In the following: A bit of entertaining waste of time for me. Maybe a bit of entertainment for you, as this subforum is way too inactive anyway and i'll decorate my posts with some pics.

Street Legal Diary

My objective: To beat Gran Turismo 2 without using any [R] car if not totally necessary (manufacturer events).

Thought behind: I realized that it's quite an easy task to win most of the games challenges as soon as you have a car to beat some ~350HP sportsters and win the Daishin Silvia GT. Which takes much fun off the whole thing.

Day 0

I just got the sack and have been thrown out of my apartment. End of the story.

Just kidding. More of an opportunity to start from scratch. My parents always told me to do something that ensures me money and wealth. Well, that didn't work quite as good as i expected. Time to do what i always wanted to and see if i can make a living off it. Car racing always fascinated me. Such precisely working technical wonders. The laws of physics in action, not just in books. Time to get on some wheels!

Day 1

A freshman at the tracks. Great feeling, although i'm kind of nervous about what's coming. I surely can't just get a car and hit the road. Someone told me about getting licenses which allow me to race in various competitions and classes. I can live with that. Let's see what they've got for me.

Fun and easy success ahead! I'll report back as soon as i have time.

Day 4

Wow! The last days were packed with action. The license tests were really impressive, and i even got to drive some awesome sports cars like the 3000GT or the Supra. I managed to get through quite well and earned myself three gold awards besides all the silver and bronze, and now i'm allowed to attend any class B or class A race as long as my car matches the criteria. Look here!

Stuffed with such enthusiasm and really seeing myself in a race car one day i scraped my last bucks together and bought a used Toyota Levin. Having 2.500 credits left, i installed a new flywheel and a computer chip tuning for the engine. After that it rolled at 129HP and 2040lbs. That doesn't sound fast but it turned out to be when i won my first race at Tahiti. Here's a snapshot one of the spectators made.

Looking good, huh? I'm sure it will become a sleeper-like compact rocket with some more tuning. Alright, i'm off for now, taking my car to the garage, seeing what i can improve with the money i won today. I'll report back as soon as there's something new.

Day 9

Woohoo, spontaneous vacation last week. Back from there and also with some work done, my beloved Levin now rawrs with 141HP and a beautiful muffler sound. I also threw some of the panels out, put a carbon prop shaft in and installed a sports brake kit. With such a nice ride it was an easy thing for me to get some more race trophies. Mainly money, but also a Mugen tuned Honda Beat. I'll see if i have any use for that bucket later. For now my plan is to complete the other licenses so that i don't have to worry about limited choice anymore. Wish me luck!

Day 22

You may call me insane, but since i came back from vacation i've been doing nothing but smoking tires and living off petrol and exhaust fumes. And it was well worth it. By now i'm in posession of all the licenses, including the three international ones. I heard some rumors about a Super License though. I'll see if there's any truth in it. Meanwhile, take a look at all the internation metal earned by pedal.

Winning races also means earning cash (besides all the bad Mugen mods i sold immediately after winning). Enough cash to affort going mad on the insides of my car, ripping everything out that it doesn't necessarily need. It now weights nothing more than 1876 lbs which is respectable in my eyes. Additional, i gave it a nice power injection by installing a turbocharger which boosts it to 187HP. Finally something i can call a track car. And because i love it so much, i spent the rest of the money on some new shoelaces for my baby. Isn't it beautiful?

Nice thread! Good to see GT2 isn't totally dead. :(

Thanks. I'm sure GT2 will always live on in our hearts (and in our Playstations if we have a rush of nostalgia :sly: ). Also:

Day 35
Oh man, i really managed to fill the whole month with nothing but chasing and getting chased. But it worked out to give me an income i can finally live off. I won some more races, namely most of the local GT series (i love Europe, by the way. The race track is not Rome's only beautiful thing.). I tuned my pocket rocket to the max and fly over the tarmac with 260HP now. Great feeling or greatest feeling to know that i accomplished that all by myself? I also invested some cash in an expanded garage with space for some more cars. Pic related, it's one of these.

Filled the second lot with a used, but stunning white on white 3000GT VR-4 Turbo. Already runs at 343HP with a few modifications, and it even mastered it's first race although it was a quite close call. But i'm proud of the car as well as myself.

Day 65

Sorry for the lack of recent updates but as i'm knee deep in studying and other stuff i only have time to post every now and then. in exchange my future updates will be even longer. A lot happened since the last time. I had to expand my garage once more to fit all the cars in. As i already told you i worked with a 3000GT to get some nice cash and rides. The car turned out to be a great choice and i was able to challenge and beat some pro racing classes which rewarded me with top notch racing cars like the Daishin Silvia or the Formula Skyline. But i hate using preoptimized cars and chose to sell them in order to invest in tuning upgrades and more cars. Here they are:

b8wqjb.jpg

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's the Peugeot 206 GTi in flying mode! I got it to race the FF challenge and a few of the national GT races. It's fulled tuned up by now and didn't even need any adjustment besides gear widening and very few softening the suspension.
The actual settings are: spring rate 5.5/5.0, damper bound 6/6, damper rebound 6/6 and gear auto setup 6. I just love how it handles now. In contradiction to the AE86 which tends to oversteer where you don't want it to and understeers when you'd need a little drifting the 206 stays exactly where i want it to even though it's got 372HP under the hood. Vmax is at 240kph which equals 150mph and yet it accelerates with ridiculous amounts of power. And i never thought such a small car could ever growl that deep.

ffb6kl.jpg

The other car i got is quite exotic if you consider that most people race nothing but Skylines and Evos. I present to you, the Venturi Atlantique 300 Bi-Turbo. It runs with full tuning except the turbo (brings it to 336HP) so that i can still race it in moderate HP races.
I'm not sure what i actually did in terms of setting customization but i know myself for mostly adjusting spring rate and dampers, so here are their numbers: spring rate: 5.5/5.5, damper bound 6/7 and damper rebound 6/7. I think i also widened the gear setup. Runs quite nice at the moment but i think it'll need some more work as soon as i power it up as the maximum is somewhere at 670HP which is quite a thing to handle properly.

The third car which is the only one i didn't bought and didn't race yet either is the (in my eyes) very beautiful and unique Lotus Europa. It came as a prize car but i couldn't get myself to sell it. I'll see if i have any use for it later or if it continues being nothing but decoration for my garage.

Last but not least just a quick snapshot of my game progress. I managed to completely beat all the national GT races, Sunday Cup, Clubman Cup, FF Challenge, K Cup, Compact Cup, Historic Cup, Wagon Cup and 80's Cup besides more races in other cups.

See you later, still got tires to abuse!

I like the Peugeot flying pic. That must be the 2nd curve at Trail Mountain, right? Yea, I love catching air there...you can still do it in GT4.

Thanks to you both and yes, it is. After all it's one of my favorite courses besides Special Route 5, Red Rock Valley and Tahiti Road. By the way, i don't have any official updates but i tuned up the Europa just for fun and giggles and somehow it handles like a giraffe on soap covered ice so i guess its destiny is to be a dust catcher in my garage.

Quick question: I tried it with Cerberas, Griffiths, Atlantiques, Rufs, 3000GTs, Espirits and what not and these guys always run away like time machines on meth. Is the R390 Road Ver the only car besides the GT-One Road Ver with which you're able to beat the GT All Stars Series without getting enslaved by racing modifications?

Put Super Soft tires on it and you'll never spin out again ;).

Off the top of my head, here are a few non-RM cars that can beat GT All Stars (don't forget to use SS tires as well):
-Jaguar XJ220 (Turbo Stage 4 - 945 HP)
-Jaguar XJR15 (slower than the above, but better handling)
-TVR Speed 12 (epic speed, but you need epic skills as well)
-Ford GT90 (same as Speed 12, but a bit slower)
-Ford GT40 (showroom version - fully tuned - 600+ HP)
-Wiegert Vector W8 (700+ HP, but only 4 gears lol)
-Lister Storm (fully tuned, 700+ HP as well)

Well that's it. I'm sure there are a few more, but those are the likely candidates. If you don't succeed at first, try and try again :). I used to be able beat the GT All Stars by using 300-400 HP cars (RMed though), so you'll crush the opposition with the cars I suggested above (and some practice) 👍.

Well, you say you were able to beat these guys with 400HP under your hood. So it shouldn't be impossible for me to beat them with anything faster.

Next Mission:

Get a Ruf BTR or RCT to win the All Stars. BTR stands for race car beater. RCT stands for race car trasher.

Lol.

I managed to beat the GT All Stars in a Vector M12, Vector W8, and maybe a couple others, but I think I had way more than 400 horses. I tried the All Stars in a Chrysler Phaeton, which has the power, but its handling is way too crappy.

Guess who did it!
Porsche RCT, fully upgraded and weight reduced. Softened the spring rate a bit and highered the camber. Everything else was fine enough to get my car in front of all the others. Best lap was 1:10:167 if i remember correctly and which i find quite good for a non-racing car.

Nice!

Forgot to say that the track was Red Rock Valley. Unfortunately i wasn't able to get any pictures of the races but i can tell you that it was five rounds of action.

@ tankuroded: Porsches are the most common exquisite sports cars to be seen around here in Germany, that's why i'm used to calling them that way.

I sometimes call them RUF/Porsches. I mean, if RUF wanted to truely distiguish themselves as seperate from Porsche, they should have created a much different body design. 💡 True, they build each of their own cars from the ground up, but they still look like Porsches!

Day 94

It's been a long time since i wrote something in my diary but i've just been too busy burning rubber on the tracks. I recently came to a point where i can attempt races for a good living and ever since things were going up straightly. My savings now allow me to use the term 'million' when speaking about my cash stacks, and i've been expanding my garage ever since. I even came to a state of buying and building up cars just for a certain race series or even a single race. So let me show you, not paying attention to all the useless [R] rides i earned and which do nothing but looking good in my car list, my newest projects and how they turned out:

1gnli1.jpg

Got the track 'Lowrider' by War or maybe the one by Cypress Hill in your head? This is the four wheeler to go with it. Sitting just above the ground it is a majesty of engineer work painted in metallic orange. And it moves forward just as good as it looks. Fully upgraded and with a max at some 175 mph it torques like the madman himself. Only thing those road yachts always lack of is the motivation to turn when they have to. So i maxed out the camber (10° is the way to go!), making it either going Tokyo Drift on its own tail or doing the brick trick. But i did manage to win the muscle car cup in that one though, so i'm happy with it and i'll surely keep it for the looks.

2e3ai4o.jpg

The other one is a wild Espirit, currently running at 535HP and full non-engine tuning, being built especially for the Pacific GT series. It can do some very nice moves but at the moment i still have to deal with some suspension problems as it tends to break out into twisting madness in banked turns or after jumps, such as the ones at Seattle Full Circuit. But i already dominated the series it was built for and i'm looking forward to fixing the problems, making it an even more powerful opponent to all the race-bodied performance cars.
That's it for now, except one thing i didn't remember when i started the diary. In many manufacturer events there are races specifically made for race cars so i'll have no choice but to use some in order to get 100% in game. So i changed the first post to "no [R] cars when not necessary". I'll put an eye on the endurance races in the next days and will report back later.

Thanks for your props, appreciate it! :)

Day 95

Race Report - 100 Miles of Seattle Endurance Race - Seattle Full Circuit - 40 Laps

Contestants:
Coastin' - Peugeot 206 S16
Computer - Plymouth Superbird
Computer - Shelby GT350
Computer - Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Coupe
Computer - Plymouth Barracuda
Computer - Dodge Viper GTS

Tire changes:
round 10 to round 11
round 20 to round 21
round 31 to round 32

Overall race time:
1:05:17,900

Average lap time:
~ 1:37,948

Hot lap time:
1:31,921

Starting a bit troubled, i first had to get comfortable with the new handling due to tire temperature and wear. While i was able to get to the 1st place in the first two turns, i lost it to the Camaro when spinning later in round 1. From then on everything went smooth. A few laps into the race i noticed that because of using an FF the front tires wore off quite fast so i scheduled tire changes every 10 laps except lap 40. Ten rounds of usage was the absolute maximum for a pair of tires as they turned orangeish yellow by that time. The rear tires made no trouble as they reached the optimal temperature after half a lap and never wore off, even multiple laps after changing. Even though the upper limit for attendants was 591HP, the opponents weren't much of a competition for my 372HP Peugeot. I lapped the first of the other cars in lap 10, and by the time i finished the fastest of them, the Camaro (the Viper seemed to like dancing in circles over the track), was 1 lap behind me while the slower ones even came to 4 laps difference. Apart from the things i already said, there's not much more to tell as the race went pretty good for me. After trying to race the Atlantique for a few laps and realizing that i somehow screwed up the setup and did a spin everything i got up the bumpy hill i tried the 206 and couldn't have been more satisfied with its track behaviour. It managed all the jumps with an amazing smoothness, and was literally impossible to make lose grip. Thank you, 206!
I hope you liked it and i'm looking forward to writing some more as soon as i do the other endurance races (from the next on: featuring lap time comparison graphs and other fancy scientific stuff).

Good writeup as usual. I personally would have inluded the Shelby Series 1 in the race to make it more challenging...looks like you walked over that crowd with the Pug. :indiff:

Oh, i didn't know the line-up changes everytime you start an endurance race. I really could have but afterwards i think of that race as a great warm up for the other longer ones. I also read your report on the GTX by now. I love how detailed it is and you can be sure about me checking out more of your (?) website. Big grin about the last line, too. Seems like we both listen to good tunes. :D
