Stock Handling Drifting

Hi folks,

I'm wondering if anyone tries drifting their cars this way...

I do not modify the handling parts of the cars I drift to feel their stock handling, so to speak. In this, I mean I stick to whatever handling parts the car comes with. Some, have adjustable suspension, and some don't.

But I do upgrade the power and brakes to a level I'm comfortable with for the car. So, these are the only items I will upgrade :

Brakes
Intake
NA Tune Up
Port & Polish
Engine Balancing (though I never bother)
Racing Chip
Turbo Kit
Intercooler

Oh yeah, my tyre or choise are sims. So, this way, I can see the difference between the cars handling characteristics. And of course, ASM and TCS off.

I've tried quite a variety of cars, and the two I love most are the S15 and the Mugen S2000. I can't remember the BHP they have, but their balance is nearly perfect. The Impreza 22B is also a real blast as it comes with the VCD(?) rear-wheel bias. Can pull some really long drifts sideways with this one, and even some >90 degree drift angles and recover.

Ah yes, and I've also found the answer to a question I had before about how PD simulated the Skyline GT-R's. I am both happy and impressed that they did not forget the Skyline GT-R's ATTESA-ETS. So, it was a breeze getting them off the line even with TCS turned off. I also believe they do get rear-wheel biased under load as well. Good job to PD.

So basically you just don't modify the suspension or do weight reductions? I'll try to do that. Do you use Simulation Tires?

btw, Welcome to GTP kogashiwa_kai :)

All signs point to yes

1 thing I dont understad about GT3 is how they clame that the Sim tires are susposed to be more realistic to real life driving. well i can say they arnt, on a set of sport Yokohamas our GTI has like the handling of Slicks in the game, oh a BTW TCS on real cars sux bad (so does EDL (electronic diff lock), they are only good when your mom is driving and she hits a patch of ice going 25 down your street (dont ask me how i know this)

Exactly. I also do not modify the drivetrain, which includes all the good stuff from the clutch, flywheel, driveshaft, LSD, and gearbox. This way, I can see how the original setup works.

Thanks :) I've been here a little while, actually. Just haven't had time to check in too much.

I agree with you on the last part. But not about the sims, try a stock integra type R with sims, that will be close to the GTI or any FF car with less than 200 hp. Don't judge by they way the car "feels" but how the car moves and reacts. That’s how sim tires simulate real driving. I used to be able to power slide my big ass POS 1986 auto Toyota cresida with 147 hp, do you think that if it had similar traction to slicks that it could do the same? I doubt it. Then again, it didn’t have sport Yokohamas. Please, prove me wrong; I love to learn new things.

EDIT: Wait that EDL thing, electronic diff lock, doesn't that lock the diff when you are not turning to give you more traction? Wouldn’t that actually be very good? Compared to a regular slip diff? Probably not as good as an LSD though.

EDIT2: Or does is it a traction control device that actually stops the power from getting to the wheels?

EDL is volkswagen's way of giving people a cheep LSD (not the drug:rolleyes: ) what it does is under hard turning is basicly locks a wheel for a split second to help you turn, but when your on a real track it tends to push you out towds the gravel then help you turn. the one major thing that sux is you can turn off traction but you have to hack the ECU with a VAG-COM (daiginostic tool) and burn a code in to make it not work. although reverseible, it takes a while to do it and if you mess up, you car may never work again:(

edit: our car currently has 201hp to the wheels:D god i love turbos, if you have never expercend the sensation of a turbo spooling to full boost (1.1bar in our case) you are missing out

edit 2: our car is almost as responsive as a stock civic type R with sport tires (soo glad our tires didn't cost as much as they are in the game:D)but VW built the stock suspention on or car with WAY too much understeer, we are getting some Poly bushings for thee front to help correct this problem
