Stock F40 - adjusting braking is a nightmare...

OK so the car is stock because I wanted to keep it as original as possible and do not want to start adding things.

Only upgrade installed is the transmission because F40 has an issue with long gearing.

I also kept the sports hard tyres before being tempted to install the soft ones.

I am trying to get the feel of the car which is great when turning but this requires also a successful braking and this is where I am so frustrated with it...

No matter how I adjust the brakes (front/rear biased, balanced, low or high brake sensitivity) I always get sudden oversteer when braking hard (ABS is OFF) and the braking distance is also too long compared with modern Ferraris or even other more real life cars.

Any clues please without having to add parts from the tuning shop?? I really want to keep this car as close as possible to its original form.

Well first of all you compare it with other MODERN Ferrari's. They were build between 1987 to 1992 so that's not a really good comparison. The long gears is not really an issue, but representation of the truth.

besides that, i have no answer for your braking question :P I have no idea why it does that, I experienced it with many other (older) cars.

Personally, I have no issues with the F40's brakes. You just have to remember modulate the braking power, which is easy if you have a wheel and pedals. Also, it is a supercar from era before the nannies got in the way, neutering everything, so it will kill you if your talents aren't up to the task of driving this car.

I have the G25 wheel and I am more than gentle with the brakes with this car but still I get easy lock-ups and spins with it...

What happens is:
- I start braking early (much earlier than other cars),
- midway the braking distance I see no good braking progress, so I
- squeeze the brake pedal just a bit more and then...
- boom.... snap oversteer and off the track...

What is your braking settings for the F40?

I'll try it with sports soft soon but wanted to learn it with the stock hard tyres first.

Hello, i had Problems with the stock F40 i bought befor i saw that you can win the car.

Breaking was difficult, in Rome, the first breaking zone when driving around the Kolosseum.

Car left the line while breaking enormous. So i didnt touch the car until today - is it possible that they fix the problem?

Race mid and soft is a fun, some slight leaving the line when breaking, but a lot better as i have it in my mind.

Drove the Car today for more than an hour, its a different car for me.....

No parts buyed, stock F40.

Best Regards

Jochen

I have a fully modded F40 and NOTHING I did helped the car's braking performance, which is terrible. Out of the hundred or so cars I've driven in the game, it's the only one which left me wishing that there was a brakes upgrade available in shop. Should it be able to out-brake an Enzo or a 458 Italia? No. Should it be able to stop faster and under more control than a 700hp Ford pickup truck with inferior rubber? Hell yes!

Well, I have my brake balance controller turned to zero and ABS are on 1. Sad fact is that obviously some cars are meant to use ABS.
