Would you want a story mode in GT7? (like NBA2K,Fifa or the rumored one in the next Forza?)

Last few days they've been rumors the next numbered iteration of Forza will most probably have a story mode (a writer has been working with Turn 10 in this regard), so I thought I'd ask here, would you want a story mode in GT7?
Technically, we have always had the semblance of a story.. it's been a rag to riches one, start off with a junk car, work our way to the top.

But having a fully fledged story is something no racing sim has had. How would you feel if GT7 also went this route?

edit: Heres the Resetera thread showing evidence the next Forza Motosport could have a cinematic story.

If PD wanted, it's easy.

AE86, GT86 owner>drifter or GT>Formula racer

EVO, STI owner>rally or TC racer

Muscle car, sports car owner>TC, GT> LMP racer

Sports car owner>GT, LMP, Formula racer

These are just a basic storylines.

Sooo, we're just going to ignore these?

As far as the question itself, Hell no. Pretty sure of all the things fans want, a full fledged story mode is not one of them and I sure as hell don't play Gran Turismo for the story.

I completely forgot about them, sorry.
But I think what Forza is going for is something akin to a live action movie thing.
I dont think it's the right choice in terms of resources as well. Like I said I wouldn't mind a text based thing if PD did go that route... but for the most part.. I just want everything Sport is missing from the old games.

Here’s the thing. Even in video games, like film, the storyline needs some decent scriptwriting, besides all the resources, to pull of a great storyline. To execute this in GT7 might sound ambitious, but it might be too time consuming.

Most folks are saying no and I’d agree. It’s just not appropriate for a GT game.

But here’s a thought. Would Ridge Racer Type 4 be considered the classic that it is without the storyline?

Actually, I wouldn't be against it. I am not thinking about big things: monolouges in little textes from important persons in the GT world (like in gt6) and a more emphesised importance of unlocking new leagues untill the final one which could be the "GT World tour". I think these things would place some milestones in the gameplay which would add more satisfaction and reference to the players.

If it would be optional to choose, I wouldn't mind, but thinking how much time PD needs to release a new game... even without it, I would say no :ill:

Instead of a story mode i'd like a deeper career with sponsors, engineers the like. My hot take is that with a career with bits of gt4, gt6 and grid they could accomplish a game that doesn't feel dull to grind and feels unique every time a race is replayed. If you think about it, it counts as a story mode :sly:

A full story associated with GT mode is not something which appeals to me either. The game is about the cars.

What I do think they could do is have a short introduction clip for all of the championships or even just the ones in the higher level leagues, that do not have to be watched, same as the ones for the Special Events in GT5 & 6 possibly narrated by Mr Brooks. And so creating a little bit of cinema for those who want it but can be ignored by those who don't care for it.

How is it not appropriate in this game when that's pretty much what's happening in real life, with game players? Heck it happened to the man who invented the GT franchise. Kaz. Lover of cars, street racer, real racer, wins Nurburgring.

Keiichi Tsuchiya and the Best Motoring International crew, are the real life Gran Turismo.

All that's missing are the details. We start with some Credits and a cheap car Or Buy a car for your garage. Get your racing licence. Enter races to earn credits and advance to higher tiers.

Why do people think PD would be wasting time? After 20 years, they've finally come around to outsourcing and eSports. They've already done the gamer to racer thing. Now they're using resources to host world events and helping manufacturers design/build cars.
If anything, they could probably be working on something like a story line, for a future game.

The story mode for GT is whatever you want it to be. That's why we loved the old games - you were able to make your own story. Having a so-called "story" mode is stupid if you don't have much control over it...

Indeed, especially given that now you can create an avatar in your own image.

It's not as bad of an idea as some people are making it out to be. Like others have said, Codemasters has toyed with a story mode in similar kinds of racing games and the execution was decent, so why can't PD have a go too? Besides, a Story Mode can easily exist alongside a traditional A-Spec Campaign.

I’d be open to some semblance of a story mode and I think it could be good. It wouldn’t even need to be complex. Lots of sports titles offer individual story modes that follow the player’s professional career. And most of these are pretty basic. I mean, Gran Turismo’s Simulation Mode has been kind of like that minus a narrative.

That's what I'm saying. 👍

Especially now that PDI are "asking" for help in essential areas of the game.
The "story" of taking an Italian car through the various "stages" in GT5 or 6(?), that would make for a nice story, if expounded.
