Strategy

Brought GT2 on eBay,but was either a bad version, since everything got erased all the time :/

brought a old GT2 version of a friend of me,costed me twice nothing, and i will get it next week.

Now my question is,can you guys give me a strategy, which cars I should buy, etc.

Ofcourse i know there are FAQ's,but reeding your posts, you are the pro's,and i just like to know things from pro's :dopey:

Damn right we're the pros! This is almost exactly what happened to me last year: I got my game from some loser on Amazon.com and it turned out to be a bad copy. Beware, tho...even newer versions of GT2 will erase your garage. The way to avoid this is to stay away from the machine tests, period. If you use them, don't save your game. There are ways to get around all this. I use the machine tests all the time, but i always make sure the records look the way they should and i also make sure my garage doesn't have any cars with 3,000 hp before i save. Once you see a car with too much power in your garage (more than it should have, for instance) you know you're about to be hit by the garage thief. But to be extra safe, don't use the tests!

Your first car depends on your skill level in the game. One of the best is the '93 Supra found in the Toyota used car lot. It only costs around 4,000 credits and you can smoke the Sunday Cup & Clubman and loads of other races with it with very few upgrades...if you can control it. You might need sport tires and/or suspension at first. If you have trouble with rear-drive cars, I'd recommend any used Mitsubishi FTO. This is a sporty front-drive vehicle...extremely easy to drive. With simple engine and exhaust upgrades, it gets the power necessary to match its awesome handling.

There are a number of FAQ's on the web, so thanks for coming here first!

The path straight to too much money, my version:
1) Use your slightly tuned '93 Supra to win the '80s Sports Car Cup Race 5.
2) Take the Skyline Silhouette Foumula you win from that and win the Unisia GT-R GT '99 from the Grand Touring Car Trophy (race 3).
3) Use the Unisia to win Gran Turismo All-Stars Race 3 at Red Rock Valley.
4) Sell your new TVR Speed 12

Repeat steps 3&4 whenever you feel like your bank account isn't big enough.
If that isn't easy enough, you can trade in 4 Speed 12s for a Suzuki Escudo. With that, you can win GT all-stars #3 in just under five minutes if you're good. That's 110,000c a minute! (IIRC).

I wouldn't worry about ruining the game with this, money is pretty easy to come by in GT2, this is just faster.
Whatever you decide to do with the game, enjoy! The sheer number of cars in this game is staggering.

I tested every car under 10,000 credits that was available in the first 9 days and recorded the time it took to do 2 laps around Red Rock Valley ...

Ten Best Stock
1) '91 Nissan Silvia K's
2) '90 Mazda RX-7 Infini III
3) '91 Nissan Pulsar GTi-R
4) '93 Toyota Supra Turbo
5) '91 Nissan Skyline GTS-t Type M
6) '94 Honda Prelude VTEC
7) '93 Honda Civic Si
8) '91 Nissan Skyline GTS25 Type S
9) '95 Honda del Sol SiR
10) '94 Mitsubishi FTO GR

Ten Best For 10,000 credits (i.e. 5000cr car + 5000cr in upgrades or 10000cr car + 0cr upgrades)
1) '93 Toyota Supra Turbo
2) '91 Nissan Silvia K's
3) '94 Honda Prelude VTEC
4) '91 Nissan Pulsar GTi-R
5) '90 Mazda RX-7 Infini III
6) '91 Nissan Skyline GTS-t Type M
7) '91 Nissan Silvia Q's
8) '93 Honda Civic Sedan
9) '91 Nissan Skyline GTS25 Type S
10) '91 Honda Civic CRX Si

Ten Best Fully Modified
1) '90 Mazda RX-7 Infini III
2) '91 Nissan Silvia K's
3) '91 Nissan Pulsar GTi-R
4) '89 Mazda Protege Sedan
5) '91 Nissan Skyline GTS-t Type M
6) '93 Toyota Supra Turbo
7) '93 Mazda Miata
8) '91 Nissan Silvia Q's
9) '91 Toyota Celica GT-Four RC
10) '93 Honda Civic Si

If you're a beginner, I recommend the Civic 3Door Si ... It handles extremely well and is very easy to control ... The only problem is the lack of power (154 hp stock)

If you're more advanced, the Silvia K's and RX-7 are awesome ... Very nimble, very good power-to-weight ratios, and, if you can control the oversteer, you can get through corners very quickly ... Of course, if you get a little too bent, even if you don't spin out, you lose a lot of speed and time, so take that into consideration ...

As mentioned above, the Supra is a good choice as well ... the fastest for 10,000 credits by a couple seconds, mostly because of it's low cost (4,225cr), so you can throw 5,700cr at it right at the start ... Not quite enough for new tires, but enough for a stage 1 turbo kit (4,500cr) and a racing flywheel (1,000cr) ... I recommend winning the first race (which is extremely easy even in stock form) and getting sports tires ... It'll help immensely with handling and it has more than ample power stock ...

Probably the biggest disappoint you'll find are the Toyota Celica GT-Fours ... They corner poorly without suspension upgrades, they're expensive to buy, and they're expensive to upgrade ...

Of course, the best option is winning all golds in the licenses ...

No offense, but this is what 99% of GT2 FAQ's look like. Any of the Gran Turismo games are so much more meaningful when taken at a slower pace, exploring the massive number of cars instead of just trying to beat the game as quickly as possible in an Esc

You don't need to buy a car. You can get all Golds on the B and A license like I did. B license gets you a Spoon S2000 which is quite fair to use.

Well, you chopped off the last paragraph where I sort of addressed that. :P
Having a lot of money isn't beating the game, beating the game is getting all gold licences and winning all the races. Depending on your preference, having fun with the game may be something else entirely. Personally, I like buying tons of cars and seeing what I can do with them. This takes money!
Notice I didn't say "Win every single race with the R30 Skyline, Unisia Skyline, and Escudo", that'd be stupid (IMO). My strategy (which probably does bear a striking resemblance to ever other money strategy, yes) just golds 3 races and takes the issue of money out of the game almost entirely. That's how I like to play it, anyone who doesn't is of course free to do otherwise, but then they don't need to hear anything from me. :)

Here's my strategy for 100% complete + 60 golds in 226 days ...

1) Win all Golds in licenses saving only after getting all golds in a license ...
2) Use the cars won from the licenses to win as many races as possible ...
3) Use the cars won from the races to win as many races possible ...

This takes you through pretty much everything but the Pikes Peak rally races (which I usually buy an Escudo for just so I don't have to "cheat"), the manufacturer races, and the K cup races ...

4) Buy an Escudo for the Pikes Peak rally races and immediately sell it after those two races. Otherwise the game is no fun ... Sure, it's a 1,500,000 credit loss, but you should have millions of credits at this point ...
5) Calculate the prices of cars that need to be bought, the value of the cars you own/will buy, and the remaining money leftover (which will be used for upgrades)
6) Designate a set amount of cash for upgrades for each car needed to be bought so as to remain competitive in the remaining races ... Last thing you want is to have to "cheat" because you're using a stock car in a manufacturer race and you get thrown Test Track or Super Speedway where you can't compete ...
7) Race the remaining races ...

*By cheat, I mean turning off the game without saving so it doesn't count as a loss and take up a day ...

Fair enough. Yeah, I was using you as an example which wasn't fair to you. Sorry.

I've discovered and read thru well over 100 GT websites by now and even tho many of them look pretty, theres nothing unique about them. Rarely will you find a blog/walkthru like mine or Sportwagon's which takes you thru a different path...highligting the fun and frustration you'll have with various cars in the game.]

I forgot about the Nissan Silvia Q and K's...hands down the best rear-drive cars for a beginner in my op. They are both very controllable, and super-cheap. You'll need more power for the Q car, though.

Fortunately, the Q's is cheap to buy (3,225 for the '88 and 3,967 for the '91), so you can buy a stage 1 NA/Turbo, CPU, and stage 1 reduction for either one right at the start ... Of course, the lack of a turbo option for the '88 kills its potential ... I don't see why you can't turbo the CA18DE considering thee the CA18DET is in the '88 K's :P

I will use ePSXe on my computer,so I hope there will be less glitches in the game/saves.

And I will try to buy all the cars I want, and I know now how to gain a large amount of money. Since I am using ePSXe,I will make a site where I will store pictures on 💡

No problem, I didn't take it personally. Looks like we are in agreement on what's a pointless way to go through GT.

Here is a post by WRX over at GranTurismoForum.com that perfectly illuminates what I was trying to say. He posted this comment about a month after the game came out in the United States in response to someone who was..well, just read it:

Posts: 127 Play the game properly!!!

About 25% of all posts on this board are questions like:
"What car should I buy?"
"Should I buy this car?"
"What is the best car for winning this race?"
These questions seem to be written by people who only want to try out the best cars, and want to finish the game as quickly as possible.
But GT2 is so much more!!
3/4 of the fun is actually the choice of cars, being able to experiment, compare, and try out all the different cars.

I understand questions like:
"What is the best car to start with?", because beginners are absolutely overwhelmed by the sheer number of cars.
But the best car for which race?
Find out for yourself!!! It's much more fun!!!

I don't want to play it that way, mate!

I don't care if i even finish it,most of the fun is winning cars, upgrading them, and try them.
Maybe It will cost me more than 2000 days to finish the game,SO WHAT?

WHO CARES? I DON'T!

GT2 works now,I only need to have the right plugin, which is just a matter of time!

:sly:

:grumpy: 👎 👎

In the same way I got gold at my uncles PSX,i get barely a 0.44 at the first license lesson :grumpy:

Is Any ePSXe user so kind,to give me their savefile?

please :)

is there also a way to use some codes to get the licenses? Since I can't get them, due to some weirdness (no,not my driving capabilities),when i have the medals,I can go play. So,can someone please give me their ePSXe savegame where GT2 is in? Please :ill:

are you using an Emulator?! cool. watch out tho...there are three versions.

hope you can pass the licence tests...I have to use a time freeze code on the game shark...i'm still a couple hundredths over the max when I don't spin out the RWD's

nevermind,got B and A,and now doing IC.

Yep,I am using ePSXe 1.6.0,and I can play it perfectly!

If needed,I can write how I did it,and with which dll files i made it work.

Got B+A+IC+IB now :sly:

Ooookay...

Alonsomania seem to be one of those people who does everything the long hard way. a "purist" that bashes anyone that uses Physical cheats or cheat devices. Mabey...

if they're making a PS emulator, now...how big is the file, is it regular, or available online? I still have a copy of the last edition of Bleem on a spare HD, and I liked the way GT2 came up on the Monitor.

Actually I think you got us backwards. I'm the one who's into taking the long route, AM seems like he's looking for quick ¢a$h...

If you mean cheating,no I don't need it. Reinstalled some things, and works great now,but maybe a bit faster than real, but who cares.

About playing GT2,yes,i did it the hard way. Costed me 3 hours to get ePSXe right, but then the result is amazing!

My sister erased the memory cars ( :( )
so i had to restart it.

At A-4 i think,i got 0:21.201,where 0:21.200 was needed.
Didn't reached it :P

sounds familliar...I rarely get a bronze...the closest I get to gold is the rally tests...i'm ALWAYS 3 seconds under...mabey I should get some practice in and enter the WRC?

A-4 sucks. So do bratty sisters for that matter!

To me, cheating means using a Shark code to earn money. There's a difference there.

dude, I only use that and my varient on "pothole's headlights code"...i wanted to play with the cars so I could find faves to go back to
