Is it just me, or has anyone else experienced this?

Doing the Sarthe I race, leading by 3 laps in my Audi R8, after having driven quite a bit myself, the chassis started to give out, and became very hard to drive. So, I handed over to the AI perminantly, letting him cope with the twitchiness heading down the Mulsanne straight, and away I went to do my Saturday afternoon shopping. The b-spec was set to 2 with over take on, so I was confident of him maintaining his position....

Some hours later, I returned, switched on the tellie and promptly had a fit! I found my car, sitting in the gravel, at Arnage corner, having been there for at least 25 mins according to the laptime running down. It seems the AI gets confused, and does not realize that is must drive round that barrier that sticks out.

It is a reproducable problem too, send a car out on soft tyres, and deny him access to the pits when they get battered. Next, let your man crawl round the track on damaged rubber, on setting 1 or 2, until he gets to the end of the big straight, let him go round the sharp corner, then give it full bananas, level 5... unless he is fangio, he is likely to loose it at the right kink before Arnage, and be off in the gravel... and once in the kitty litter far enough, he will not come out.

Try it, and be aware of this when doing the 24 hrs races, it can really put a crimp on your day going off after 16 hours.

I'm mostly wondering Why the **** you'd send the Articfial Idiot out on supersofts - and then deny him access to the pit.. You're supposed to HELP the B-Spec driver - not make fun of him...

No quite! you are missing the point, thats how you reproduce the problem, not how I was doing the job! How do you think I lasted 16 hours! Thats just so you can see it for yourself, if you feel the need. To have made it 16 hours and then go off was really annoying, I have no idea what happened, and was not about to watch the reply to find out if I had been punted off, got it wrong overtaking or just drifted off the course...

That is not a "problem", as you so nicely put it - it's an idiotic thing to do... I'll like to see you handle an LM car on shot tires...

And you know the AI is dumber than a brick in the first place...

You are still missing the point... I have no idea why the B-spec ended up in the gravel, the tyres were in ok condition when I returned to the game after going out. The discription of using worn tyres and not going to the pits, is so you could experience the REAL problem, and that is that the AI can not recover the car if it gets too far into the sand trap coming up to Arnage.

All I wanted to do was find out if anyone else had ever had this happen to them, I give an example so that the situation maybe recreated by any sceptic who doubts the problem exisits... and you give me a slating.

It seems that the (AI) driver and flerbizky have a lot in common then. Cango has given an example of how to reproduce the problem he has had so you can see that the (AI) driver will be unable to exit the run off area once on it. This is the problem not going off in the first place. Now your problem is how your gonna eat that whole shoe.

Well cango_uk, I understand your post & symathize completely. As early as possible in the "Game" (obviously at the 25% point) I attempted one of the Le Sarth races w/B-Spec. I "thought" it would be a simple deal, long straights & relatively few corners per 8 Mile loop. MY B-Spec Moron could handle everthing well EXCEPT the sharp right at the end of the Mulsanne! :dunce: (Sorry I don't know the proper names of the corners) where he'd run off in the sand EVERY LAP regardless of the setting! I finally gave up & waited until I'd accumulated more B-Spec points elsewhere. Even in the second attempt (which I drove 10-15% of) he really never got "Up to Speed!":irked: I could manage 264 MPH thru the Mulsanne "Kink" but the fastest he ever went was 225 MPH!

I don't think I'll attempt your "Example" but I do hope my guy does better running the other Le Sarthe race & I'll keep a close eye on him for sure! 👍 ...O.G :D

the "b" spec driver has problems on ANY circuit with a tight turn with gravel/sand close by....

i just (finally) completed the F1 championship... those tracks i "b" specd that have lotsa sand/gravel (eg: Laguna Seca and Suzuka) she did terribly at!!

This is a good example of why I decided to do the game entirely in A-spec. The B-spec moron just can't be trusted! :dunce:

to prevent this problem again refresh the chassis before any long race. once you have a good lead and you know your b-spec pace is always faster no matter what setting, just leave it on 1 or 2. i used my r-8 for this race and nothing happened. maybe adjust your settings so it can handle decently no matter what the tire conditions are.

Guys, I appreciate the support ! However, it is not a question of the settings, how hard I was pushing the B-spec atrificial idiot or even the price of eggs! I know the B-spec goes off given any chance at all. I have since completed the 24 hrs race 1, with nothing changed except the chassis refreshed, and I drove a lot more of it this time, simple because I coul not trust the bloke, and made him drive at "2" all the way, and I did the sprinting every 3 stops, to get the distance boosted.

But answer me this, has your B-spec driver ever got stuck somewhere he could not recover from? The thing about going off at Arnage, is the way the barrier sticks out. It is there to save any poor driver and car, that my be safely negotiating the corner, while just behind, some chap has lost it, and it hurtling backwards towards them after getting the little right kink wrong. Due to the barriers position so close to the road after arnage corner, the AI thinks, " oh dear... i'm in the grave....hmmm what to do??....ROAD I want road, road is where I should be... shortest route is.... THERE !!! THAT BIT, REGARDSLESS OF CRASH BARRIER, I'M GOJNG THAT WAY!!!!!!!.... oh..... barrier in the way.... hmmm..... well I'll just back up and ram it again, I bet it will move.... " and so this went on for 12 heart breaking minutes, as my 15 minute lead evapurated to nothing, and then another car went by, and at that point I decided that nothing short of dynamite or a tractor was getting the b-spec bloke out. At 1 hr into it or so, I could have said fair one, lets go get some more exp. for the bloke, but come on, if I make it to 16 hrs in, I must have been doing something right?

Any how, since I have the B spec bloke up to 82 on the machine skill ( how high will that go? ) I am using him for testing setups, as I am not mister consitancy, and driving at "3", he is quite reliable. I am currently trying to work on some good subaru impreza settings for road usage. Will report my findings to the correct section...

I am soooooooo sorry! I have got the corners names mixed up... it was Indianapolis where I went off, not Arnage! Please see the attached piccie-map.
About 3 mm to the left of the "A" in Arnage, was where my 1st Le Mans 24hrs challenge came to an end.

THANX for the Map!!! My B-Spec Moron's endless expeditions into the Sahara were at Mulsanne Corner, though the longest he was ever "Stuck" was about 4 or 5 seconds...Luckily NOT Minutes! Thanx Again...O.G. :D

i remember in one of the championship series le mans was a race. I used b-spec and came back 10-15 minutes later expecting it to be over with a win. i come back and my car (i forgot hat it was) is stuck at a corner, i didnt look where it was. That cost me the series because i skipped a few races and that was the one putting me in the lead. o well.
