First off - I have no idea what a suitable name for this thread is, so if you have a better one, please let it be known.

Ok, I'm posting this as a bit of an interest check.
I was playing here on the DFP tonight fiddling with settings trying to get some donuts turned out. And then this idea kinda hit me.

I'm sure that everyone just plays around like this on their own time just as I was doing, but you rarely see clips of it. Well why is that? it is fun and entertaining, and anyone with two thumbs can do it.

this clip shows the kind of thing I'm talking about, if you don't follow: Killing Time
(I was having no luck getting good quality with reasonable compression on this clip - sorry for the slight blocking)
Seoul is a good spot for this kinda stuff. Wide open, and the grandstands give kind of a stadium like atmosphere to it. Gymkhana is kinda 👎 b/c you can't view or save your replays.

So after talking a bit with Swift about where the best spot to place this thread might be, I wanted to open it up here as a dumping ground for little clips like that one. I'll use this thread to guage what kind of response there might be if we tried to wind up some sort of competition like this to either parallel the GTPDC's, or to actually serve as the GTPDC every now and then.

It just struck me as a fun idea. I know the GTPDC's might be a little frustrating for some people and that limits the number of entrants, but this kinda thing would just be you playing around and showing it to the rest of us. You don't have to have perfect technique or anything like that, no real criteria to try and satisfy with your run. Pretty lighthearted and easygoing - just put on the best show that you can and be creative.

If we did want to get some sort of competition going for this stuff I guess we'd specify an isolated location for the demo to take place on, and set a time limit for your clip (1 minute seems pretty reasonable to me).

thoughts, suggestions, and clips welcome.

Nice!! I mean, nice donuts and burnouts and stuff. But the quality sucked. Yeah, as you mentioned, I know why :) I guess this is just a "fun" thread for these kinds of killing time moments eh? I'll post a vid Monday night or something off my Digi. Camera :)

heyyy was that squarepusher?

Those were better donuts than I could do. I think it's be neat though to see maybe 2 cars doing that at once or something, because once you've seen a video with someone trying donuts, the next ones aren't going to be very different.

heyyy was that squarepusher?

yup

I'm still trying to fix up the quality in that other clip.
I changed some settings and got this falken whipping around even better . I actually got it to go around 3 times without stretching the radius of the donut at hong kong. Maybe I'll record that later.

I dunno, just curious to see what other people do. I think it could be fun to try and out do each other a little bit.

Lo!

Great idea. The thread title should be 'Killing time, the ultra non-violent way to waste gynormous amounts of time, whilst having a blast!'

or...

Leave it as is. I like watching replays like that. It shows the enjoyment of a game that you might have already beaten, but still can't get enough of.

Thats the spirit, no technique stuff just playin;)
I love it, and actually I think someone should make a gymkhana vid, not saved but just captured off tv.

💡 Hey thats my type of recording. No j/k I cant do that cause it's alot of trouble with setting the camera up and making it completely dark and all so well...
Someone should though:)

Edit: ROFL that was hilarious. Looked so stupid at first but half way u began to really make some nice donuts, more than I have ever done (excluding large "gymkhana" ones).

Nice music too, kinda relaxing playing around.

hehe, ya
I have another one with that car coming. I actually did get it to do some proper donuts.

Infineon Sports Car Course and Fuji 2005 aren't bad spots too play either. Curbing might get in the way a little bit on those tracks, but they have some big wide open spots too.

Boundry Layer, what program are you using to edit the videos. I tried several programs but they can't add the background music in without deleting the engine and tire sound. Thanks.
