantastic car is virtually useless for these challenges.

Enjoy the Alfa.

Edit - I've been messing about with different tyres on the 250 GTO ( I think I'm just putting off having another go at the ring ) and SM is the lowest I can manage with a clean race. Even making full use of the generous track boundaries I could only get 2nd place on SH. It's not the braking and cornering that cause the problems it's mainly getting the power down on harder tyres.

Why in Expert Level Non-Race Car Challenge: Nurburgring Nordschleife - 550 PP to result in finish table is added about 52 seconds?

Why in Expert Level Non-Race Car Challenge: Nurburgring Nordschleife - 550 PP to result in finish table is added about 52 seconds?

The total time includes the intro before the start of the lap. I don't know why though.

This car/track combo is too addictive for me. The fine line between getting it right, and getting it horribly out of shape and wrestling the car away from a crash - which tends to result in a drastic fattening of a lap time. Strange but I really enjoy it when the car is just over the edge and you have to almost go into Matrix bullet time as you catch a slide - And the replays! A fast lap will look almost mundane... a bad lap time is a tell tale of some flamboyant driving fro me... or else a crash!
The Lancia Delta is a nice formation finish type of car... you can reel it in but it steps up its pace for the last couple of laps so you can have a close quarter side by side stuff.

bit late, but 240,000 credits almost paid for these rally cars. (The Escort made a crisp 40,000 profit... sweet stacks!)

(And you have about 40 minutes to try them yourself!)

Finally got my win at the ring in the LFA nurb but boy was it a struggle. I seemed to spend more time reloading for a decent grid and watching the parade than driving. It was bumper cars in the end but a win is a win and I wasn't in the mood to be gentlemanly. Gaining on a pack of four cars, with the Special still in front, on the final straight I was still behind on the re-entry, saw my gap, went for it only to find it suddenly taken up by a rapidly decelerating Buick. But I kept my nerve, gave him a tremendous boot up the rear, nipped past him on the grass, cleanly passed the next one, side-swiped a Ford GT on the penultimate corner and did the same to the leading SLR on the final bend. Just glad to get it over with.
