This is a thread series for the seasonal time trials that focuses on completing the challenges (i.e. beating the gold target times) with stock versions of the cars. This means that instead of maximizing your PP with upgrades and focusing on getting the fastest laps on the in-game leaderboard, you are attempting to complete the challenges with the bare minimum amount of 'car' and money-spent as is possible.

With the new more open ended format means that part of the challenge will be finding a stock car that has the lowest PP or lowest price depending on your view. It is also difficult to predict which types of tires a car will come with before purchasing.

Warning: Some of these challenges are getting to be extreme and should be approached with caution! :banghead:

In order to participate your car must be stock.

1) A stock car is essentially any car as it is when purchased from the dealership or won as a prize: it will have had no modifications, added parts, or adjustments done that affect how the car performs.
2) No oil changes are permitted: if you have had an oil change you must wait until the effects of the HP boost have been removed by driving over 300 km.
3) You must use the original tire type that came with the car, unless dirt or snow tires are required.
4) No changes to any “Car Settings” are permitted: they must ALL be left at their default values. [Note: cars that come with Fully Customizable Suspension that were purchased or won prior to patch 1.11 must have the suspension settings restored to default in order to be updated with the new stock suspension settings.]
5) No SRF or ASM is permitted: other “Driver Assists” are permitted.

Basically, the ONLY changes you may make to a car include: painting the car and changing a car’s racing number. Any other changes means your car is not stock.

Stock A-Spec Seasonals #12:

Beginner Level Non-Race Car Challenge: Suzuka East - 450 PP - SH
Intermediate Level Non-Race Car Challenge: Daytona Road Course - 500 PP - SS
Expert Level Race Car Challenge: Silverstone Grand Prix - 600 PP - RH

The Stock Seasonal Spreadsheet:

A few members have begun a leaderboard of sorts where individuals will be able to input their info into a public document. This is not so much a competition as a way to compare all sorts of data. At this point the data that is recorded for entries is as follows:

PP - Best Lap - Total Time - Car - Tires - Drive - Power - Weight - Rabbit - Rabbit Total Time

Link to the GTP Stock Seasonal Spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kDEW2OWUxHfq9PTR4G4-HKXl3veLfq0sXhvwiPYMUGw/

Notes about the Spreadsheet:
Tabs will generally be ordered with the newest seasonal events at the left.
Gold times are ordered based first on PP (lowest PP at the top), and then total time.
Bronze and Silver times are ordered based solely on total time (fastest time at the top): these entries will be grayed out.
If you are comfortable with entering your info please do so.
Only create one entry per car for your best total time for that car.
To add an empty line: right click (PC) on a gray row number box and select add a row above or below.
If you make a mistake or change something you did not mean to change hit undo once or a few times.

After my total lack of desire to do the last time trials, I was surprised how keen I was to run a 450pp car at East short track at Hugenhotz's 60's Mini ribbon of fun - Suzuka East.

450pp at 鈴鹿東
59.137 5m24.058 - Mazda RX7 RS-R (97) - SH - FR - ???bhp - ?? Torques - ???kg

Had a Focus RS claim second place a very distant 4.15 seconds behind. (5m28.2) I got into the lead just before the end of the second lap - but the RX7 gives you a knife edge thrill, as the back end will want to power slide if you give it the beans and a handful of steering lock - Well not quite "knife edge" as it is very controllable, but fun.
This race seems to have a lot of room for drivers to run low PP cars - I am tempted to run the 3000GT VR4 - 450pp but with Comfort tyres and a lot of weight to really push the friction circle of those poor tyres!

------------
500pp at Daytona Rolex

Had a peek at my cars and thought I'd take the Maserati for a run. Love the engine note, maybe the long wheelbase would let it run smooth in the fast stuff and maybe the weight of the Leather seats and the espresso machine and other essential bits of Italian kit wouldn't be such an issue...

489pp -2m06.022 - 11m01.940 - Maserati GranTurismo S - SH - FR - 439bhp - 50 torques - 1780kg - 4.05 pow/weight)

The LFA was second 0.274 down
The V16T was third 0.742down

Managed to haul in the leaders, the traffic was a bit of an issue, but I found the right place to brake first time out - which make a change as I usually muff a few of the corners by being too greedy into a brake zone. Got the lead at the end of lap 4 into the Bus Stop. This was really the end of the race as the last lap was more akin to a touring car race, the Lexus and the Cizeta were all over me and we were side by side, swapping places trading paint for the final three and a bit miles. I was a bit nervous I would get mugged on the final bit of banking, but the LFA and the V16T didn't close the gap as much as I expected.

Silvastun - Race cars.

I hoped to take an Amuse S2000GT Turbo... but it wasn't eligible.
I ended up running my Tuscan Speed 6 Touring Car, first.

579pp 2m01.8?? - 10m55.1 (3rd) Tuscan Speed 6 Touring Car - RH -FR - 495bhp - 53 torques - 885kg - 1.78 pow/weight

Car was a bit eager and pointy at times - took me a while to dial in... and look at that best lap... plenty more dialing to go!
1st place - GTR Concept LM - 10m37.1
2nd place - Ford GT Spec II Test car - 10m48.1

I closed in the gap, but 18 seconds seems a lot to make up - but I am desperately slow in places - So a driver with a lower blood pH could well do this.

---
Second crack I used a Honda HSV 010
I also had to muck about with the set up... not sure if this was a previous tinkering, but I set it to default (Suspension was different.)
Compared to the Tuscan it felt much more grippy and sounded faster... but ultimate best lap went to the TVR after one round, but after 5 laps the Honda just edged it.

???pp - 2m01.928 - 10m53.6?? (2nd) Honda HSV-010- RH - FR - ??? bhp - ?? Torques - ???? kg -

This felt much faster - much more planted in corners - Maybe this car has a thicker default setting for Aero so is slower on the straights? But I was a country mile behind the winner...

Not much trouble with these two old beauties. Well I say old. One of them is my age and the other is a mere youngster.

Edit -
500PP at Daytona Road Course:

493PP – 2:01.844 – 10:44.265 – Lotus Esprit Sport 350 '00 – SH – MR – 353hp – 1300kg – 430 Scuderia ’07 – + 0.438

It's a scampering puppy of a car. Great fun.

Love the car - so much I only just bought it today! Felt pretty wallowy at times, back end willing to step out and not exactly settled in the longer corners.

So close that when we got to the podium the guest of honour got confused and handed me the silver trophy, but the scoreboard doesn't lie. They were queuing up behind me on the final section but I stuck to the inside line and they seemed reluctant to go round the outside. The Gallardo and the Scud both made a desperate lunge at the line for the photo-finish and another three cars crossed the line in less than a second.
I've been trying to keep the spreadsheet updated and will do more later. What's happened to MisterWeary?

Not a bad car I got a bit held up in traffic being polite into Maggots. Interesting how they put the car number on the vents after the front wheel - Feel sorry for the "Sticker dude" who has to put them on between races.

11m05.035 - NOMAD Diablo GT1
11m10.996 - Camaro SS Touring Car

Car was very ponderous in corners after the lighter cars I've ran. Just no real bite or turning ability - it does have some poke on the straights.

----

Despite the results quite enjoyable watching these pricey cars drain my hard earned credit total!
Wonder what PP score the Lister should really have as 580 seems pretty steep for how much weight it is lugging about and how little downforce it generates compared to the SuperGT cars.

10m46.4 - Ford GT LM Spec II
10m55.9 - Viper GTS-R

The car was very good fun to drive, so much turn in grip the issue I had with the car was getting on the power too eagerly on the slower corner exits. At the end of the race I was only 10 seconds down

============================

592pp - 2m01.309 - 10m53.103 (3rd) -BMW Z4 GT3 - 508bhp - 53torques - 1190kg FR RH (2.34)

10m46.0 - Ford GT LM Spec II
10m52.6 - Viper GTS-R

Rinse and repeat. Getting more confident in places but pushing a bit harder also sets up odd slides and mistakes.

====================

592pp - 2m01.002 - 10m49.826 (2nd) -BMW Z4 GT3 - 508bhp - 53torques - 1190kg FR RH (2.34)

10m45.6 - Ford GT LM Spec II
10m53.9 - Viper GTS-R

I was quite happy with this third run. under 4 seconds down... over 5 laps that isn't too much to ask?

I then tuned the car. (!!?!)
The tune was "just" suspension and gearbox and Aero and brakes (That all!) No power boosts (Or added ballast!) - Mostly to see what difference there would be.

TUNED TIME - Not STOCK settings

10m44.5 - Ford GT LM Spec II
10m47.6 - Viper GTS-R

Oddly on the end of the 4th lap the Ford GTLM went off at Vale... but his overall lap time was good, I got the lead just before Copse. No blocking but 0.6 seconds behind seems a bit closer than I expected.

Not sure what helped the most - the trick gearbox must have gained 5 seconds - but then lost me a second with extra wheelspin out of corners I never used to suffer from and also just run out of revs on the Hanger Straight - even more if I got a great Chapel exit and a slipstream.
Suspension - softer springs and more ride height made the car less nervous - not that I had a problem with that.
Differential... dark magic -

Set up is on GTP - I think it may be the only Z4 GT1 set up (It isn't mine!)
85/85 (RH) - 13/16 (SR)

0.1°/0.6° - 0.00° /0.17° (Wheels - Camber and Toe)
5/3 brakes
8/11/7 diff
390/735 aero

gears were squished - 3.370 1st gear, 1.241 6th gear and a final gear of 3.708 -

But now I have a gold prize, I can run this event for fun.

And see how fast I can go when I revert to default settings. Place your bets now!

You've been busy, @Ryk. The race car events don't hold much interest for me, running stock at least, mainly because the stock settings are so rubbish on most of them. I notice the camber is set to zero, or thereabouts, and I suspect that might make the biggest difference, and maybe the lsd. It would be interesting to just dial out the camber and see how much it helps. I might give it a go at some point.

I've been mostly wasting my time trying to do Daytona in the RS200 at 432PP. I got the win once but only by weaving about to keep them behind me at the end. It seems no matter how well (or badly) I drive I can get to the front but then they come back with a vengeance. There's probably a perfect race in there but I haven't found it despite a great deal of trying.

Not that busy - I just recognised that a slowpoke AI car gave me a chance of a Stock win - which I didn't get - But Now I have the win, I can just run the race and ignore any Silly Rabbit type (Toyota LM car? Really?)

I've always wanted to run a "properly tuned" racer and an off the shelf default stock one, just to see what gains you get or if a "tuned car" is only fast because they (They = The tuner ricer type.) throw horsepower at the car.

Part of me hopes when I return to stock the confidence the tuned settings had will trick my race driver brain into going silly fast into places I was previously a bit -girly- about. - And it is nice to shake things up - I know the biggest factor for me for lap times is the "driver bit" - Just the first few corners at Silvy; Sometimes I fly through nearly 120mph other times I wimp out brake down to 90 or so... which has to add quite a lot of blubber to my already porky lap times.

Daytona Rolex - Normally this level of car is great (Very TVR friendly area) but I really don't enjoy the track much.

鈴鹿東 - this is a chance to run some seriously out gunned cars--- well very low PP and get some traffic to make things more interesting... and comfort tyres on Suzuka's twisty bits. But I had to get that can of Orange Paint first.

I just ran a quick test. Bought myself a Z4 (It's a mean looking beast) and ran four races, one stock, two with zero camber and then the last one back to stock to eliminate the effect of getting used to the car, and I was on average a second and a half quicker with no camber. That meant the difference between 4th and 2nd place against an F1. The difference was subtle but I noticed it most coming out of the Loop and Club where it was easier to get the power down and get a good fast exit. This is why I'm not keen on running stock racing cars (apart from my beloved 330 P4), they are seriously under-performing, and racing cars are meant to be tuned. I mean even in stock form they're tuned, just very badly.

Surprisingly I've had more fun at Daytona than Suzuka this time round. Daytona has its dull oval sections, I amuse myself by waving to the chaps sat at the top of the banking, but it has some good twisty bits and the first corner is a doosie. Trying to slow down from 150 and turn in at the same time always has me flailing about. Try it in an E Type.

Had a very good time here, stepping down the tyres on the original NSX. Not sure why Comfort Mediums performed so well compared to the others. Only the first time is Stock - but Sports tyres feel very sticky. NSX is a great car to balance in the corners - Engine is helpful.

Nice race, a Z28 Camaro was in the lead... not sure if it is top speed limited - I made my over take at the end of lap 4... it promptly retook the lead down the pit straight... I was planning to hold the outside line and loop round the outside (Piquet style) into the 60m radius 1st turn... but the Chevy moved over to take the racing line, so I bombed to the inside and made a (Mansell style) pass up the inside.
Lots of fun -

Ran twice, nice car for an all wheel drive. Gearbox is very tall (Green Bay Packers Lineman kind of tall) - 2nd to 3rd kept catching me out onto the Wellington Straight - maybe I should be in 3rd gear earlier? But you will struggle to get into top gear at the end of Hanger...

That pretty much agrees with difference I found. I think we should be running these races with 0 camber until PD sort it out. I've updated the spreadsheet. Lots of good results there. I assume you did 6 minutes in the Tigra, not 8. I think it's all up to date now apart from all Ryk's valiant near-misses.
I've given up trying to do Daytona in the RS200. I just cannot get far enough ahead that they don't get me on the final straight.
