This is a thread series for the seasonal time trials that focuses on completing the challenges (i.e. beating the gold target times) with stock versions of the cars. This means that instead of maximizing your PP with upgrades and focusing on getting the fastest laps on the in-game leaderboard, you are attempting to complete the challenges with the bare minimum amount of 'car' and money-spent as is possible.

With the new more open ended format means that part of the challenge will be finding a stock car that has the lowest PP or lowest price depending on your view. It is also difficult to predict which types of tires a car will come with before purchasing.

Warning: Some of these challenges are getting to be extreme and should be approached with caution! :banghead:

In order to participate your car must be stock.
1) A stock car is essentially any car as it is when purchased from the dealership or won as a prize: it will have had no modifications, added parts, or adjustments done that affect how the car performs.
2) No oil changes are permitted: if you have had an oil change you must wait until the effects of the HP boost have been removed by driving over 300 km.
3) You must use the original tire type that came with the car, unless dirt or snow tires are required.
4) No changes to any “Car Settings” are permitted: they must ALL be left at their default values. [Note: cars that come with Fully Customizable Suspension that were purchased or won prior to patch 1.11 must have the suspension settings restored to default in order to be updated with the new stock suspension settings.]
5) No SRF or ASM is permitted: other “Driver Assists” are permitted.

Basically, the ONLY changes you may make to a car include: painting the car and changing a car’s racing number. Any other changes means your car is not stock.

Stock A-Spec Seasonals #31:

Beginners' Level Non-Racing Car Challenge: SS Route 5 Clubman - 450 PP - SH
Intermediate Level Non-Racing Car Challenge: Indianapolis Road Course - 500 PP - SH
Expert Level Race Car Challenge: Sierra - 700 PP - RH

The Stock Seasonal Spreadsheet:

A few members have begun a leaderboard of sorts where individuals will be able to input their info into a public document. This is not so much a competition as a way to compare all sorts of data. At this point the data that is recorded for entries is as follows:

PP - Best Lap - Total Time - Car - Tires - Drive - Power - Weight - Rabbit - Rabbit Total Time

Link to the GTP Stock Seasonal Spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kDEW2OWUxHfq9PTR4G4-HKXl3veLfq0sXhvwiPYMUGw/

Notes about the Spreadsheet:
Tabs will generally be ordered with the newest seasonal events at the left.
Gold times are ordered based first on PP (lowest PP at the top), and then total time.
Bronze and Silver times are ordered based solely on total time (fastest time at the top): these entries will be grayed out.
If you are comfortable with entering your info please do so.
Only create one entry per car for your best total time for that car.
To add an empty line: right click (PC) on a gray row number box and select add a row above or below.
If you make a mistake or change something you did not mean to change hit undo once or a few times.

My results so far with a wheel and an automatic transmission:

450PP at SS Route 5 Clubman:
413PP
- 1:02.767 - 3:36.632 - Ferrari Dino 246 GT '71 - SH - MR - 191hp - 1080kg - Elise 111R '04 - 3:38.126

500PP at Indianapolis Road Course:
413PP
- 1:50.807 - 6:05.080 - Ferrari Dino 246 GT '71 - SH - MR - 191hp - 1080kg - RGT '00 - 6:05.179

700PP at Sierra:

People on the other thread seem to be having so much trouble here with tuned cars so I doubt many will get this one stock. Took me a while to get it with a tuned LM55 and it was only when the AI jumped into the rails.

- 1:06.264 - 3:45.007 - Mazda SAVANNA RX7 (FC) '90 - CS - FR - 209hp - 1230kg - NSX '95 - 3:45.692

Nearly tough, but I think the AI eased off near the end, Or maybe lack of traffic made my lap times faster? I didn't expect a win after 1 lap, but closed in on the Honda despite my negative waves.

500PP at Indianapolis Road Course:
495PP
- 1:47.501 - 5:52.814 - TVR Griffith '94 - SH - FR - 340hp - 1060kg - Countach 25th Anniversary - 5m56.105

Far too much car, But a V8 Roadster at the Brickyard - seemed the logical thing to do.

Zahara - I had a pootle in a 2000 JGTC car - I don't think 8m46.8 is going to win many prizes! when the AI is dropping 7m38 laps! and they get a 28 seconds lead.

Although I find this car hard to like I thought it would probably be only one lower than the Dino capable of winning at Indy. There's nothing wrong with the car except it's got too much grip for the amount of power, which makes it a bit dull. It starts to come to life when you push it hard but then its tendency to understeer becomes worse. Still, mustn't complain. It did the job.
The races - Indy was not easy. Tried a few grids before finding the beatable Countach rabbit and then had about four goes to actually beat him. Had to go very defensive, hugging the inside line all the way round the final banked section. Once he realised he wasn't going to pass me on the inside he'd lost momentum and didn't have enough to make the pass on the outside of the final turn.
I thought Route 5 was going to be a formality after Indy but not so. I hadn't noticed it was Clubman so spent the first lap wondering where I was and gradually recognizing bits of track, but backwards. I'd got the hang of it by the second attempt but it was still close. This is unusually tough for a beginner race. Less than 50PP down and on the max tyres would normally be too easy to bother with.

Zahara - They are definitely having a laugh. I managed to overtake a tricycle in a stock 2J and discovered that, unlike cars with proper downforce, once you've left the ground you just keep on flying... ...for a very long way. In the Judd Pescarolo thingy I overtook two cars but then crashed a lot.

- 1:05.108 - 3:40.001 - VW Scirocco R '10 - CS - FF - 252hp - 1410kg - .....

Just ran these horror shows for the weekly duel thing on the main forum - This car is a fast pup.

- 1:06.248 - 3:43.444 - Dodge SRT4 '0? - CS - FF - 212hp - 1350kg - ...

The Dodge was much worse for understeer - not as fast as the VeeDubya, Oddly I was behind a S2000 driven by A.Honda who happened to be driving a Honda...

...

I also tried the Fisker Karma at Indy but the car was a shocker (I didn't mean that as a pun, but I'll keep it in) so very slow.

- ??? - 3:47.963 - Hyundai Tiburon GT '01 - CS - FF - 172hp - 1340kg - Impreza Sedan WRX STi - 3:48.527

Here's car which doesn't get much love, it even got a mention in a "worst cars in the game" thread (mind you so did the 250 GT and Stratos), but I like it. It drives well, looks ok, sounds nice and at this PP and FF it's probably only going to get beaten by a Civic.

500PP at Indianapolis Road Course:
Onto comforts now
429PP - ??? - 6:12.642 - Mazda RX-8 Type S '07 - CS - FR - 248hp - 1310kg - M4 Coupe - 6:13.094

Tough race against Ackerman in his M4. The car is just great. I looked down at the tyre candles twice to make sure it really was on CS. Three races - First didn't catch him, second caught him at the penultimate turn, took a dive and got the lead but gave him a fairly hefty sideswipe in the process, third caught him in the same spot and got through with the gentlest of contact. I would have got away with in Formula 1. Then it's inside line all the way.

424PP - 1:05.324 - 6:12.716 - Lotus Elise 111S '03 - CS - MR - 153hp - 806kg - Viper GTS '99 - 6:12.733

Actually a bit easier than to win than in the Mazda but it seemed like harder work. I also had a go in the Elise 72 which was just too slow. All the time made up in the twists was lost in the flat-out sections.
