The rivalry that continues to this day! Mitsubishi did beat Subaru to the punch by a whole 2 years, but Subaru is undeniably the better car. It's just not obvious on paper.
Evo -
245 hp / 6,000 rpm
228 ft-lb / 3,000 rpm
1,240 kg / 427 pp
STi -
246 hp / 6,000 rpm
228 ft-lb / 4,000 rpm
1,230 kg / 430 pp
Evo has 1 less horse, SAME torque peaking 1,000 rpm sooner, and weighs 10kg more than the STi.
Funny then, that the STi is so much better. The proof is in the lap times.
Suzuka Circuit stock battle!
Evo - 2:31.977
STi - 2:26.705
The STi hits a maximum 132 mph on the straight, while the Evo only reaches 127.
Mitsubishi couldn't beat the first STI's lap time until the Evo IV GSR '96 according to my time trials.
PATHETIC!
