Stuck behind the guard rail on La Sarthe 24 hr in b-spec mode

Yesterday, I participated in the La Sarthe II 24 hr race driving the BMW V12 with the RSH (Racing Super Hard) tires. I started early in the day and switch to b-spec mode (triple time) when I got tired or have to leave. After leaving my house with the car in b-spec mode for several hours, I returned to discover that my 1 lap lead had disappeared and I was in 5th place, (4 laps down) stuck behind the guard rail of the left hand turn just before the short straight leading to the 90 degree right hander that I believe is called "Arnage". The car was just hitting the guard rail, backing up 30 feet or so and then hit the guard rail again as if the program thinks the car can drive right trough it. After pressing every possible button to no avail, I had to exit the race. I then went to the Grand Valley endurance race, and had no such issue in b-spec mode. I then went back
to La Sarthe II, and woke up this morning to find the same disaster in the same spot on the track. How can I get back to the pits to get back into A-spec mode?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What setting was Bob driving on? 1? 2? 3? 4? 5? :scared:

I don't think Bob can handle anything higher than 2 with any success over such a long period of time. Maybe even '1'.

I am not so sure I fully understood what is your main problem you need solution to... I understood the problem of the low speed which cost you so much time and 4 positions. But to exit the race means that you couldn't pit. Or else you could pit in and take the drive for the win. Did you turn down the pace to 1 or 2 approaching the pit entry?

I have had a similar problem with useless bob at Sarthe as well. My bob was driving a cobra during the 1000 miles events. He just over cooked it going in to the corner and end up right up against the rail, going back and forth for 30 minutes. As far as I know there is nothing you can do to get him out of it except exit the race.

I think it has to do with B-spec skill and the speed you have him on, also the power of the car.

The bug with B-spec bob and La Sarthe is a well known problem.. The easy "fix" is to just don't let him drive on that track :P Many pepole in the race reports section have had the same problem ;)

I don't think this is the standard Le Sarthe bug of going flat out down the staight and the turning sharp right in to the wall.

This is bob going way to fast in to one of the corners, getting stuck on the grass next to a wall, reversing up and then driving straight in to the same wall and then repeating the procedure untill you exit the race. Like what happend to me here

The only thing you can do, as you say, is drive the race yourself.

All the AI do that. Not every corner and every rail, but if they hit a rail a certain way, they won't be able to figure out how to remove themselves from it.

The AI script is set to back the car up a short distance, and try to turn towards the track. If they're completely perpendicular to the track (it seems) they'll back up, then steer straight because they can't figure out which direction (left or right) will get them back on the track the fastest. I've seen this happen at a number of tracks, and, unless another AI car smacks into Bob and changes the angle of the car, he'll be stuck there pretty much forever.

Its like niky says, most AI will do this if stuck in the wrong place, so I imagine our own B-spec Bob can get stuck forever as well.

I have a video of this at Suzuka where I gently (HA);) pushed my AI competitor into the rubber tire walls that are just past the final esses, and when I drove all the way around the track, the AI was still there. I checked the replay after the race and the AI was backing up and then driving right back into the tire wall. Over and over again.:lol:

If I can find it again, I will post it.

Your only hope is to have another car hit you. And get you un-stuck!:)

I think that this is also dependent upon how good your B-spec Bob is, so if you give him some more training he might stop doing this at this corner on La Sarthe. However, don't expect perfection with B-spec Bob. Even my 9273 Bob can't seem to remember to slow down at the Mulsanne corner, and drives into the sand nearly every lap and loses about 4 seconds.:grumpy: How well trained is your B-spec Bob?

Good luck,

The following is my example of the AI having trouble getting back on the track:

We are at mighty Suzuka in a 5 lap race.

The 1st place Minolta Toyota 88CV starts off strongly into the lead.:)

Some hot shoe in a FGT seems to provide encouragement and the Minolta Toyota goes looking for sand castles in the Suzuka esses! (could that have been GTsail?:guilty:)

The Minolta Toyota regains composure and gets back in the hunt.

On lap 2 the Minolta Toyota catches the pack.

The Minolta Toyota gives my FGT a shove going into the hairpin!:ouch:

The Minolta Toyota rides the Nissan R390 into the sand going thru the Spoon curve.:irked:

I don't take kindly to this type of driving so we do a little fender rubbing as we get to 130R, and I make a few gestures that can't be shown on this family friendly web site!;)

I allow the Minolta Toyota to take the lead going into the final esses and I politely eliminate the Toyota as future competition by shoving the Toyota into the tire barriers.:mischievous:

The Minota Toyota spends the next 6 minutes or so of the race trying to move the tire barriers to no avail as the rest of us continue our race.

You can see us drive by if you watch closely.

Serves him right, the naughty, pushy Toyota :). That's exactly the kind of thing that my bob-less was doing at Le Sarthe.

How about you stop the race, run the Nurburgring 24 hour with your BMW (in b-spec) to get a Formula 1 car. Then use your Formula to do the Le Mans races.

We here at GTPlanet don't condone overkill. I remember I did a report on an endurance race in GT3 and I got barely any replies.
