Stay safe, people. This draconian storm is already turning deadly and is heading our way, up here, to Canada, too. Worst time to travel - though 'tis the time when everybody probably is heading in or out from these areas due to the Holidays.

If you are in the area, please report in if possible, or you may check in here for reports from other members.

Once again, look after yourselves, and stay alert.

Agreed again. Sounds badass. And just in time for the world to end. =P

Going to let the pickup run, make sure it's all good incase I need to plow. Same deal with the snowblowers.

Yea. I guess whoever came up with names like Buttercup and Mayfly got fired. People need to give these storms scary names so people don't think it's just a little snow and end up getting killed by it.

Well that storm better bring some cooling winds down here in Florida.

I'm getting tired of the snowbirds getting cozy.

Interesting name. I think we got a little of this a week or so ago, it was like; No snow, No snow, No snow, 4 inches of the stuff.

You and me both, seeing way too many "northern" license plates lately. It was 30*F here last night, maybe that will drive them further south. :dopey:

I've seen plates from Illinois (Yeah Boi!), New York, Jersey, Ontario (too polite as drivers), Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Montana (wtf) and Hawaii (even more wtf) down here so far.

And 30 down at Arizona? Well that's quite cool, then again you're stuck in a desert.

In Florida the temperatures have been in the 70s and even the occasional 80 when the Sun is at its peak. Really warm winter so far.

The first major snowstorm of the season was responsible for a 25 car pile-up - (with some fatalities) (article). Here in Ohio (N.E. side) the news media is saying that we are under a Winter storm warning until Saturday evening. Expected snowfall could reach up to 6 inches accompanied with wind gusts up to 35 mph. Glad we are not getting the brunt of it. Well, hoping that we won't.

The snowblower is armed and ready.

I actually miss living in the Chicagoland area during the winter. I liked shoveling snow and using the build up as barriers for a snow ball fight.

Ice balls though gave one a penalty of 3 snow balls to the face.

FUUUU I think this storm is over Chicago now It's been raining all day.
Its suppose to snow all of tonight and tomorow too.
Cannot wait.

Dennisch
Now that is a name for a storm.

Sure beats the hell out of Bob, Fifi, and Georges.

Things weren't much better along I-75 northbound, south of Cincinnati; a truck jack-knifed and blocked the entire road. Vehicles backed up for 8-10 miles...good thing I was going the other way. Flurries blowing around all over the place (quite distracting, I might add).

Seems like a good excuse to sleep in tomorrow.

Someone who named it is an obvious Malfoy fangirl.

Or they named it after a 3000 year old constellation.

Oh my god. 6 inches of snow.

Whatever happed to the 8 feet + we used to get in NY?

Some sleety moisture, the kind of rain that's trying to get to freezing but just ends up as vaseline around everything, and high winds, but nothing much else around here. Slippery, though, and that probably makes driving a drifter's dream - highly dangerous on the highways. This kind of storm is actually more dangerous for driving, or basically travelling in any form - even walking, than otherwise life-threatening.
Talking about how the snowfalls are less - I heard some announcers on the radio joking about how anybody under ten in Toronto wouldn't really know what a snowstorm is like - and I have to agree - we really haven't had the kind of snowfall that used to bring out the army sometimes - some folks would have snow up to their gutters.
There were times I actually would start shoveling snow off the roof of my car and work my way down to find it.
In fact most older folk around here go: "Ho hum . . this aint nothing, you kids are spoiled. . ." etc, etc.
As I mentioned, though, driving is a whole other thing. Watch out for the other driver - the guy who thinks his SUV is a bobsled.

My neighbor's BMW - taken in a snowfall maybe a dozen years ago. That stuff on the windows is solid ice.

I remember bobsledding off my roof in upstate.

I've seen times where people rode snowmobiles over peoples roof's. 6 inches is absolutely nothing.

Not too bad in the end - though a few fatalities on the roads.
Thanks for the lookout - Stormwatch for this Storm is now closed.
